It seems like just yesterday that Bill Amend was beginning to make people laugh with the antics of the Fox clan. Now a Sunday-only strip, Wrapped-Up Foxtrot: A Treasury of the Final Daily Strips (Andrews McMeel Publishing, LLC, $16.99, June 2009) collects the last days of the daily along with the colorful Sunday comics from late 2006, when creator Bill Amend chose to cut back and give himself more time to pursue other creative opportunities.

This Foxtrot anthology continues the exploits of the Fox family, with Jason, Peter, Paige, and parents Roger and Andy (along with Quincy, of course). With Amend’s hilarious understanding of sibling rivalry and problems in parenting, fans will laugh along to the chaos involved in this three-child, one-iguana household. As with most siblings, the Fox kids are always working at new ways to get each other in trouble! Jason, the youngest of the bunch, is smart

beyond his years and enjoys annoying Paige continuously. Peter enjoys eating and procrastinating, and Paige is a boy-crazy “JJV” cheerleader who can’t hardly stand Jason. Andy, mother of the brood, is on a never-ending quest to get the family to eat tofu and eggplant while nurturing an addiction to Nintendogs. Roger is thrown in the mix, regularly getting fooled by the kids and tricked into internet scams.

Foxtrot won The Cartoonists Society’s prestigious Reuben Award in 2007. This popular strip currently appears in over 1,000 newspapers worldwide, and has spawned more than 21 best-selling book collections. Wrapped-Up Foxtrot: A Treasury of the Final Daily Strips is a must-have for readers to complete their Foxtrot libraries.

Akubra is Australian for Hat by Grenville TurnerAndrews McMeel Publishing, LLC • ISBN-13: 978-0-7407-8505-4 • Price: $12.99 ($15.99 Canada)

Paperback: 81/4 x 81/2, 96 pages • Publicity begins June 2009

Grenville Turner has worked behind the camera for more that thirty years and is widely regarded as one of Australia’s foremost photographers. He wears an Akubra Cattleman to protect him from the elements.

About the Author

Akubra is Australian for Hat

In 1988, photographer Grenville Turner set out on a journey show the unique connection between the Akubra hat and Australian people, as well as the beauty and harshness of the lands within. Akubra is Australian for Hat (Andrews McMeel, LLC, $12.99, June 2009) revisits and updates his travels with fresh, new imagery and ongoing history of Australia and its people.

Beginning at the Akubra factory and describing how the famous fur felt hats are made, Turner travels across the country, taking pictures of the many people who are devoted to their Akubras. The hat has practical significance as well as cultural: it shields the head and eyes from the elements, provides a drinking vessel for thirsty animals, and generally wearers describe feeling naked without their akubra. There are also many different styles (over 100, according to the web site), depending on the size of the brim, the “bash” (crease in the brim), and depth of the hat itself.

This book is a caring tribute to this Australian staple and the people who love it, providing: • Beautiful, full-color landscape pictures showing the amazingly different Australian climates. • Pictures and brief descriptions of the people who live and work in their Akubras. • Historical facts showing the importance of cowboys in Australia’s outback.

With Akubra is Australian for Hat, Grenville Turner shares the Australian experience, starting with a hat, and in the end, the stories and landscapes of his beloved home country.

FIREBLOCK™ Resin to be used in São Paulo Monorail Project KANSAS CITY, MO – July 16, 2012 – Bombardier Transportation, Brazil, has chosen the CCP Composites FIREBLOCK™ product to be used in the manufacture of parts for the new BOMBARDIER INNOVIA Monorail 300 system in São Paulo, Brazil. The monorail parts, which will be used in the wheel house areas on the 378 new monorail cars, will be manufactured in Quebec by FDC Composites and built by Bombardier Transportation. The new monorail vehicles will provide the transport capacity of a subway, but with less cost and faster implementation, helping to alleviate the often gridlocked traffic in the city. The new monorail system will also aid in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by providing an alternative form of transportation, taking more cars off the road and reducing the amount of travel time for the remaining vehicles. FIREBLOCK™ was selected for this project because of its ability to meet the testing standards for the industry. A winner of the 2011 JEC Innovation Award, FIREBLOCK™ is a series of non-halogenated, fire-retardant resins and gel coats being offered to the Composites Industry by CCP Composites. FIREBLOCK™ covers a complete range of composites gel coat and resin technologies for a variety of applications. Based on char-producing intumescent technology, these intumescent materials swell and produce an oxygen-blocking char layer on the composite surface when exposed to flame/heat. The low density and poor thermal conduction of the char layer protects the underlying body of material from damage with continued heat or flame exposure. For complete information (including industry standards and flammability test data), consult www.ccpcompositesus.com or call 800-821-3590. Contact CCP Composites today to see how FIREBLOCK™ can work for you. Quality products and superior customer service has made CCP Composites US, a subsidiary of CCP Composites, an international leader in the production and distribution of polyester gel coats, unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins.
