Demandfortechnicianswiththerightcredentialswillcontinuetoincreaseasmorehomesandbusinessessignupforfiber‐opticservicesincludinghighspeedInternet,video‐on‐demand,wirelessandInternet‐basedtelephoneservice,videoconferencing,electroniccommerce,andmore.BecomingaCFOTgivesyoutheopportunityforgreaterjobgrowth,increasedsalaries,andenhancedjobsecurity.Thiscoursehastwocomponents:atheorycomponentandahands‐oncomponent.Emphasisisplacedonthepracticalaspectsofworkingwithfiber‐opticcables,includingconnectorization,fusionsplicing,andtesting.

Certified Premises Cabling Technician (CPCT) NEW
ThisFOAcertificationisfordesigners,installers,andoperatorsofpremisescablingnetworks.Premisescablingreferstobuildingandcampuscablingthatisgenerallycustomer‐ownedandusedforlocal‐areanetworksofcomputers(LANs),securitysystems(CCTVandalarms),buildingmanagementsystems,distributedantennasystems(DASforcellularandWi‐Fi),andotherapplicationslikeindustrialsystems,electricaldistributionmanagementsystems,etc.FOACPCTcertificationincludescopperandfibercablingandwirelesssystems.ItisbasedonKSAsthatrequireaknowledgeofcablingandwirelesstechnologyandstandards,alongwithdemonstratedskillsintheinstallationofcopperandfibercablingsystemtosupportnetworks.CPCTcourseswillgenerallybe50%hands‐onlabsdevelopingtheskillsnecessaryforworkingwithpremisescablingsystems.

Thiscoursedevelopsthepracticalunderstandingandskillsrequiredtoproperlydesign,install,andmaintainfiber‐opticnetworksintelecommunications,broadband,andpremise(LAN)applications.Participantsstudythelatestfiber‐optictechnologyandequipmentinconjunctionwithappropriateterminology,operatingprocedures,andpolicies.Sessionsincorporateskillsetsonpreparing,installing,splicing,andconnectingopticalcables.Sessionsontestingandtroubleshootingopticalfibernetworksenableparticipantstoincreaseefficiency,reliability,andon‐the‐jobsafety,aswellastoreducecostanddowntime.ThiscourseprovidesthetheoryandknowledgebackgroundtoprepareparticipantstotaketheoptionalCertifiedFiberOpticTechnician(CFOT)examassanctionedbytheFiberOpticAssociation(FOA).
