2D View Directional Filters are inverted

Display an image and roam to a location where you can see strong vertical and horizontal edges (e.g. lots of buildings). Pan imagery is probably best to see the problem. On the Panchromatic tab select Filtering / Convolution filtering. Select 3x3 Horizontal and note the edge orientation shown in the preview thumbnail. Now click Apply and compare to the edge orientation in the 2D View. The Preview appears to be correct, whereas the 2D View has flipped the matrix and enhanced edges aligned Vertically. Select 1x5 Vertical Linear Smoothing and click Apply. Preview looks correct, but either the 2D View will go black, or IMAGINE will crash.

2D View The IMAGINE viewer crashes when rotating an image

The ERDAS IMAGINE viewer crashes when rotating an image if these exact steps are followed. 1) Start ERDAS IMAGINE 2) Open a viewer window if none is open 3) Load a specific IMG image 4) Wait until the image is fully drawn 5) Make the IMAGINE window full screen 6) Carefully press the Rotate Clockwise sub button (you get to this button by clicking the down arrow next to the Angle adjustment 'wheel', it is the first item of the sub menu) 7) Click the same Rotate Clockwise button 2 more times for a total of 3 times.

Create ECW Transparency makes last column transparent, column inside polygon

When producing an ECW Transparency with a shapefile or AOI, from time to time the last column of pixels is transparent when it should not be transparent. This worked correctly using IMAGINE Version 11.0.5.

Data Exchange

JP2 files from IMAGINE w/ embeded GeoTIFF tags only (no GML) not usable in ArcGIS

In the JPEG2000 Exporter, the GeoTIFF geographic coordinates are not written correctly to the JP2 file when the GML checkbox is OFF, and the GeoTIFF checkbox is ON. This leads to problems reading file coordinates in GDAL based software, such as ArcGIS.

9 1-8CKRWY IMAGINE Essentials

Data Exchange

JPEG2000 created in ERDAS IMAGINE 2013 v13.0.2 is shifted half a pixel from original GeoTIFF image

In the JPEG2000 Exporter, JP2 data with GML only is shifted half a pixel from the original GeoTIFF image. This is not seen when the customer includes GeoTIFF tags because the software are reading the GeoTIFF tags and not the GML tags. There is a need to reconcile and correct for any errors in the placement of geographic coordinates in the UL Pixel. GeoTIFF supports both RasterPixelIsArea (UL Corner of UL Pixel) and RasterPixelIsPoint (Center of UL Pixel) as a reference point for attaching geographic coordinates, while GML supports only Center of UL Pixel.

Data Exchange

ECW Export gives user the choice of output file formats

The ECW Exporter gives the user the choice of output file formats, when we only need one. The option should only be: ECW (*.ecw) Enhanced Compressed Wavelet (*.ecw)

11 1-8KG98P IMAGINE Essentials

Data Exchange

Export to ECW direct write/Save As, changes EPSG code from 2240 in input to 26967 in output

The EPSG code is not being passed correctly into the ECW v3 files when using functions using DirectWrite technology when using non-meter units. Because of this, the EPSG code can change when using Save As, ECW Export (DirectWrite), MosaicPro, Spatial Modeler (Legacy) and Spatial Modeler.

12 1-8NKOWJ IMAGINE Essentials

Data Exchange

Orient to Map to ECW does not resample edges correctly

Using the ECW Exporter, when the user is using the “Orient to Map” option, background pixels (also known as NODATA, rotation wedges, and rotation padding pixels) are being interpolated using bilinear interpolation. This creates an incorrect NODATA Mask (Opacity Layer).

13 1-8N6W88 IMAGINE Essentials

Data Exchange

TIFF export interface doesn't show Input file information correctly

Run Export to TIFF format. The Input File information such as Layers, Rows, and Columns are incorrect.

14 1-8NC02Y IMAGINE Essentials

Data Exchange

Opacity and NULL Blocks incorrect when ECW Exporting >8bit data

When ECW Exporting data values >8bit, the Opacity layer and NULL blocks are incorrect. This is clear when displaying the data with the background as non-black.

BIIF profile NITF imagery behaves poorly with new Contrast Galleries

Sample OpenSkies BIIF profile NITF data seems to cause the Contrast Galleries (Multispectral or Pan tab / Enhancement group / Adjust Radiometry pull-down) to constantly re-build statistics over and over again, pretty much locking up ERDAS IMAGINE. To replicate:

Select a 16-bit OSDDEF BIIF and open Fit to Frame.

Go to the Multispectral tab and pull-down the Adjust Radiometry button.

Note at lower right that stats are being rebuilt.

Move cursor over the menu of thumbnails - stats keep getting rebuilt and you pretty much can't do anything.

17 1-8RV280 IMAGINE Essentials

Data Exchange

BIIF profile NITF imagery cannot be Chipped or Exported

With sample OpenSkies BIIF profile NITF data Chipping or Exporting to NITF these BIIF images causes crashes. To replicate:

Display image in 2D View.

Go to the Multispectral (or Pan) tab

Select NITF Chip

Drag the box somewhere in the image

Specify an output NITF file name and click OK

You'll probably be prompted to Save - say Yes

IMAGINE stops working.

Restart IMAGINE

Go to the Manage Data tab

Select Export Format: NITF 2.1 from Imagery

Input file: one of the samples

Output: name-ntf

OK A "NITF Exporter (Advanced) has stopped working" message appears and you cannot proceed

Image Metadata / ImageInfo Image Width and Height cannot display wide pixel counts. The Width field can handle about 6 numbers wide before truncating numbers. The Height field can handle about 5 numbers wide before truncating numbers. The fields should be widened. Current users create images of 3200000 x 3500000. A customer can expect a 76577127row x 76577127col x 3band x8bit image with no NoData to be compressed at 20:1 and be less than the 16TB Microsoft file size limit. The ERDAS IMAGINE Width and Height fields should be wide enough for these numbers.

If you disable (turn visibility off for) one of the layers in an Inset View, then Send to JPG, Export to PowerPoint, etc; the layer with the visibility off still displays in the exported file. 1. Open IMAGINE, and Open a blank 2D Viewer 2. Open a calibrated image, 3. Open Bing Aerial Basemap 4. Right Click NITF, and Fit Layer to Window 5. Open a New Inset Viewer 6. Select the Basemap in the Inset View Tree within Contents Pane, then change Basemap to Roads. (This should change the Insets basemap type to Roads) 7. Select the NITF in the Inset View Tree within Contents Pane, then uncheck the calibrated image to turn visibility off. (You should now see your NITF on top Bing Aerial basemap, with an Inset of Bing Roads Basemap) 8. Go to Manage Data Tab, Office Tools, Send to JPG (specify file name, hit OK) (or Send to PPT) 9. Start the NDVI (or Indices) dialog. Load a Landsat 8 MSI image into the Input file chooser. Change Sensor to Landsat 8 MS. Note that no check mark is placed in the NIR column. This is because Landsat 8's NIR band is higher and narrower than previous Landsat sensors and the current ERDAS IMAGINE definitions of "NIR" are therefore missing it. A range of only 760 – 840 (which is what we currently use as NIR definition) seems low. The bottom end (760) seems about right, but at the top end most satellites seems to go into the 860 or even 900 range.
