The stage is set for a magical evening of Shakespeare
The costumes are ready, the stage is set, the dress
rehearsal is over and it is time for the show to begin!
There are still some tickets available for the LVC
performance of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Come
along to enjoy a magical evening of fairies, lovers,
comical actors, mistaken identity and a donkey’s
head, as people fall in and out of love with each other
and Titania, Puck, Bottom and Oberon get up to
mischief in the woods. You must buy your tickets on
sQuid by midnight on Thursday 10 March.
We are the champions!
The Year 9/10 boys rugby team won the
County Schools Championship after a
convincing victory over King’s School
Peterborough at Ely last month.
More sports news on page 3.
Four members of staff
and a number of LVC
parents completed
the Cambridge Half
Marathon last month.
Computing teacher
and keen runner Paul
Williams is training as a volunteer search
and rescue technician for CAMSAR, the
Nightingale House charity for this year.
Three of the runners were Nightingale
tutors so if you would like to sponsor
them, please donate at www.camsar.org.

As you can see from the contents
of this newsletter, it has been a
very busy and eventful month with
a huge number of trips, visits and
extra-curricular activities taking
place.
We really value the importance of
students receiving a broad and
balanced education, which is
reflected by the sheer number of
opportunities for enrichment and
personal development. It has been
great to witness events taking
place over the last few weeks
ranging from the inter-school
Maths fest to skiing in Austria and
a trip to the opera.
March is a particularly significant
month in the school calendar as it
features the annual school show.
This year’s modern interpretation
of A Midsummer Night’s Dream
promises to be a treat. At the time
of writing, there are tickets
available for all three nights to
purchase on sQuid so please do
come along to support the large
number of students involved.
Not only do events such as this
showcase talent and provide a
great sense of accomplishment for
those involved, they create a real
sense of camaraderie and
community spirit that fosters
strong relationships across the
school.
One of the messages that I shared
with students at the start of term
was to make the most of the
opportunities on offer at LVC, in
addition to their regular timetable.
We are fortunate to have a vast
array of clubs and activities taking
place on a daily basis. Having
students participate and play an
active role in the wider life of the
school is an important part of their
educational experience.
We want students to use their time
at LVC not only to secure a great
range of academic achievements,
but also to develop hobbies and
friendships, and to experience new
things. At the heart of this are
some key qualities that we want to
foster within our learners: their
sense of curiosity, independence
and responsibility.
These attributes, and others, are
currently being considered by the
Junior Leadership Team as part of a
redesign of the school’s code of
conduct to recognise the need to
develop and expect broader
learning behaviours from our
students, beyond basic discipline
expectations. These conversations
have been informed by
consultation with the staff,
students, parent body and
governors of LVC. The JLT will be in
touch in the next newsletter to give
you an update on their progress
with this.
I look forward to continuing to
meet more parents and members
of the community at events and
through your involvement in school
life. As always, please do get in
touch with my PA at
[email protected] if you
would like an appointment to
discuss your views and experiences
of LVC.

Following the recent Parent Forum, we thought it would be useful to remind you where to find the information regarding homework to support your children. All homework timetables can be found in the Curriculum section of the college website www.lvc.org on the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 pages. Please expect your children to have, on average, the following amounts of homework to complete:-
Years 7-8 45-90 mins in total per day
Year 9 1-2 hours in total per day
Years 10-11 1.5-2.5 hours in total per day
To work out which day your child’s homework is on, you will need to refer to their timetable, either in their planner or on Go4Schools, find the class name for each subject and look this up on the homework timetable. Please remember this may well be different in Week 1 and Week 2. If you have any concerns about homework please contact the subject
teacher. Tim Darby, Deputy Principal

Sports News
Around 40 students spent the February half-term on a ski trip to Austria.
As reported on the front page, the Year 9/10 boys rugby team (left) are county champions after a victory at Ely Rugby Club.
The Year 7/8 girls cricket team came 6th in the Lady Taverners Championship. The Year 9/10 tournament is on 21 March.
Four LVC students took part in the English Schools Cross Country Championships at Nottingham on Saturday 5 March. Well done to Lauren, Thomas, Niall and Cameron. Year 7 boys Jorge and Sebastian performed well in the East of England Championships last month, so the future of running at LVC is looking good.
Encouraging a love of reading at LVC
Following on from the Harry Potter Night in February, there has been a series of activities designed
to promote reading among students at LVC with the support of our librarian Ruth Keys.
Year 7 enjoyed a hilarious talk and book signing from Joe
Craig, author of the Jimmy Coates thriller series. The visit was
kindly sponsored by Linton Children’s Book Festival, which
takes place in the village from 14-22 May. Next up is Ross
Welford, author of ‘Time Travelling with a Hamster’, which
was Waterstones children’s book of the month in January.
Ross will speak to Year 7 and 8 students on Friday 11 March.
On World Book Day, 3 March, staff dressed up as their favourite book characters and students
could borrow ‘mystery books’ from the library to encourage them to read something different.

On Monday 22 February, LVC once again hosted the
Year 10 Further Maths Challenge for local schools.
Our two teams were the A team of Juliet, Naomi, Simon
and Reuben, and the B team of Elliot, Megan, Jack and
Ed.
The competition involved multiple food-themed rounds.
One round involved solving a jigsaw style problem using
pentominoes (like dominoes but with five squares) and
between each round there was a rather challenging
‘Countdown’ puzzle.
The B team achieved a certificate for the best
pentominoes round and the A team finished in fourth
place. Well done to all of our budding mathematicians!
The overall winners were Impington Village College.
Thank you to MEI (Mathematics in Education and
Industry) for funding a delicious half-time feast for the
participants. Will Scheilling, Head of Maths
Also last month, 100 students sat the UK Mathematics
Trust Intermediate Maths Challenge for Years 9-11.
There were some fantastic results including Torin
Reedman (best in school), Gold awards for Rollo and
Kaelie, and Silver awards for Ailsa, Emma, Olivia,
Simon, Elliot, Henry, James, Veronika, Nathan and
George. Congratulations to all of them.

And finally… Please join us for the next Parent Forum on Thursday 21 April at 6pm to share your views on home-school communication. This will be followed by an Open Evening with the Friends of LVC at 7pm. Please come along to find out about the work of the Friends and how you can be involved.
