For generations the goal of Chance has beenquite simple: putting the right tools into the handsof skilled crews. In pursuit of this objective, wehave worked closely with electric utilities to de-velop improved tools and techniques. A signifi-cant amount of time and dollars has been in-vested in developing and testing materials andtechniques to assure the safety of linemen. Thiseffort is reflected in the array of tools we offer forrubber gloves maintenance on systems in the15kV through 35kV voltage range. The equip-ment portrayed in this brochure is designed toenable crews to perform rubber glove mainte-nance efficiently and safely.

Chance has been a recognized pioneer in thedevelopment of safety-rated equipment. Our hotline expertise covers both distribution and EHVlevels. The largest selection of maintenancetools in the world bears the Chance label. Thisbroad offering of products is supported by anational team of demonstrators and engineers. In addition, an extensive library of video tapes, movies, and manuals is available to help train

line crews in the proper maintenance techniques.

    FLEXIBLE LINE HOSE

The new Chance flexible line hose offers distinctadvantages for rubber glove maintenance on volt-ages through 26.5 kV phase-to-phase. Extremeflexibility makes it easy to install on conductors andover clamps. It readily conforms to bends, sags, andtaps. Remains pliable in cold weather. Speciallydesigned lip opens easily during installation, then

closes tightly to secure hose to conductor. The hosecompletely surrounds the conductor to provide 360protection. Yet the hose readily slides into positionand is easy to remove. Chance flexible line hose islightweight up to 35% lighter than other brands and thus is easier to handle and store. Chanceflexible line hose will interlock with Chance rigidinsulator hoods and conductor covers. And, it willinterchange with other brands of line hose.

The formulation is a proprietary blend of thermo-plastic elastomer that provides superiorfunctionability. It meets all applicable industry speci-fications, including ASTM D 1050-85. Each sectionis tested for electrical integrity. The compound is

highly resistant to corona and ozone. Superior weath-ering and aging qualities have been proved in long-term U.V. tests. The entire unit is orange in color andhas excellent color retention. Surface can be main-tained with any suitable cleaner recommended bythe manufacturer, such as Chance Moisture Eater.

External surface of each end of the Plain-Style hose contains a series of integratedsaw tooth serrations designed to interlockwith the serrated interior surface of the Cou-pler-Style hose. During installation the Plain-Style hose is pushed firmly into the coupler.

PLAIN-STYLE HOSESerrations on each end of Plain-

Style hose interlock with serratedinterior of coupler to form a me-chanical and dielectric overlap.

Units are easily separated.Chance flexible line hose is offered instandard lengths of 3 ft., 412 ft. and 6 ft. Alllengths are available in 1", 114" and 112"inside diameters.

COUPLER-STYLE HOSEInside surface of coupler end isserrated to lock with the serratedend of Plain-Style hose.

Coupler is permanently bonded to straightsection with a unique heat-fusing process.

Flexible line hose interlockswith Chance rigid insulatorhoods and rigid conductorcovers as well as with otherbrands of line hose.

    RIGID COVERUPS

Chance provides a highly versatile systemfor protecting rubber glove maintenancecrews working on overhead systemsthrough 34.5kV. Our rigid coverups areeasily installed and removed with rubbergloves or hot sticks. There are rigid coverupsfor conductors, post- and pin-type insula-tors, crossarms, standoffs and metal arms, poles and poletops. Whether working oncrossarm or armless configurations, linecrews are protected by these durable, light-weight and highly visible coverups. Chancebright orange rigid covers are made of high

dielectric polyethylene or high impact ABSplastic and are thoroughly tested and elec-trically rated.

All rigid coverup units in the same voltage classhave interlocking capabilities.

Conductor covers and insulator hoodswith 25kV phase-to-phase rating willinterlock with flexible line hose.

    INSULATED PLATFORMS

The productivity or linemen performing rub-ber glove or hot stick maintenance is sub-

stantially increased with Chance insulatedplatforms. Superior insulating benefits areobtained by separating the working surfaceof the platform from the structural/electricalcomponents. Two sturdy Epoxiglas polesprovide a one-foot insulator space betweenplatform and the mounting bracket for 34.5kVphase-to-phase application. These insulatedEpoxiglas poles are manufactured to thesame standards as Chance Hot Line Toolsand thus meet ASTM F711 and OSHA Sub-part V, 1926.950 Table V-1 standards.

Two basic types of structural attachmentsare available: Adjustable-Type units, for use

when frequent platform relocation is not re-quired, and Pivot-Type units, which allow theplatform to be swiveled 180 in a horizontalplane. These mounting attachments are in-terchangeable on all Chance platforms.Mounting brackets are available for polesand towers.

Chance insulated platforms can be quicklymounted to the structures and positioned forconvenient working locations. Platforms areavailable in 4-ft. and 6-ft. lengths and have 2-in. strips of non-skid tape on the tread sur-face to improve footing.

Chance also offers Epoxiglas railings forbelt-on and restraining guides for linemen.

PIVOT-TYPE MOUNTING BRACKETThe lineman can swing the board 180to improve working position.

6-ft. insulated platforms are offered withPivot-Type or Adjustable-Type mountingbrackets and have Epoxiglas railings.

Insulated platforms in 4-ft. lengths areavailable in Pivot-Type or Adjustable-Type,and with either Epoxiglas tripod or railing.
