Equipment
We learnt a lot about editing when using the Mac
computers. The editing equipment allowed us to
enhance the effectivness of our thriller opening
through the effects, transistions and cuts we were
able to add to our film.
Throughout the production of our thriller
opening we used programs such as
iMovie, photoshop, polyvore, blogspot,
YouTube, mindnode and photobooth.
When using iMovie to edit our thriller video we
faced various problems. For example we were
unable to import our background music from
iTunes, but solved this problem by saving it to our
documents and importing it straight from there.
Also we encountered problems saving our work
on iMovie as saving our animatic was
unsuccessful. As a result we had to redo the
editing of our animatic.
When editing our thriller opening we used effects
such as ‘Old World’, transitions such as dissolve
and allowed us to change the contrast of some
scenes. These effects were useful for creating a
suspensful and creepy atmosphere in our
opening. Aslo, using the Mac, we were able to
find and import music to appear in our thriller
opening.
Using a tripod when filming allowed us to
film realistic and stable shots. We used
two tripods, one short and the other tall,
that were helpful filming various camera
angles and shots.
We encountered a problem when filming our final thriller
opening as we found that one of the legs on our tripod was
broken. To overcome this problem we placed our tripod
against various objects in order to keep it stable.
Using a tripod when filming helped
us to create a realistic film opening
and allowed us to film creatively
and effectively.
Our lighting
equipment included
two types of lights, a
smaller light and a
bigger light.
These two types of lights allowed use to use
the three-point lighting technique which we
used to add to the realism of our film and to
cast shadows, adding to the tense
atmosphere of our thriller opening.
The lighting equipment allowed us
to create a creepy, suspenseful
atmosphere when filming our thriller
opening. We used the lighting
equipment constantly throughout
filming, using various angles and
techniques.
We encountered problems
when filming as we found
that our large light was
broken, constantly
flickering. To overcome
this problem we used the
flickering of the light as a
technique, allowing it to
add to the tense
atmosphere present in our
thriller opening.
We used the Flip camera
when filming our animatic.
We used the Flip camera to film our animatic as
it is easy to use and import, whilst still allowing
us to film effectively.
A negative aspect of using a Flip camera is that
it limited our ability to focus on characters and
to use various camera angles and shots when
filming.
The camera allowed us to
effectively film camera
angles and shots. In our
thriller opening we used
the camera to film shots
such as close up, medium
and over the shoulder
shots, to pan, zoom and
focus.
The camera angles and shots the
camera allowed us to film created
an effective and realistic mise-en-
scene.
We encountered problems when using the
camera as when filming our thriller opening we
accidently filmed over previous footage we had
filmed. As a result we had to film our previous
footage again.
