INTRODUCTION

RIDE IN STYLE!

Welcome to our first edition of our guide to the correct attire in all areas of equestrian disciplines.

Just as other disciplines demand performance from their clothing, so do show riders, which is why you choosing the right showing attire is more than just it looking good.

BODY SHAPEFinding a jacket which suits your body shape is key. If you are pear shaped try and avoid shorter jackets. For bigger busted or inverted triangle shapes, find a jacket that gives you a waistline to balance out your shape, to avoid making you look square. For apples shapes, choose smaller over-checks or plainer tweed to give you a slimmer outline. There are lots of nationwide alteration companies popping up, so you can easily get a tailored ‘made to measure’ look on a budget.

Freedom of movement is key, so choose jackets, which feel comfortable and fit! Squeezing yourself into a jacket you have grown out of will not only look ugly, but will make you feel uncomfortable and an unwelcome distraction in the ring. Choosing a jacket, which is cut, to flatter is especially important, so look out for a nicely cut jacket, which skims your curves and gives a nice overall impression. Our tweed and plain show jackets go up to a size 24” and have been designed to suit all figures with their clever seams, pocket and button placement.

COLOURS & FABRICSChoose your fabrics wisely. Shirts are available in many fabrics these days. Fabrics features include coolmax, breathability, stretch, wicking, and crisp cottons. The technical fabrics are very comfortable, but choose these wisely as they can sometimes feel very man-made against the skin and irritate. Choosing a crisp cotton shirt looks very smart, but shirts with added Lycra give you stretch for movement in and out of the saddle, otherwise you will feel very restricted. Pure wool jackets tend to hang better and are more forgiving but there are great man-made alternatives on the market too. Equetech jackets are Teflon coating, to protect your jacket from the rain, making it showerproof. Perfect for the British summer!

Choose a colour that suits your horse. Brown tweeds look fantastic with chestnuts and bays, but avoid them if you have a piebald, Grey or black horse. Green tweeds tend to complete these horses better. Black jackets can look harsh on paler skin, whereas Navy is softer and more forgiving.

ACCESSORIESIf you are trying to achieve a new look on a budget, spruce up your existing jacket a new tie, stock or shirt. A different colour tie or pattern can completely change your look. Remember to match your browband to your tie to complete the look.

TO CONCLUDE Make a plan with a time line. Make sure you decide on your outfit a few weeks before, just in case you can’t find what you are looking for. It’s always worth contacting your brand of choice for their latest brochure to peruse their latest collections. They might surprise you! Appearance is everything and attention to the detail can make the difference between 1st and 2nd place, but remember always have fun, that’s why we do it!

We hope this guide is informative and helpful. The information given throughout is a guide and if unsure, consult your society / association rule book for comprehensive up to date regulations. If you require any further information on Equetech products, please visit www.equetech.com or contact our team on +44 (0) 1296 688 966 / [email protected]

We hope you have a successful season in the ring!
