    Electrically Powered SteeringBelt Drive EPS

Electrically Assisted Steering (EAS) by TRW is aninnovative power-assist system that eliminates theconnection between steering system and engine. Onepart of the EAS family is the Electrically PoweredSteering Belt Drive EPS.

This electromechanical powered steering system is themost efficient EAS system that TRW has to offer. Theassist power is applied directly to the rack via a drive beltand a ball nut mechanism. This design allows for lower

inertia, lower friction and more direct steering feel, aswell as superior response.

TRW control algorithms and the Electronic Control Unit(ECU) design allow steering dynamic characteristics thatare not possible with hydraulic steering, all of which canbe tuned to the application.

As with all other TRW electromechanical steeringsystems, the Belt Drive EPS consumes power only whensteering assist is needed. The product is delivered as afully tested, ready-to-install unit that leads to optimized

fuel efficiency in comparison to conventional assistedsteering systems. TRWs EPS contains no fluid toeliminate vacuum / fill operations on the factory floor.

The Belt Drive EPS by TRW is becoming smaller andmore flexible to satisfy customer packagingrequirements. The configuration of the product regardingmotor and ECU size and location are designed to adaptto customer needs.

In addition, the Belt Drive EPS can be integrated withother vehicle systems to create new functionality.
