NEWSLETTER Monday 09 December, 2019 Welcome to Week 9, Term 4
TRANSITION PROGRAM
In weeks 7 and 8, Stage 3 completed the Transition Program which was organised by our Stage 3 teachers to prepare us for high school. We received a timetable, a diary and had different classes for each subject. They were in different rooms and with different teachers. We learnt many interesting subjects such as Korean, financial literacy, different types of maths, poetry, English and sport. We needed to bring in our sport uniform to school and change clothes for our sport lessons. It was really fun to experience high school life and learn new things in different subjects. FROM THE PRINCIPAL
PRESENTATION DAY
What a wonderful day last Friday, as we
acknowledged student achievement and performance
throughout 2019. We also recognised those who
served our school as school leaders and met our
student leadership body for 2020. Our day consisted
of a presentation day for Stage 2 & 3 followed by one
for Stage 1. It concluded in the afternoon with a
graduation ceremony for our Early Stage 1 students. I
would like to thank all of our parents who attended
one, two or even all three of the events. I would like
to congratulate the boys and girls who received
awards or performed on the occasion. However I must
also congratulate the rest of the boys and girls who
behaved so fantastically, showing Epping Public
School off in the best light. There were many staff
members who had a part in putting the show
together, so many sharing the responsibility and
showing the spirit of our wonderful staff. I thank each
and every person for their part in making this a
wonderful and memorable occasion.
FAREWELL MR LE AND MS ASSAD
Each year we lose members of staff who have meant
so much to our school. This year we lose two of our
amazing teachers. First of all Mr Le, who is following
his passion to become a school counsellor. Mr Le
arrived here five years ago as a young teacher and
quickly became one of those teacher who students
wanted to be in his class. Mr Le is one of those
essential members of staff who don’t get to share the
limelight that much but works amazingly hard behind
the scenes. If something needed to be done or a duty
needed to be covered it was he who put up his hand.
When he shared his vision of wanting to be a school
counsellor we moved Mr Le on to the Learning
Support role a position he has held over the last
couple of years. He has helped many students in that
time and his caring and genuine nature will be a real
asset to the counselling ranks. During this time we
have seen his family grow with the addition of two
children and we wish him and his family all the best
for the future.
Ms Assad is the seventh in a production line of
teachers over the last five years who have gained
promotion to an Assistant Principal’s role. The fact
that so many other schools are selecting our teachers
to take on that role should tell you how lucky we are
to have such outstanding, committed, and passionate
teachers at our school. I first met Ms Assad as a
practicum teacher on Mrs Graham’s class. Ms Assad
started as a casual but her ability soon dictated that
she be given her own class as a temporary teacher.
We soon selected her for a permanent position at our
school and our belief in her abilities was soon realised.
Ms Assad took on numerous roles at our school
including technology and school performances among
many. At the same time she continued to be an
outstanding classroom teacher. Her leadership skills
became apparent and this year she supervised stage 2
students and teachers doing an amazing job and being
recognised in her appointment as Assistant Principal
to Carlingford PS. She has made a huge difference to
the students, staff and school community. It will be
sad to see her go but we wish her the best of luck in
her future endeavours. I know she will be a success.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE
This will be our last full newsletter for 2019. I want to
wish all of our students and families who are moving
on the best for the future. I hope in some way we
have made your time at Epping Public School one with
happy and wonderful memories.
To our families who will be returning in 2020, it
promises to be an amazing year as we reach the
culmination of a dream that commenced two and a
half years ago and we finally move into our new
building. However before all that happens, please
have an enjoyable break. Take the time to enjoy
family and friends and relax in whatever way you
choose. I look forward to seeing everyone back happy
and healthy for what promises to be the start of a
new journey in education.
Next week we will be issuing a double sided note
which will outline the procedures for the first few
weeks of the 2020 school year. We of course will be
occupying our new building and everyone is getting
very excited about it. However we need to do this in
a controlled and safe way. It will tell you exactly
what to do on the first day when your child comes to
school. Please take the time to read this note and
follow the directions on it. The note will be sent
home via your child, on the app and published on the
website.

TALENT QUEST 2019
The Epping Public School Talent Quest will be held Monday 16 and 17 December. It will commence from 12:15pm and roughly finish around 3:10pm. Parents are welcome to attend. We will follow the number order as attached below and there will be an 'intermission' break for recess from roughly 2:00pm until 2:20pm. We cannot specify whether your child's performance will be before or after that break.
Below is a copy of the performance days. The Talent Quest committee endeavoured to accommodate multiple acts and siblings on the same day.
If your child is performing, please make sure they bring in these items if they are applicable to their act; costume/s, instrument (school piano is provided), sheet music, props, USB with music etc. Your child will have time at lunch to change into their costume (if applicable) so please send them in full school summer uniform to school.
Due to the unavailability of the hall, there will be no formal rehearsal or run through with the students prior to the concert. Please make sure students are practising and ready to perform on the day.
Thank you, Mrs Sainty and The Talent Quest Committee

P&C ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Tuesday 12th November 2019 Staff Room
Meeting commenced at 6.35 pm, chaired by M Kelly. Attendees: J Ford, J Bailey, A Sidhu, K Collins, L Wilden, D Walker, D O’Keeffe, S Gupta, S Paul Mukhopadhyay, V Dhondse, G George & S O’Neill (minutes) Apologies: J Chung, L Winter Minutes of Previous AGM The Minutes of the previous AGM held on 13th November 2018 were accepted as a true and correct record. Moved: M Kelly 2nd L Wilden. Carried. Matters Arising from Minutes Nil Business Arising: PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Jong Chung This year we have witnessed the most significant changes since Epping Public School opened in 1901. The new, building will provide our children with access to some of the area’s newest teaching facilities. I recently took a tour of the new building and whilst it is not complete it is a very impressive building with great facilities for our children. The P&C Committee 2019 The P&C Committee manages and operates many functions that enhance the schooling and social experience for our children. Without the volunteer parents that form the P&C Committee and the parent volunteers that help throughout the year our children would not have the benefits of:
1. The new synthetic grass sports field 2. Extra smart boards in classrooms 3. Our bands 4. The canteen 5. Social activities – Disco’s, movie nights 6. Supporting annual concerts and performances 7. Additional IT equipment 8. On site uniform shop
Since, I joined the Committee the number of students at the school has doubled but each year the Committee finds it harder to attract people to volunteer and help. If you can help, even for one of our social activities please do as it will benefit our children. I’d like to thank all the parents who have assisted the Committee during the year. Our small team of parents have in my opinion achieved so much in the past 5 years. Each year as students complete Year 6, we lose families who no longer have children attending Epping Public. I’d like to thank the following people for all their help over the years and wish them all the best as their children move onto new schools.
Katrina Collins
Varsha Daithankar
Lara Winter
Natasha Winter
Patti Tse A special thank you to Katrina who was a member of the P&C and a volunteer long before I joined the P&C. P & C Committee – 2020 This year will also be my last year on the P & C as 2020 will see my children move onto new schools. Personally, I would like to thank all the parents who have been part of the P & C, over the past 5 years. I would also like to thank all the parents who have volunteered to help. Lastly, I would like to thank our Principal, Mr John Ford who has worked with the P & C to ensure that our children continue to receive schooling of the highest standard. I wish all the best to the 2020 Executive committee of;
Marissa Kelly (President) – [email protected]
Secretary (Sarah O’Neill) – [email protected]
Amandeep Sidhu (Treasurer) – [email protected]
A special thank you to Marissa who was on the P&C when I joined and continues to be a P&C committee member. If you can assist them, please contact them via their P&C emails.
