My Beliefs

My belief about teaching is that every child deserves to learn and reach

his/ her own full potential. I will emphasize an “individual student

experiences and cognitions.” Since there are 3 types of learning styles, I will

design my classroom to cater to the 3 types of learners. For example, in my

ideal math class, I will set up my room with counting blocks for the

kinesthetic learners; for auditory learners, I will give them opportunities to

read out loud in groups or allow discussion groups within the class; and as

for visual learners, I will have educational games and memory activities in

the classroom. These are just a few examples of my future set-up of a math

class. I will modify it according to the grade and ages of the students that I

am given. Furthermore, I will ensure that I assess my students principally

according to their learning styles. My classroom set-up should be organized

and everyone and every object should have designated locations.

My belief about students is that everyone makes mistakes. As a teacher, I

admit I make mistakes. I remind my students that everyone makes mistakes.

All we can do is learn from the mistake. There is a saying that “Making

mistakes is the best teacher.” As a teacher, I face the mistakes alongside the

students and help them learn from those occasions.

The relationship that I want to develop with the parents of my students is I

will have contact with parents about their children’s progress and give them

feedback and learning tools so they can aid their child’s learning in a home

setting. As for my colleagues, I will utilize them as resources since everyone

has his or her own strengths that may help my lesson plans become more

effective for my students’ learning.

My belief about knowledge is to have a balance of general concepts with

details. Personally, I learn from small details and after gathering all the

details then I generate a general idea. But as a teacher, I want to teach the

children in my classroom a combination of general ideas and the details. I

will make them decide which way is better for them to learn.

My belief about what is worth knowing is well put with, “ [I am] deeply

concerned with developing the whole child and teaching students to become

self-actualizing.” I will ensure my students acknowledge their mistakes and

learn from their mistakes to help them become better learners.

My Vision

I want to ensure that my students have fun with interactive learning by

setting up my classroom to accommodate various ways of learning. I believe

that having three styles of learning in place will give students opportunities

to learn and reach their full potential. Another vision I have is that I will

assure my students that making mistakes is a way of learning. This will help

them develop self-actualization and nurture individual growth.

Education Issues

In a classroom, issues may be present such as bullying, special- need

students and poverty. As for bullying, I will listen to the students. I will

listen to all sides and find ways to compromise. As for special- need

students, I will address this by having a teacher assistant to attend to the

student for extra help to meet the student’s learning needs. I will follow up

and monitor the progress. As for poverty, in school there are lunch-programs

where low-income families can be nourished at school. Also, I will look for

provision programs and other funding that may help those less fortunate.
