AN OPEN LETTER TO CANDIDATESWearepleasedthatyouareinterestedinoursearchforthenextRectorofChurchoftheResurrectioninOklahomaCity,OK.Althoughtraditionandhistoryhaveabiginfluenceonourdecisions,weareopentonewideasandguidancetohelpusgrowbothinnumbersandspirit.Wehopeyouwillconsiderthemanyattributes,andcometounderstandthechallengesofthisuniqueopportunity.Wehopetoattractmoreyoungpeopleandfamilies,enhanceourfinancialsituation,andenrichtheworshipexperience.

 The55-yearjourneyofthisparishbeginsintheKOCObroadcaststudiosintheearly60’swithadedicatedgroupofindividualsandcontinuestothecurrentlocationasofJanuary1989.Highlightsinclude:

➤ In1960theReverendRussellT.Raucher,RectorofAllSoul’sEpiscopalChurchinOklahomaCity,calledtogetheragroupofspeciallaypeopletoexplorethepossibilityofestablishinganEpiscopalcongregationinfarnorthwestOklahomaCity.ThegroupfoundedwhatisknowntodayasChurchoftheResurrection.

➤ ThefirstHolyCommunionwasheldatthenewchurchonFebruary19,1961.ServiceswereheldintheoldKOCObroadcaststudios.BishopChiltonPowellandtheDioceseofOklahomarecognizeditasaPreachingStation.Eightoriginalfamiliesattendedthosefirstservices.Bytheendofthatyear,thecongregationhadgrownto16familieswith38communicantsand17baptizedchildren.

➤ ThePreachingStationwasreceivedintotheDioceseofOklahomaasafull-fledgedMissionin1962.LandonNorthwestExpresswaywaspurchasedtoconstructanewchurchbuilding,whichfirsthostedservicesonJuly6,1963.By1971,theoriginaleightfamilieshadgrownto150familieswith400communicants.TheMissionbecameaParishin1976.

➤ After20yearsandwithlimitedexpansionoptions,thelandwassoldandourpresentlocationonNorthRockwellwaspurchased.BishopMcAllisterofficiatedatourgroundbreakingceremonyonMay1,1988.ThefirstserviceinourcurrentchurchbuildingwasonJanuary29,1989.OnFebruary27,2011wecelebratedour50-yearanniversary.

Weareastrongandspiritualgroupwithagreathistory.Mostimportantly—thischurchpullstogetherwhenourneedisgreatest.Weareavital,strongandlovingcongregation.Withtherightpriest,ChurchoftheResurrectioncancontinuetobethevibrantchurchthatithasprideditselfonbeing.

THE PEOPLE OF RESURRECTIONWhilewemaybeasmallcongregationnow,ChurchoftheResurrectionhastremendouspotentialforgrowth.Welookforwardtowelcominganewrectorandareexcitedaboutthepossibilitiesthefutureholds.Weinviteyoutojoinusonour“renewal”journey.

➤ Wearecompassionate,accepting,generous,loving,friendly,kind,andspiritualpeople.

Adedicatedcommunityexcitedaboutthepossibilitiesofgrowthandrenewal,whilealsolookingtocontinuetheministrieswenowperformwithcompassionandinGod’sservice.

Activelyseekingandaddingnewmemberstoourcongregation,incorporatingthemintoourchurchlife.

➤ Wearefulloffaithandtradition.Ourmobilemealsprogramreachesouttoourelderlycommunity,serving22-30peopleeachweekwithameal,smiles,andkindhearts.

➤ WearestrongprayerwarriorsatResurrection.Theinternetandemailhashelpedthisministrygrow.Caringparishioners,whencontacted,gointoactionwithanyprayerrequestreceived.Fromemailstohand-writtencards,ourcommunitywillreachouttosupportourfamilyandfriends.

➤ Wearereaders.Bibleandbookstudiesgrowourfaith.Weseekbooksthatchallengeus,allowustoquestionourfaithandactions,andgiveusjoy.Discussiongroupsareheldweeklymostoftheyear.

➤ Weareblessedasaparishfamilybymemberswhooffertheirverybesttalentsandgifts;thatkeepsResurrectionahealthyanddynamiccongregation.Weenjoycloseandpersonalrelationshipsformedbyloveandsupport,notonlyduringtimesofcrisisbutjoy—andweincludenewpeopleinourcircleofcaring.WetrytohelpeachmembertogrowintotheChristianfaithwheretoleranceandacceptancearethenorm.

Mission:ChurchoftheResurrectionexiststobeacenterofChristianlivingbycultivatingapersonalrelationshipwithourLordJesusChrist,eachother,andthepeopleofourcommunity.

WORSHIP AT RESURRECTIONOurprimaryworshipserviceisSundayatthe10:30amRiteII,followingChristianEducationat9:30am.

WealsoofferservicesforAshWednesday,MaundyThursday,GoodFriday,StationsoftheCross,HolySaturday,LessonsandCarols,Evensong,BlessingoftheAnimals,etc.

Aswecommitourselvestogrowth,welookforwardtoreturningtotwoSundaymorningservicesbyre-establishingtheRiteIHolyEucharistat8:00am.

Acolytes BecominganacolyteisagreatwaytogetinvolvedandtolearnmoreaboutEpiscopalworship.Acolyteserviceisopentoanyoneinoraroundthefourthgradeorabove.Periodicmandatorytrainingsessionsarerequired.Wearealwaysinneedofadditionalacolytesandwelcomeanyonewhoisinterested.

5YearGoal:Toseepeopleofallagesworkintheacolyteprogram.AdultsaswellasyoungchildrencanlearnthefullmeaningofourEpiscopalcelebration.Workshopswouldhelpeveryonelearnandbecomfortableintheiracolyteduties.

GreatestStrength:Ourleadership.

GreatestNeed:Forparishmembers,allages,tovolunteertheirtimeandtalents.

Altar Guild BeingontheAltarGuildrequiresoneweekendpermonth,twohoursonSaturdaymorning,halfanhourbeforeandafterthe10:30service.Schedulingisdonequarterlyandspecialservicesareassignedasneeded.

5YearGoal:Tohaveadequatemembersandmorecongregationalinvolvement,especiallyforspecialoccasions.

GreatestStrength:Thepeoplewhoserveareextremelydedicated,reliableandtakegreatprideinservingGodandthecongregationbypreparingthealtarforallservicesandoccasions.

GreatestNeed:Morepeoplewillingtoserve.Presently,wehaveatotalofonlysixmembers;ideally,wewouldhaveaminimumoftentotwelvemembers.

PROGRAMS & MINISTRIES: WORSHIP

Eucharistic Ministers Layreadersparticipateinallservices.AtTheChurchoftheResurrection,layreadersnormallywearalbs,cincturesandcrosseswhileservingasreaders.Atthebeginningandendoftheservice,theyprocessinandoutwiththeacolytesandcelebrant.Duringtheservice,theysitinthepewontheepistlesideofthechurch.SomelayreadersalsoserveasEucharisticministers,assistingtheclergyduringcommunion.Wearealwaysinneedofadditionallayreaders;ifyouhaveaninterestinthisministry,pleasecontactthePriest.

5YearGoal:Withtheagreementofthenewrector,thisministrywillexpandtoincludemembersfromthecongregationaslectors.

GreatestStrength:Hasitsrootswiththeacolytesandlectorsoftheearlychurch.Theseearlyministersassistedatthealtarwithasenseofserviceandhumility.Thesesameattributesexistintoday’slayministers.

GreatestNeed:Morepeoplewillingtoserve.Presently,wehaveatotalofonlyfourmembers;ideally,wewouldhave8-10members.

Ushers Ushershandoutprograms,greetpeopleattendingtheSundayserviceandprovideassistancetopeopleneedinghelpwithspecialcircumstances.TheyprovideattendancecountforCommunion,presentCommunionelementstotheacolytes,passtheoffertoryplatestothecongregationandatCommunion,directpeopletothealtartoreceivethesacraments.Aftertheservice,theushersassistthealtarguildandcountanddocumentallcashreceivedfromtheoffertory.Theusherministryisalwayslookingfornewmembersandisopentobothmenandwomen.

5YearGoal:Morepeopletousher.Itwouldbegreattohavegrowthofyoungfamilieswhichwouldprovidemorevolunteersofallages.

GreatestStrength:Ourconsistencyandwelcomingattitude,makingallregularsandvisitorsfeelwelcome.

GreatestNeed:Moreusherstostaffthe8:00servicewhenitisreestablished.

PROGRAMS & MINISTRIES:MusicministryisanimportantpartofthelifeofworshipatResurrection.Whileweenjoythetraditionalhymns,weareinterestedinenhancingthemusicprogrambyaddingspecialmusicandincorporatingmorecontemporarymusic.

Choir 5YearGoal:ToperformChoralEvensongandtopresentchallengingsacredchoralmusic.Forthistooccur,weneedmembers.

GreatestStrength:Versatility/flexibility

GreatestNeed:Members.

Bells In2005,asetof3-octaveSchulmerichhandbellswasdedicatedinmemoryofaparishioner.

In2014,3octavesofhandchimeswereaddedtoourbellministry.

5YearGoal:Toincreasebellchoirmemberssothatwecanacquirethe4thoctaveandperformhigherqualityliterature.

GreatestStrength:Diversity.

GreatestNeed:Acquiringbellliteraturethatisaccessible.Thedichotomyofbellliteratureiseithertoodifficultorwaytooeasy.FindingtheGoldilocksofsacredbellliteratureischallenging.

Prayer Chain/Email Prayer Chain ThePrayerGroupministrywasorganizedforthepurposeofemergencyprayersituationsorotheremotionalcrisisorcriticalsituations.ParishionersareencouragedtonotifythechurchassoonaspossiblesoprayerrequestscanbesenttotheClergyandaddedtothePrayerChain.Asemergencyprayerrequestsareknown,requestsareforwardedtotheEmailPrayerChain.Wealwaysobtainpermissionbeforeanyprayerrequestsaresentout.IfyouareinterestedinparticipatinginthePrayerMinistry,pleasespeakwithDeaconBethBellorthechurchoffice.

5YearGoal:Hopefullywewillhaveabiggercongregationandmorepeoplewillingtoparticipateintheministry.

GreatestStrength:Communication.Peoplefeelmoreconnectedwhentheyknowwhatisgoingonandhopefullytheyfeelinvolvedwhentheyagreetoprayforthosewhohaverequestedprayers.

Prayer Shawls ThePrayerShawlMinistryisopentoanymemberoftheparish.Prayershawlsareknittedorcrocheted,andcreatedwithloveandprayerfortherecipient.Theshawlsareblessedbyourclergyandparishioners,andthengiventoboththoseinneedandcandidatesforbaptism.

5YearGoal:Wouldliketoseetheministrywell-establishedwithintheparish,toincludemanytypesofpeoplemakingshawls(youth,shut-ins,friendsoftheparishioners,etc.)andregulardistributionvialaityandclergy.

GreatestStrength:Everypersonintheparishcanparticipateinthisministrybysharingtheirprayersandblessings.Also,itisaverytactile,physicalwayforthecreators,parishioners,andrecipientstointeractwiththeministry(creating,layinghandsoninblessing,wearing/holding).Theshawlsaretrulyanoutwardandvisiblesignoftheinwardandspiritualgracethatweallwanttoholdcloseduringtryingtimes.

GreatestNeed:Morecreatorsandmoreshawls.Also,amorestructuredwayofdistribution,andtoincorporatethemmoreintothepastoralministryoftheparishwithmoreparticipationbytheclergy(givingshawls,andmakingknownneeds).HavinganactiveStephenMinistrywouldalsohelptogetshawlstopeopleinneed.

Adult Formation EpiscopalChurchoftheResurrectionofferstwosectionsofadultChristianeducation.

DeaconBethBellleadsthelectionaryclasseachweek,bringingthelessonsofthedayintofocus.Theclassgivesallparticipantstheopportunitytoengageinwhatsomanychurchmemberswanttodo,learnmoreabouttheBible.

OurotheradultSundayschoolclasslooksatthehistoricalrootsofourfaithandpromotesanunderstandingoffaithandChristianity.Topicshaveincludedtheodicy,thegreatworldreligion,andtherelationshipbetweenChristianityandscience.

5yeargoal:Beabletobuildclassa.endancenumbersbaseduponlearningChris6anEduca6onandvaluestouseinoureverydaylives.Takingwhatislearnedintoourhomesandworkplaces.

Book Study Thebookstudymeetsweeklyandhasreadawiderangeofauthorsandreligious/spiritualtopics.Ourbooksnotonlyprovidelearningbutservetoofferdiscussionpoints.Weenjoyfellowshipandlaughterandwelcomeallwhoareinterested.Someexamplesofauthorsthatwehavestudiedinclude:MarkBuchanan,BarbaraTaylor,SimonWiesenthal,EdwardHayesandRabbiEvanMoffie.

Greateststrength:Thediversityofauthorsandbooksthatthegroupchooses.Thegroupworkstogethertopickabookabouttheirfaith,spiritualityorchallengestheirfaith.

5yeargoal:Morecommunityandparishinvolvement.Perhapshavingthestudygroupmeetatdifferentrestaurantsorcoffeecafésothatpeopleintheareawouldbecomeinterestedorinvolved.Takethebookstudytothecommunity.

Children’s Church Children’sChurchisaspecialtimethatoccursduringthe10:30a.m.worshipserviceforchildrenagespre-kindergarten-5th grade. The worship begins with show and tell, songs and discussing the church season. We have an openingstatement about the day’s gospel and share how they help others andmake a difference inGod’s world.We read alectionarybasedbiblestoryandgospeltogether,havediscussion,prayers,blessingsandpeace.

5YearGoal:Tokeepworkinghardsothattheyoungchildrenhaveaspecialtimeofworship.

GreatestStrength:Teamteaching,andgreatmaterials;theLivingTheGoodNewsseriescorrespondswiththeGospel.

GreatestNeed:Torearrangeourtimesothatwecanallgointocommuniontogetherandremainwithourfamilies.

Children’s Sunday School (Pre-Kto5thgrade)Itfollowsthelectionarythroughathree-yearcycleusingtheLiturgyoftheGoodNewsseries. Thechildrenparticipateinartactivitiesthatcorrelatewiththelesson,aswellasBiblesongsandfingerplays.Theyalsousethewhiteboard,puzzlesandplaydoughandalwaysclosetheclasstimewithadevotionalprayer.

5YearGoal:Tocontinuetogrowandencourageyoungparentstoalwaysfeelwelcomeandtoparticipate.

GreatestStrength:Teamteaching.Welearnmore,shareresponsibilitiesandenjoyguidingthechildrentogether.

Cursillo Cursilloisaweekendspenttogrowinyourfaithandspirituality.TheweekendhelpstodeepenyourunderstandingofhowyoucanserveJesusandextendthisintoyourenvironmentandeverydaylife.EpiscopalChurchCursilloisactiveatChurchoftheResurrection.ManypeoplehavecompletedtheCursilloweekendandhaveanactivegroupforcontinuingtogivebackbyworkingontheCursilloTeams.The4thday,whichcontinuesthespiritualgrowth,meetsthelastSundayofeachmonthinthelibrary.

Nursery Thenursery iskeptcleanandmaintainedwithawidevarietyofageappropriateactivitiestokeepchildrenengagedandhappy.Thenurseryworkersaretrainedinthe“SafeguardingGod’sChildren”programandallowparentstoleavetheirmosttreasured possessions in a safe and inviting environment. The nursery is overseen by a committee of parents and ourClergy.ThenurseryisavailableforSundayschool,the10:30serviceandisalsoprovidedforspecialoccasions.

5YearGoal:Havemoreyoungchildren(7-10).Teachprayers,biblestudy.KnowthemeaningofourworshipserviceandwhatHolyCommunionreallymeans.

GreatestStrength:Ournurserydirectorhasadegreeineducation,hastaughtfor35yrs.andhasagreatinteractionwiththekids.

GreatestNeed:Morechildrenwiththeirparentsattendingonregularbasis.

Youth Ministries and Programs Theyouthgrouphasbeen“paused”forthepurposeofrethinking,revisioning,andrebuilding;weareanxioustorestarttheyouthministryatResurrection.Inthepast,theyouthgrouphasdoneeverythingfrommissiontripstoskitrips,pancakesuppers,chilicookouts,lock-ins,andworkdays.Welookforwardtoseeingwherethisministrygrowsinthefuture.

5YearGoal:Aself-sustainableyouthministryguidedbyayouthcouncilmadeupofsenioryouth,churchmembersandstaff.Wouldliketoofferyouthopportunitiesformultiplegradelevels.

GreatestStrength:Anopenacceptanceofpeoplethatarenotnormallyacceptedinthechurchsetting.YouthwhoconsistentlycometoWednesdaynightmeetings.Sponsorswhohaveahighdegreeofcommitment.

GreatestNeed:Astrongvisionforyouthministrywithaleadershipandcommitmentingrowingtheyouth.Aftertalkingwiththecongregationthisisanareaofhighpriority.

Care Share Christmas ChristmasoutreachhasbeenanintegralpartofResurrectionsinceDeaconBethBellintroducedustoAngelTreePrisonMinistryin1999.Eachyeartheparishhelpedtoprovidegiftstochildrenofincarceratedparents.Later,weaddedanewpillowforeachchild,withabright,cheerful,handmadepillowcasemadebytheparish.Wealsopurchasedturkeysandgroceriesforeachfamilytomakeaholidaymeal.WhenAngelTreeadoptedsomepolicychanges,DeaconBethandthevestrydecidedtotrysomethingnewfor2016—andjoinedwithCareShareChristmastoservelocalfamiliesinneed.CareShareChristmashasbeenawell-knownoutreachprogramforamorethan20yearsandwillallowourchurchtominstertoschoolsinourareaandpossiblysponsorthesefamiliesthroughouttheyear.Giftswillbeboughtforthefamiliesaswellasmeetotherneedstheymayhave.ThisisanewadventureforResurrectiontogetmoreinvolvedwithourlocalschools.Wewillstillprovidethehandmadepillowcasesourparishmakestogether.

5YearGoal:ContinueandgrowacommunityoutreachprogramduringtheChristmasholidayseason.

GreatestStrength:Participationandenthusiasmofparishionersandfriendsoftheparish.

GreatestNeed:Tocontinuethisholidayoutreachministryregardlessofachanginglandscape.

Card Connection Thisministryprovidesgreetingcardsforbirthdays,anniversariesandillness.Ourshut-insreceivetheweeklySundaybulletinwhichallowsallourmemberstostaybetterconnected.

5YearGoal:Tobegindoingthecardministryonline.

GreatestStrength:Thisministrybringsgood,kindandcaringfeelingstoalotofpeople.

GreatestNeed:Theparishcanhelpthisministrybykeepingacurrentuptodatemailingaddressandemailaddress.

Mobile Meals EpiscopalChurchoftheResurrectionisoneofapproximately80non-profitorganizations,mostlychurches,inOklahomaCountythatparticipatesintheOklahomaCountyMobileMealsprogrambyprovidinganoonmealtoseniorcitizens.

Wetypicallyservebetween25-30clientsassignedtous,butwemayalsoservemembersofourparishwhoareinneedonatemporaryorpermanentbasis.Wehaveapproximately10volunteersthatprepareand/ordeliverhothome-stylemealstothoseclientseveryTuesday(evenChristmasweek).Mostofourvolunteersarechurchmembers,butwealsohavesomefriendsfromoutsidethechurchwhoassist.Volunteersgenerallyworkfrom9amtonoononTuesdays.Theparishsupportsthiseffortbybakingcakesonaregularbasis,providingcookiesatChristmas,andnon-perishableitemsforourwinter“badweather”mealsthatwegiveincasewearenotabletodeliver.

5YearGoal:Tobeself-sustaining,havingenoughresourcesinbothpeopleandmoneytoserveapproximately30peopleinourgeographicareathatneedourassistance.Inordertomeetthisgoal,weneedapproximately$50perweekforfoodandsupplies.Wecurrentlyreceiveanaverageof$15aweekindonationsfromourclients.

GreatestStrength:Wearecommunity-basedandprovidingamuch-neededservicetoavulnerablepopulation.Indoingso,wereachnotjustourclientswithinthecommunity,butotherswecomeincontactwithasweprovidetheservice,aswellasthosevolunteerswhoassistusthatarenotapartofourparish.

GreatestNeed:Resources.Wedo“alotwithalittle”,butwewouldliketoincreasebothourmonetaryandhumanresourcessothatwecanbeself-sustaining.Wehavegoodvolunteersandmanywhosupporttheprogramwithboththeirtimeandmoneybutwouldliketohavemoresupportsothatthe“load”ismoreevenlydistributed.

Will Clinics Annually,thechurchpartnerswithLegalAidServicesofOklahomaandvolunteersoftheOklahomaBarAssociationinaclinicallowingmembersoftheChurchandmembersofthecommunitytolearnaboutandwills,trusts,powersofattorneyandadvanceddirectivesprepared. Ourgoalistoassistthoseunabletoaffordlegalservicesandtakesomeoftheguessworkoutoftheprocessandlimittheneedforcourtinvolvement.Allofthisisofferedfreetoanyonewishingtoparticipate.

5YearGoal:ToestablishResurrectionasaplacetohelppeoplewhomightnototherwisehavelegalassistanceandcounsel.

GreatestStrength:Thewillingnessofparishmemberswhoprovidesupportservicesforthisministry.

Hospitality There are a number of occasions throughout the year when receptions or pot-luckmeals happen at the church. Theplanning and preparation for these events vary depending on the nature of the gathering. We have a very gracious,energeticpopulationwhichalwayshelpswithset-upandclean-upforourreceptions. Workinginourkitchenforpotluckdinners,weddingsandbaptismsisafunplacetowork.Ourleadershipkeepseveryonebusyandlaughing.

BUILDING & GROUNDSOurchurchbuildingwasconstructedin1988andislocatedinNorthwestOklahomaCity.Thepropertyislocatedonthreeacresofland,approximately16,271squarefeetandisvaluedat$1.5-$2million.Thepropertyincludes:navewithchapelandcolumbarium,carillon,sacristy,vestingroom,AltarGuildroom,choirroom,parishhall,fullkitchen,sextonscloset,storageroom,fiveclassrooms,fouroffices,workroom,nursery,library(withpartialkitchen),fencedplayground,twostoragesheds,softballfield,gardens(frontandbackofchurchbuilding)andanundergroundsprinklersystem.

The“Immanuel”windowwasdonatedbyaparishionerinmemorytheReverendWalterHoskin.ThiswindowcamefromtheImmanuelAnglicanChurchinLondon,England,survivingthebombingduringWorldWarIIdespitethefactthechurchdidnotsurviveandwasnotrebuilt.Itisbelievedthatthewindowdatesto1820.ThewindowislocatedonthewestwalloftheNaveandduringspecialseasonsonecanwatchasacrossofcoloredlightmovesdowntheaisle,climbsthewallbehindthealtarandembracesthewoodencrosshangingthere.Truly,Godhasblesseduswiththisbuildingandthiswindow.
