About EPCON

With its history going back to 1986, EPCON Evaporation Technology AS is atechnology company with high theoretical and practical competence. Our staff hasbackgrounds in thermal and heat pump process engineering, construction andmechanical engineering, chemistry and material technology. This gives EPCON amultidisciplinary line-up, with long term experience and references from severalindustries.

Located in the city of Trondheim, Norway

EPCON is located in the city of Trondheim in the middle part of Norway. Trondheim isinternationally well known as a centre for technology, mainly due to the location ofthe renowned Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU, in the city.SINTEF, the largest independent research organization in Scandinavia, is also locatedin Trondheim.

EPCONs customers are national and international industrial companies. Our processtechnology is used in the food industry, biomarine industry, process industry and

biofuel industry.

Our main geographical market is the Nordic countries, but we also have deliveries tothe rest of Europe, Asia and Americas.

Products

EPCON supplies evaporation plants for separating different types of fluids or fluidsfrom solid material, based on the principles of evaporation and distillation. EPCON hasdeveloped unique energy efficient technical solutions for a number of separation andpurification processes.

Treating wastewaters from different industries are often abig challenge. With an EPCON MVR evaporator the volumeflow can often be reduced by 90-99%. Typical wastewaterstreams suitable for MVR evaporation includes leachates,wastewater from metal fabrication, wastewater fromcleaning of fish nets, wastewater from production of foodand ingredients and many more.

EPCON has a long time experience and know-how in energy efficient MVR evaporation ofwastewaters and rinse waters from manyindustries. The treated water can bedischarged or re-used as process water.

The table above shows maximum evaporation capacity for each model according to evaporation temperature. The energy consumption is normally 15-50 kWh/m3

evaporated water.

Based on 6 sizes each unit is engineered tofit the customers application. The maincomponents such as MVR blower, pump andheat exchanger are sized in order to makeeach application work in an optimal way.

EPCOVAP-MVR performance

This is a reduction of up to 99% compared toa 1 effect steam driven evaporator. MVR orMechanical Vapor Re-compression (also knownas MVC) is a technology where the vapor iscompressed in a fan or a compressor toa higher temperature and pressure.This compressed vapor is then used as energysource instead of boiler steam. Most of theproducts delivered by EPCON are based onMVR technology.

EPCON has 30 years experience withMVR technology.

The EPCOVAP-MVR uses compact centrifugal MVR fans for the larger models androots blowers for the smaller models. The use of MVR gives a superior energyconsumption compared to steam driven, TVR and heat pump evaporators.

Quality and testing

Before delivery to client, each EPCOVAP-MVR unit undergoes a full quality inspectionand performance test in the workshop by an EPCON engineer. This includes testingtightness, IO, and all sequences such as start-up, production and cleaning. Anevaporation test with water is also performed where parameters as vibrations andnoise is checked.
