Architectural Discovery (Grades 2-4) $275In these half-day sessions younger students will discover various
aspects of architecture. Students will explore architecture
based activities and projects designed to promote creativity and
imagination. They will learn about patterns in nature and make
an abstract art piece inspired by Wrights stained glass. They will
design and construct a textile block based on the concrete
blocks Wright designed in 1923. He later used concrete blocks
for the Usonian Automatic home system conceived of as a way
to make great architecture affordable for ordinary people.
Limit 12 students per session.
Camp Sessions:
June 1014, 14pm; July 15, 9am12pm
Photographing Wright (Grades 7-12) $250
Frank Lloyd Wright was not only a marvel in the world of
architecture; he was a revolutionary, creating harmony between
the natural landscape and man-made structures. Natural shapes,
colors and forms in the Sonoran Desert influenced several of the
key features that uniquely define Taliesin West. Local Arizona
photographer, Andrew Pielage, will guide students on a weeklong
photographic journey through Taliesin West and the surrounding
desert. Students begin with a brief desert walk to discover and
photograph Wrights inspiration. Later they will photograph
architectural elements that reflect the desert. Images will be
examined and discussed during the week. Learning the rules of
composition, how to frame an image, and consideration of light and
shadow will help participants continue to grow in their creativity
and skill at photography. Students must provide their own fully
manual camera and USB cord. Limit 8 students per session.

Design Your Dream Space Full Day(Grades 512) $400Architecture combines art, math, science, language, and new
technology, to create innovative spaces in which to live, learn,
and work. This class is an immersion into the world of what
an architect really does. Students discover the roles of client,
designer, and builder as they take an initial concept through
the stages to a finished project. They select a site and draw
a two dimensional floor plan to scale. Students develop a
color scheme, design furniture, and construct a furnished and
landscaped three dimensional model of a compact dream
home. Environmental needs and sustainability are discussed.
The educational atmosphere is supportive and relaxed. Each
child works at her/his own level, inspiring individual curiosity,
discovery, and imagination. Full day sessions include lunch.

EDUCATION OUTREACH
2013 SUMMER CAMPS
Wright for the Future (Grades 5-12) $400We live in a world where communication is almost
instantaneous. The Internet has made our world feel much
smaller than ever before. News events can travel around the
globe in a matter of minutes. Distant cultures and countries
are part of our daily television and online viewing. In this
project students grapple with some real world challenges:
global warming, pollution, new trends in energy and
communication technologies, advancements in construction
methods, and new modes of transportation as they plan and
design an ideal city set 100 years in the future. Creativity and
ingenuity are required to solve the architect ural challenges
of the 21st century. Individuals research exciting, newly
constructed concept buildings and cutting edge architects.
The team collaborates on construction of a site map, models
of the wide variety of struc tures required in a city, and
decides on a city name. Each camper builds smaller models of
these large structures, turning ideas into a three dimensional
reality. Limit 25 students per session.
Camp Sessions:
July 812, 9am3pm
July 29August 2, 9am3pm
