Eastern Ontario Chess Challenge Provincial Tournaments Tournament date is Sunday April 08, 2018 at Kingston Frontenac Mall Bath Road, Kingston. All grades kindergarten, grade 1 to grade 8 and grade 9 thru grade 12 are eligible. We have chess equipment for purchase at school discount cost. The great thing about chess...... it’s not expensive. Personally I have the time to help start and coach your school chess club. I have been helping numerous Limestone School Board schools in the past 3 years.

Chess’nMath Association (CMA) operates as a major contributor to Canadian Chess. Operating and co-ordinating chess tournaments in Ontario (and all other provinces) to qualify our top schools chess students for the Canadian Chess Championship.

Roman Polywkan (white shirt guy on the left of the demo board) is the Chess Coordinator for Eastern Ontario Region.

All schools are welcome to play and qualify for Canadian Championship. Each division to play shall play in their school grade level only. School Grade 1 plays grade 1 students... school grade 8 students play only grade 8 students. Kindergarten is not to popular, if any, they may have to play in school grade 1 level. Kindergarten will have their own Kindergarten level when playing at the Ontario and Canadian Championships.

Secondary School grades 9 thru 12 also play in their own grade levels at Provincial and Canadian Championships. May require mixing grade 9 & 10 and 11 & 12 for local tournaments.

School chess clubs usually run during the winter, January through April and most schools have one 40 minute session during mid day break. Some schools try two sessions a week, and others break their grades, grades 1 to 4 one day grade 5 to 8 on another. Hope your school starts a chess club in 2018.

CHESS .... LEARNING SKILLS FOR LIFE APPLICATION Yes Chess is a game. Another game for kids at school?. Well no not really. Chess is One of the oldest games of skill not chance. Similar, or original base roots of chess are nearly 2000 years old. Our chess as we play it began around 1250, the European chess game, called the game of Kings. You can google history of chess and come up with quite a few versions of when and where chess originated.

Students of Chess are believed to acquire many skills which they take into their lives...reasoning...judgement...strategy...tactics...calculation... sportsmanship...friendships..arts...@...joy and accomplishment.
