Canada According to the OECD environmental ranking (2010), Canada ranks 24 th out of 25 countries. Canada ranks poorly in waste and pollution emissions, such as greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, volatile organic compounds, nuclear waste, etc. However, has high rankings for producing healthy foods, meaning that the pesticides and use of fertilizer hasn't caused much damage to the ecosystems around the area of usage. - The Green Party - M.P. With a past that was dependent on oil, Scandinavia is now well known to use green energy, efficient buildings, and low fossil fuel use. In 2002 the Canadian Liberal government had officially ratified the agreement, but as they lost power in 2006 to the Conservatives, the Kyoto Protocol had been discarded. The initial goal had been to reduce the GHG emissions 6% from the 1990 level of 461 Mt (megatonnes) by 2020; but as Harper took over, the emissions rose by 26.2% from 1990-2007. Harper officially withdrew Canada from the agreement in 2011, and instead promised to reduce the emissions by 17% from the 2005 level of 747Mt by 2020.
