Guide to
Environmental Waste Services (EWS) provides local residents, businesses, construction/demolition contractors and other Garland city departments with quality solid waste collection and disposal service to maintain a clean and healthy city, promote recycling of reusable materials, and minimize the costs of collection and disposal.
EWS strives for improvement in service delivery and disposal operations to meet the changing needs of our customers and employ technological breakthroughs to gain efficiency and ensure the safety of our employees and citizens.

The City of Garland is a leader in fully automated residential collection systems. All normal household garbage should be bagged and placed inside the green container so the lid closes completely. Collection routes are run weekly Tuesday through Friday. Service includes delivery and maintenance of one green container. We will provide up to two additional containers for a monthly charge of $6.1 0 for each additional container.

Guidelines for Fast, Efficient Collection:• Place container at collection point no later than 7 a.m. on collection day • Place multiple containers side-by-side with four feet (4') of space between them and position the wheels toward the house. • Do not place containers near mailboxes, electrical or cable boxes, or other stationary objects such as gas or water meter and do not park vehicles in front of container on collection day• If your container needs repair or replacing, contact EWS Customer Service at 972-205-3500• Household chemicals and electronics are not allowed in the trash container. Take them to the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center at 11234 Plano Rd., Dallas. Call 214-553-1765 for information and operating hours.
Collection Map
Brush & Bulky Goods Collection is provided for large household items that will not fit into your green trash container. All items placed for collection should be generated by residents at their own property. The city does not collect contractor-generated waste from construction repairs, remodeling jobs ortree/lawn work.

Brush & Bulky Goods GuidelinesWe accept four (4) categories of items for brush & bulky goods collection, and each should be placed between the sidewalk and curb in front yard in separate, distinct piles: 1. Limbs, tree trunks, brush trimmings – must be separated from other bulky goods 2. Appliances such as refrigerators, washers, stoves (remove contents and doors) 3. Bags of leaves and grass 4. Bulky goods, including carpeting, mattresses, furniture

All other bulky items may only be placed at curbside after 6 a.m. on the day before collection. • Construction debris pickup is for residents who have performed remodeling work on their own property only and can be set out for collection only four times per year • We do not pick up roofing materials, asphalt, concrete, tires, bagged household garbage
We provide fee-based premium brush collection for brush placed in an accessible paved alley, for oversized brush piles, for commercial brush piles or to collect on a day other than the scheduled collection day.

Recycle More NOW…it’s easier than ever, just mix it together. EWS offers automated and manual collection single stream recycling, which allows residents to recycle more materials and combine all recyclable materials into one recycling container or red bin(s). Why send materials to the landfill that can be manufactured into new products?
Acceptable Materials • Newspaper, junk mail, advertising inserts, magazines, chipboard (cereal and cracker boxes), white and colored paper, telephone books and small, empty and flattened cardboard boxes that fit into the recycling container • Aluminum, steel and tin cans (rinse lightly, lids okay) • Empty aerosol cans that do not contain chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) • Glass bottles and jars (rinse lightly and remove lids) • Plastic containers #1 - #5 and #7 (except #6 Styrofoam)
Collection Frequency/Missed CollectionResidential recycling is collected every other week on the same day as garbage.Check www.garlandenvironmentalwaste.com for current collection schedule. If recycling is not picked up on collection day, notify Customer Service at 972-205-3500 or email [email protected]
PlacementPlace at collection point by 7 a.m. on collection day, and place at least four feet (4’) between recycling container and green garbage container. If using red bin(s), place extra recycling in clear or white bags next to red bin(s). If using blue containers, recycling should be unbagged and lid should close on container.
Container/Bin ReplacementReport damaged or missing container(s) to Customer Service. There is no charge to repair/replace damaged container(s). To request additional red bin(s), call or email Customer Service.

Commercial haulers are billed on a per ton basis, with a minimum $10.00 charge. All vehicles hauling solid waste to the Transfer Station and Landfill must have a suitable cover/tarp placed over the load to prevent trash from blowing or falling from the vehicle.
