Press Release August 13, 2020 1 / 3 Environmental management at Vector: Consistent conservation of resources - by conviction right from the start Stuttgart, August 13, 2020 – With the Public Vector Group Report "Corporate Carbon Footprint 2019", Vector has laid the foundation for a new type of reporting in environmental management at the Stuttgart-based IT company. The targeted conservation of resources can now be presented and tracked more systematically and professionally. Whether it's a solar system on an ecologically sound building, the use of geothermal energy, green electricity in data centers, regional food in catering or the subsidized use of public transportation - the guiding philosophy of Vector's corporate environmental policy is environmentally friendly out of deep conviction. For the new reporting system, a globally suitable standard was chosen in which all consumables are converted into CO2 equivalents using a standardized procedure in order to make the conservation of resources comparable. This allows the CO2 balance to be calculated and presented for each individual employee. At Vector this is just 0.1 tons per year. This figure is achieved primarily through modern and sustainable buildings, through changes in employee behavior through training and reminders, and by using intelligent technologies such as server virtualization. The latter are available to employees faster and more easily and have a positive effect on environmental management. The aim of the project launched last year is to create a quantitative reporting system. Starting with the headquarters in Stuttgart in 2019, the data from all Vector buildings in Germany (Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Regensburg) will be analyzed and processed for 2020. In a third step, the data from all Vector locations worldwide will be presented in a reporting. All rented areas are also taken into account, even if the control influence there is much less than in Vector's own buildings. Vector's motivation, however, has been to operate the business as resource-efficiently as possible, not just since the report, but since the company was founded over 30 years ago. The importance of sustainability to Vector is particularly evident in the high investments in building infrastructure that the company has made for decades. The latest benchmark for this is the Vector building in Holderäckerstrasse in Stuttgart. It is the only commercially used office building in the world that has received the two highest awards from the German Sustainable Building Council - Platinum for sustainable building and Diamond for outstanding architecture with special design and building culture quality. This was achieved through Vector's high standards, above-average investments and planning down to the smallest detail. For Danilo Assmann, Vector Group's Environmental Officer, it is clear: "We do all this not just to be better than others, but because we think it is right. The company, which was founded by engineers, is still driven by many engineers today, who have a certain "play instinct" when trying out, implementing and applying new technologies, as Assmann explains, thus reflecting the way of thinking of the Vectorians. Environmental management at Vector: Consistent conservation of resources - by conviction right from the start

Stuttgart, August 13, 2020 – With the Public Vector Group Report "Corporate Carbon Footprint 2019", Vector has laid the foundation for a new type of reporting in environmental management at the Stuttgart-based IT company.

For the new reporting system, a globally suitable standard was chosen in which all consumables are

converted into CO2 equivalents using a standardized procedure in order to make the conservation of

resources comparable. This allows the CO2 balance to be calculated and presented for each individual

employee. At Vector this is just 0.1 tons per year. This figure is achieved primarily through modern and

sustainable buildings, through changes in employee behavior through training and reminders, and by using

intelligent technologies such as server virtualization. The latter are available to employees faster and more

easily and have a positive effect on environmental management.

The aim of the project launched last year is to create a quantitative reporting system. Starting with the

headquarters in Stuttgart in 2019, the data from all Vector buildings in Germany (Stuttgart, Karlsruhe,

Regensburg) will be analyzed and processed for 2020. In a third step, the data from all Vector locations

worldwide will be presented in a reporting. All rented areas are also taken into account, even if the control

influence there is much less than in Vector's own buildings.

Vector's motivation, however, has been to operate the business as resource-efficiently as possible, not just

since the report, but since the company was founded over 30 years ago. The importance of sustainability to

Vector is particularly evident in the high investments in building infrastructure that the company has made for

decades. The latest benchmark for this is the Vector building in Holderäckerstrasse in Stuttgart. It is the only

commercially used office building in the world that has received the two highest awards from the German

Sustainable Building Council - Platinum for sustainable building and Diamond for outstanding architecture with

special design and building culture quality. This was achieved through Vector's high standards, above-average

investments and planning down to the smallest detail. For Danilo Assmann, Vector Group's Environmental

Officer, it is clear: "We do all this not just to be better than others, but because we think it is right. The

company, which was founded by engineers, is still driven by many engineers today, who have a certain "play

instinct" when trying out, implementing and applying new technologies, as Assmann explains, thus reflecting

the way of thinking of the Vectorians. On the one hand it is technically interesting and on the other hand it has

a positive effect on the environmental balance. Overall, the key figures for buildings and business travel are

very pleasing. This is also clear from the purchasing policy for non-self-generated energy: Vector achieves a

quota of almost 100 % in the conversion to green electricity and biogas.

Reduction and avoidance are the main tasks of Vector's environmental management - especially for

everything that is used for heat and power supply. Vector achieves the greatest reduction when constructing

new buildings that are adapted to meet Vector's high standards. These include power-saving LED lighting,

presence detectors for automatic light switching and standby power savings by switching off circuits at closing

times, which are installed in the buildings from the very beginning. To avoid emissions, Vector also uses

geothermal energy or cooling in the buildings, as well as ecologically sound fuels in its vehicle fleet - all e-cars

are fueled with green electricity.

When it comes to business travel, especially flights, Vector has been using a sense of proportion for years.

Nevertheless, learning effects from the corona crisis, especially the expansion of modern communication

technologies and collaboration tools, may find a permanent place in the future. The CO2 emissions caused by

rail travel, flights and travel in company cars will be fully compensated.

Environmental management is lived out of conviction at Vector and is taken very seriously by the employees.

This gives each individual the opportunity to contribute new ideas. And step by step, this becomes noticeable

on site. The goal of the new reporting standard in Vector's environmental management is to become more

systematic in measurability and to apply the reporting from Germany to all Vector locations worldwide.
