Brampton Environment Advisory Committee
2016 Accomplishments
Brampton Environment Advisory Committee (BEAC) Role
Established by Council resolution, BEAC is a volunteer body whose purpose is to provide advice to City
Council on environmental planning, policy and sustainability matters to promote the protection,
enhancement and management of the City’s natural and built environment. The committee is tasked
with engaging, assisting and educating the community to advance the goals and actions of the City’s
Environmental Master Plan. To that end and following the current committee’s establishment, a work
plan was submitted to and approved by Council in 2015; this report summarizes the actions undertaken
in 2016.
Work Plan BEAC fulfilled its 2016 work plan commitment by conceiving a community outreach plan to get
Brampton residents and employees engaged with the City’s Grow Green Environmental Master Plan.
The four plan elements include:
compiling an on-line database of organizations and community groups involved in
environmental actions, events and activities in Brampton,
forming a Grow Green Network focused on environmental community outreach consisting of
groups, individuals and organizations,
the creation of an Eco-Pledge campaign to engage Brampton residents and employees in eco-
friendly actions,
the creation of an outline for an interactive web-site that would act as the primary
communication vehicle to support both the network and the Eco-pledge campaign.
The environmental database of over 100 groups and organizations was compiled in the spring/summer
of 2016 and the launch plan, for both the Network and the Eco-Pledge campaign, was developed in the
late summer and early fall. In late summer and early fall BEAC members, working with City staff, created
a flyer, t-shirt logo, posters and other marketing materials to support their community outreach
activities.
In September, BEAC created an on-line survey to connect to prospective organizations, to learn more
about their activities and to invite them to participate in the Grow Green Network. Plans were laid for a
Network launch event to be held early in 2017.
Throughout the fall BEAC developed specifications for the web-site design and engaged City staff and
City IT in the web-site implementation.
