ENVIRONMENTENVIRONMENT

Page 2: Environment

• Environment means the surroundings. Land, water, air, plants, animals and other things that are surrounding us constitute our environment. Man and environment are closely related with each other.

Page 3: Environment

• Over the last few centuries, the relation of man with its surroundings has changed with industrialization. Our activities have caused harm to the environment.

Page 4: Environment

This results in • drought • floods• global warming• reduction in fertility of soil • Pollution of water, air, soil etc.• garbage getting piled up etc.

Page 5: Environment

• It is our responsibility to take care of our environment and preserve it. Otherwise, we and our next generations will have to face the consequences.

Page 6: Environment

• Here are a few steps we all can take to protect our environment……..

Page 8: Environment

• Do not waste paper

Page 9: Environment

Some facts about paper usage are….• The average family uses 6 trees worth of paper each

year. • Paper produced from raw material uses far more energy

and water than if we recycle our unwanted paper.• For every tonne of paper used for recycling 17 trees are

spared. • It takes 7 days for a recycled newspaper to come back

as a newspaper again. • 11 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions were

avoided by recycling paper and cardboard in 2008, the equivalent of taking around 3½ million cars off the road.

• Say NO To Plastic Bags

Page 11: Environment

Here are easy some ways to use less plastic…• Avoid buying items packaged in plastic. • Use cloth shopping bags. • Skip bottled water and carry your own water• Say, “No straw, please!” • If you must use disposable tableware, get the

compostable kind. Using a patravali is more environment friendly.

Page 12: Environment

• Segregation of waste

Page 13: Environment

• Household waste should be separated daily into different bags for the different categories of waste such as wet and dry waste, which should be disposed off separately.

• Wet waste, which consists of leftover foodstuff, vegetable peels, etc., should be put in a compost pit and the compost could be used as manure in the garden.

• Dry waste consisting of cans, aluminium foils, plastics, metal, glass, and paper could be recycled.

• If we do not dispose of the waste in a more systematic manner, more than 1400 sq. km of land, which is the size of the city of Delhi, would be required in the country by the year 2047 to dispose of it.
