De repente se oyó un gran ruido que venía del cielo, como cuando sopla un viento fuerte, que resonó por toda la casa donde se encontraban. Entonces aparecieron lenguas de fuego, que se distribuyeron y se posaron sobre ellos; se llenaron todos del Espíritu Santo y empezaron a hablar en otros idiomas, según el Espíritu los inducía a expresarse. En esos días había en Jerusalén judíos devotos, venidos de todas partes del mundo. Al oír el ruido, acudieron en masa y quedaron desconcertados, por-que cada uno los oía hablar en su propio idioma. Atónitos y lle-nos de admiración, preguntaban: “¿No son galileos, todos estos que están hablando? ¿Cómo, pues, los oímos hablar en nuestra lengua nativa? Entre nosotros hay medos, partos y elamitas; otros vivimos en Mesopotamia, Judea, Capadocia, en el Ponto y en Asia, en Frigia y en Panfilia, en Egipto o en la zona de Libia que limita con Cirene. Algunos somos visitantes, venidos de Ro-ma, judíos y prosélitos; también hay cretenses y árabes. Y sin embargo, cada quien los oye hablar de las maravillas de Dios en su propia lengua”. Segunda Lectura: Romanos 8: 8-17 Hermanos: Los que viven en forma desordenada y egoísta no pueden agradar a Dios. Pero ustedes no llevan esa clase de vida, sino una vida conforme al Espíritu, puesto que el Espíritu de Dios habita verdaderamente en ustedes. Quien no tiene el Espíritu de Cristo, no es de Cristo. En cambio, si Cristo vive en ustedes, aun-que su cuerpo siga sujeto a la muerte a causa del pecado, su espíritu vive a causa de la actividad salvadora de Dios. Si el Espíri-tu del Padre, que resucitó a Jesús de entre los muertos, habita en ustedes, entonces el Padre, que resucitó a Jesús de entre los muertos, también les dará vida a sus cuerpos mortales, por obra de su Espíritu, que habita en ustedes. A veces las palabras se vacían de tanto usarlas mal. A veces son las acciones las que, a fuerza de repetirlas, se convierten en rutinarias y aburridas. Parece como si a todo se le hubiera escapado el alma, el espíritu. En otros momentos, es todo lo contrario. De pronto una palabra suena totalmente nueva, llena de sentido; al-go la anima y es normalmente una rela-ción especial con alguien. Las palabras no suenan igual en labios de las perso-nas que significan algo para nosotros que en las que nos son indiferentes. Algo así ocurre en Pentecostés. Cuando el Espíritu revela toda la fuerza del amor de Dios, es como si nunca se hubieran escuchado palabras como amor, salva-ción, don. El Espíritu llena de fuerza no solo las palabras, que cada uno com-prende en su propio idioma, sino toda la vida. El Espíritu llena de fuego y de valentía a quienes habían estado asustados. Los discípulos del Señor no vieron al Espíritu sino en una experiencia como de vien-to y lenguas de fuego. En nuestras comunidades, cuando el Espíritu de verdad está presente, no solo se trata de palabras, gestos her-mosos o sentimientos fuertes, sino que todo eso se tra-ducirá en un lenguaje de obras de amor para los de-más. Se traducirá en la fuerza de un amor que sobre-pasa toda dificultad y dolor, y llena de fuerza y valen-tía. No será cosa de un momento, sino que tendrá los frutos del Espíritu: amor, bondad, mansedumbre, forta-leza, paciencia, perseverancia y, sobre todo, alegría.

Para la Reflexión ¿Suenan igual las palabras cuando las pronuncian per-sonas muy significativas para mí? ¿Se puede decir que en mi corazón, en mi familia y en mi comunidad habita el Espíritu de la paz, la paciencia, la bondad, la man-sedumbre y la alegría?

THE POWER OF THE SPIRIT

Words can often be empty because they are wrongly used. Sometimes, repetition makes actions seem rou-tine and boring. It’s as if the soul, or spirit, has escaped from everything. It can also be the complete opposite. All of a sudden a word sounds completely new, filled with meaning. Something inspires this; usually it’s a spe-

cial relationship with the person who says them. Words don’t sound the same when they come from the lips of people important to us, than when they come from those we consider indifferent. Something similar happens in Pentecost. When the Spirit reveals all the power in the love of God, it’s as if we never heard such words before as love, salvation, and gift. The Spirit not only filled words with power so everyone understood in their own language, but it filled their life.

The Spirit fills with fire and courage those who previously were in fear. The Lord’s disciples did not see the Spirit, but felt the wind and tongues of fire. In our community, when the Spirit of truth is present, it is not just about words, kind gestures, or strong feelings. Instead everything translates into a language made from acts of love toward others. It translates into the power of a love that overcomes all difficulties and pain, and is fills us with strength and courage. This is not fleet-ing and bear the fruits from the Spirit: love, kindness, meekness, fortitude, patience, perseverance, and, above all else, joy. For Reflection Do words sound the same when they are spoken by people who are important to me? Can it be said that the Spirit of peace, patience, kindness, and joy dwell in my heart, in my family and community?

Como Determinar la Postura del Candidato

Los Candidatos del mañana para cargos políticos importantes saldrán principalmente de los candida-tos actual4es de cargos menores. Por lo tanto es aconsejable aplicar normas comparables a los candi-datos locales. Debemos tratar de elegir para cargos menores a candidatos que apoyen la moral cristiana para que tengan una mayor aptitud de ser elegidos para cargos mas importantes en los cuales su postu-ra moral pueda entrar en juego.

Como Determinar la Postura del Candidato 1. Mientras mas importante sea el cargo mas fácil será. Los miembros del Congreso y los senadores, por ejemplo, han tratado estos temas en numerosas oportunidades por lo que ya han tomado postura. Por lo general, se puede decir lo mismo a nivel estatal. En cualquie-ra de los casos, conocer la postura de un candidato puede ser tan fácil como leer artículos de periódico o revista, revi-sar sus posturas en Internet, o estudiar cualquiera de las numerosas encuesta impresas sobre los candidatos distribui-das en época electoral.

2. Por lo general resulta mas difícil conocer las posturas de los candidatos que se postulan a cargos locales ya que po-cos de ellos tienen la oportunidad de considerar leyes sobre temas como el aborto, la clonación y la santidad del matri-monio.

How to Determine a Candidate’s Position

Tomorrow’s candidates for higher offices will come mainly from today’s candidates for lower offices. It is therefore prudent to apply compara-ble standards to local candidates. One should seek to elect to lower offices candidates who support Christian morality so that they will have a greater ability to be elected to higher offices where their moral stances may come directly into play.

How to Determine a Candidate’s Position 1. The higher the office, the easier this will be. Congressional representatives and senators, for example, have repeatedly seen these issues

come before them and so have taken positions on them. Often the same can be said at the state level. In either case, learning a candidate’s position can be as easy as reading newspaper or magazine articles, looking up his/her views on the Internet, or studying one of the many printed candidate surveys that are distributed at election time. 2. It is often more difficult to learn the views of candidates for local offices, because few of them have an opportunity to consider legislation on such things as abortion, cloning, and the sanctity of marriage. But these candidates, being local, can often be contacted directly or have local cam-paign offices that will explain their positions.

Announcing the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Fran-cis challenged us to proclaim God’s mercy “to eve-ryone without exception . . . again and again, with new enthusiasm and renewed pastoral ac-tion” (Misericordiae Vultus, 12). Pentecost pro-

claims that the door locked for fifty days is thrown open at last. No longer closed in on itself, the communi-ty speaks to crowds from different backgrounds, dis-tant lands, exotic languages. Everyone hears their na-tive language. The Spirit does not restore Babel’s uni-formity, but forges unity-in-diversity of language, race, nationality—embracing all without exception. During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pentecost’s Spirit summons us afresh from mediocrity and isolation to share God’s mercy with the world. “This is our mission!” Francis exclaims. We are “given the gift of the ‘tongue’ of the Gospel and the ‘fire’ of the Holy Spirit, so that while we proclaim Jesus risen, living and present in our midst, we may warm . . . the heart of the peoples, drawing near to Him, the way, the truth, and the life” (Regina Coeli ad-dress, Pentecost Sunday, May 24, 2015) .

Séptimo Domingo de Pascua “Solemnidad de Pentecostés”

Al anunciar el Año Jubilar de la Misericordia el Papa Fran-cisco nos desafía a proclamar la misericordia de Dios “a todos, sin excluir ninguno . . . una vez más con nuevo entusiasmo y con una renovada acción pastoral” Miseri-cordiae Vultus, 12). Pentecostés proclama que la puerta cerrada por cincuenta días finalmente se abre. No más encie-rro en sí misma, la comunidad habla a las multitudes con diferentes orígenes, de tierras lejanas, exóticos lugares. Ca-da uno los escucha en sus leguas nativas. El Espíritu no res-taura la uniformidad de Babel, pero fragua la unidad en la diversidad del idioma, de la raza, de la nacionalidad, inclu-yendo a todos sin excepción. Durante este Año Jubilar de la Misericordia, el Espíritu de Pentecostés nos convoca de nue-vo desde la mediocridad y la soledad para compartir la mise-ricordia de Dios con el mundo. “¡Esta es nuestra misión!” lo dice el Papa Francisco. “Se nos dio el don del ‘idioma’ del Evangelio y el ‘fuego’ del Espíritu Santo, para proclamar a Jesús resucitado, vivo y presente en medio de nosotros y para alentar los corazones de las personas, acercándolas a Jesús, el Camino, la Verdad y la Vida” (Rezo del Regina Coeli, Domingo de Pentecostés, 24 de mayo de 2015) .

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity; he is God. He makes holy the souls of the just by His presence. But a Spirit is not present in the sense of taking up space. We say a Spirit is present wherever it causes an effect. In the soul, the Holy Spirit transforms it, making it basically capable of

taking in, after death, the infinite streams of knowledge and love that flow within the Holy Trinity. Thus we

are really "sharers in the divine nature" (2 Pe-ter 1:4). This is a dignity so great that any earthly honor is insignificant beside it.

He comes with his Seven Gifts: understand-ing, wisdom, knowledge, counsel, piety,

fortitude, and fear of the Lord. These make the soul capable of taking in the special lights and

inspirations He sends in a much higher way than what is had in ordinary graces. We do not notice much of any effects from these Gifts until we have advanced rather far in the spiritual life, for great docility and purity of heart are needed.

On Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came down visibly on the Apos-tles. He gave them the power to speak in strange tongues to the crowds that came to Jerusalem for that Feast. He also transformed them, from selfish and timid men into giants of courage and faith.

But it is also for us that the Holy Spirit has come. The Holy Spirit came to remain with the Church forever. This is the promise of Jesus Himself. He dwells in the Church perma-nently and unfailingly, performing in it without ceasing, His action of life-giving and sanctification. He establishes the Church infallibly in the truth. It is He who makes the Church blossom forth with a marvelous supernatural fruitfulness, for He brings to life and full fruition in Virgins, Martyrs, Confes-sors, those heroic virtues which are one of the marks of true sanctity.

It is our job to honor the Holy Spirit, love him for being our God and allow him to guide our life. We must seek his light and strength constantly, to live a holy life and save our soul.

El Espíritu Santo, la tercera persona de la Santísima Trinidad, es Dios. Verdadero Dios como lo son el Padre y el Hijo. Es el Amor del Padre y el Hijo. Cristo prometió que este Espíritu de Verdad iba a venir y moraría dentro de nosotros. "Yo rogaré al Padre y les dará otro Intercesor que permanecerá siempre con ustedes. Este es el Espíritu de Verdad que el mundo no puede recibir porque no lo ve ni lo conoce. Pero ustedes saben que él permanece con ustedes, y estará en ustedes" (Jn 14, 16-17)

El Espíritu Santo vino el día de Pentecostés y nunca se ausentará. Cincuenta días después de la Pascua, el Domingo de Pentecostés, los Apóstoles fueron transformados de hombres débiles y tímidos en valientes proclamadores de la fe; los necesitaba Cristo para difundir su Evangelio por el mundo.

El Espíritu Santo está presente de modo especial en la Iglesia, comunidad de quienes creen en Cristo como el Señor. Ayuda a su iglesia a que continúe la obra de Cristo en el mundo. Su presencia da gracia a los fieles para unirse más a Dios y entre sí en amor sincero, cumpliendo sus deberes con Dios y los demás. La gracia y vida divina que prodiga hacen a la Iglesia ser mucho más grata a Dios; la hace crecer con el poder del Evangelio; la renueva con sus dones y la lleva a unión perfecta con Jesús.

El Espíritu Santo guía al Papa, a los obispos y a los presbíteros de la Iglesia en su tarea de enseñar la doctrina cristiana, dirigir almas y dar al pueblo la gracia de Dios por medio de los Sacra-mentos. Orienta toda la obra de Cristo en la Iglesia: solicitud por los enfermos, enseñar a los niños, preparación de la juven-tud, consolar a los afligidos, socorrer a los necesitados.

Es nuestro deber honrar al Espíritu Santo amándole por ser nuestro Dios y dejarnos dócilmente guiar por Él en nuestras vidas. Conscientes de que el Espíritu Santo esta siempre con nosotros, mientras vivamos en estado de gracia santificante, debemos pedirle con frecuencia la luz y fortaleza necesarias para llevar una vida santa y salvar nuestra alma.
