The Image of God in Enthronement Psalms
He rules over the created order
Monarch over the nation of Israel
Kingship has both national and cosmic dimensions
A divine warrior who fights as the champion of his people

Revelation 21 on national and cosmic
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth,
for the first heaven and the first earth had
passed away, and the sea was no
more. 2And I saw the holy city, new
Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven
from God, prepared as a bride adorned for
her husband.
Revelation 21 on national and cosmic
3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
“Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He
will dwell with them, and they will be his
people, and God himself will be with them as their
God. 4He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
and death shall be no more, neither shall there be
mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the
former things have passed away.”

Luke 11 on God as Warrior for us
20 But if it is by the finger of God that I cast out demons,
then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 21When
a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his
goods are safe; 22but when one stronger than he
attacks him and overcomes him, he takes away
his armor in which he trusted and divides his
spoil. 23Whoever is not with me is against me, and
whoever does not gather with me scatters.

Isaiah 52 on YHWH MaLak
6 Therefore my people shall know my name. Therefore in that day they shall know that it is I who speak; here I am.”
7How beautiful upon the mountains
are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness,
who publishes salvation,
who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
Later in Isaiah 52 – Messianic Enthronement
13 Behold, my servant shall act wisely;
he shall be high and lifted up,and shall be exalted.
14As many were astonished at you—his appearance was so marred, beyond human
semblance, and his form beyond that of the children of mankind—
15 so shall he sprinkle many nations.Kings shall shut their mouths because of him,
for that which has not been told them they see,and that which they have not heard they understand.

Is the criticism founded?
Some scholars point out that these Psalms seem to be
saying that God is being installed as king now.
Meaning he wasn’t King before. Or there was a
moment that he wasn’t.
And they similarities with the Pagan annual festivals
The God of the plants dies in the fall and is reborn in the
spring, and we have festivals to mark these recurring
moments.

have worked salvation for him.2 The LORD has made known his salvation;
he has revealed his righteousness in the
sight of the nations.

3He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness
to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God.

Psalm 98 - conclusion
The Modern Christian may appropriately sing psalm 98
remembering Christ salvation in his past, his present
ruling and guiding of his life and Christs future role as
judge. Although this psalm is rotted in the faith of
ancient Israel, its content extends into the future to
draw together all humans and all of the created order
to anticipate the compete fulfillment of the reign of
YHWH. - Daniel J Estes

Psalm 98 - conclusion
The psalms of the final victory of God and of his Messiah lead us in praise, thanksgiving, and
petition to the end of all things, when all the world will give God the honor, when the redeemed people of God will reign with him eternally, when the powers of evil will fall and God alone will rule. – Dietrich Bonhoeffer
