Mobile Computing Trends to Watch in 2014

1. Mobile Apps Disrupt Enterprise SW: The shift

towards enterprise mobile apps that cost much less than

traditional enterprise software will disrupt the B2B

software industry.

2. New Architecture Required: IDC says

“Enterprise business mobility will require 60% of CIOs

by 2017 to support an agile architecture with next-

generation mobile applications” (link).

3. Growth in BYO: The growth of BYO accelerates as

Consumerization drives not only BYOD, but other

related BYOs (personal cloud, security/identity

management, Wearables, app stores, Windows 8, etc.).

4. BYO Management: Growth in BYO exacerbates the

challenges of device management , information security

and workspace delivery. IT needs to stay on top with

new policies, programs and requirement gathering.

5. Mobile Collaboration: Mobile is changing how

people collaborate, communicate, create/distribute

content and use social software. The Social Business

trend drives need for new mobile collaboration

capability.

5 Mobile Computing: A 2014 HorizonWatching Trend Report (Summary) Jan 2014

“Mobile technologies are expected to

remain one of the top three CIO priorities

through 2016, and will continue to be a

disruptive phenomenon. IT leaders must

identify the key mobile technologies that

will have the broadest impact and new

ways to exploit mobile potential.” –

6. Mobile SEO Marketing: As searching by voice becomes

more popular businesses will need think of new ways users

might search to find their websites.

demand enterprise versions of Watson/Siri for mobile search and

productivity apps. Expect this capability to eventually be

embedded in all mobile apps

8. Mobile Wallets: Retail industry has begun the shift to

allowing consumers to pay with their phones. Enterprises will

follow that trend, allowing employees to pay corporate expenses

via mobile.

9. Increased Need for Speed: Big data, analytics, social, and

mobile video will drive demand for faster mobile networks.

Expect carriers to begin to provide faster networks that can

handle this demand.

and visualization/dashboard solutions will be developed and

deployed for remote and mobile workers.

11.Mobile Security: Mobile security platform weaknesses are

giving rise to new threats. In 2014 hackers/criminals will

increasingly target mobile email, apps, platforms, wallets, and

app stores. Developers must develop security measures to

secure the enterprise. 6 Mobile Computing: A 2014 HorizonWatching Trend Report (Summary) Jan 2014
