HOW TO MAP A NETWORK DRIVE TO A SHAREPOINT SITE FOR FILE MANAGEMENT
This documentation outlines how to map a network drive to an existing SharePoint Site document library so documents can be saved directly to the site through the mapped drive on your computer.
1. Open Internet Explorer and navigate to the SharePoint site you want to create a shortcut to. For example:
http://us.project.umn.edu/PWA/US%20Project%20Management%20Training/default.aspx
2. Click on the Project Documents link in the left navigation;
3. Click on the Library tab in the top navigation;
4. Click on the Open with Explorer button;

7. Now a drive has been automatically mapped to this location. To access the drive, go to your computers
Start menu and My Network Places;
8. In the My Network Places box, you will see a drive mapped to the URL that was just accessed. In this
example it was http://us.project.umn.edu/PWA/US%20Project%20Management%20Training/

11. Double-click on the new name of the drive to test the location;
12. An Explorer window will open displaying the documents and folders associated with this SharePoint site;
Now you can drag and drop documents and folders directly from another location, or you can save documents
directly to this location.
NOTE: DO NOT DELETE THE FOLDER TITLED “FORMS”. THIS IS A SYSTEM FOLDER AND NEEDS TO BE HERE IN ORDER FOR THE SHAREPOINT SITE TO FUNCTION. DELETING THIS FOLDER WILL CORRUPT YOUR SHAREPOINT SITE AND IT WILL NOT BE ACCESSIBLE BY ANY USERS.
