Message from MHOA PresidentRegis Thorton

We would like to thank all the people who helped make our Fourth Of July celebration a big success. From the Flag Raising, to the Golf Cart Parade, to the Fourth of July Feast; it took a lot of volunteers to make it happen. Many may not realize the planning, hard work and physical work that goes into making a great event as we just had to become picture perfect. When I say “picture perfect,” I mean that it was the many artists (volunteers) who added the many colors onto this painting (event) creating the perfect Masterpiece. So, we thank all of you again, for a great Independence Day. This is what makes Plantation Village a great community, its people working together to create great results. I would like to remind everyone that we are still in Hurri-cane Season. Please take time out to read your Hurricane Packet; there is a lot of helpful info in it. The July issue of the PV “The Resident’s Voice” included a Hurricane Prepared-ness Checklist. We are in our HOT summer season, so please make sure you drink plenty of fluids during these months. To join in on the summer fun, remember Thursdays at 6:30pm Shuf-fleboard and Saturdays at 6:30pm Bocce Ball. Stay fit and stay healthy.

Keep Cool this summer..... with cool healthy treats!

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD: REMEMBER TO TUNE IN TO CHANNEL 732 ON YOUR TV FOR UPDATES.

PV MessagesMessage from PV Manager

Merry SinacoreAugust 2019

It is a busy summer, we have a lot of new homes coming into the community. They seem to be all coming in at the same time. It has been unbelievable how the new homes look - no longer a trailer, now they look like a regular home and they are the same size. The one that stands out now is 3 Harvest. It looks like a southern home with a big veranda where you sit and watch the world go by. If you get a chance as you are riding in the Golf Cart take a look at all the new homes. Are you ready for the Hurricane and Storm season? Ev-eryone must clear their driveways of things that can fly. We will be going around to see if there is anything dangerous and asking you to move things out of the way. I know most everyone has 2 vehicles. It is hard to keep moving them back and forth, but we live in a community that only accommodates straight line parking. I have the same issue where I live and I know it is a pain, but we knew this before so we need to go according to the rules. Please make sure your vehicle is not on your lawn - whether that is grass or stones or artificial turf. We are a community so we want to keep looking good. It is that time when we have a lot of visitors. Remember they need to abide by our rules and regulations. You will be responsible for your guests. You will see in the next couple of weeks new palm trees getting planted. We are starting to put new palms around the community. We are going to continue to plant so if you do not get one planted this time it will happen in the future. Here is a picture of one of the new homes that came in on July 11, 2019. They took it through the front gates and had only 3 inches on either side to get the home in the community. It was amazing to watch.

Message from Co-Op President Frank Fields

Another month has gone by and it has been a hot one. I hope everyone stays hydrated and stays in the shade when possible. Plantation Village continues to improve as we have had several more new homes delivered. The new residents are anxious to move in and be a part of our community. I am sure that by now you have heard some news about Plantation Village and someone wanting to purchase it. There will be a lot of questions from residents and I hope they will direct them to me or another board member and not get mixed up in rumors. On a different note, the 4th of July event was awesome as usual. The volunteers, cooks and servers did a great job again. The Dearings again came up with a bunch of prizes for everyone to take a chance on winning. Even our manag-er won, 4 times. I hope everyone continues to enjoy living in PV and as always look out for your neighbor.

Are You Ready For A Hurricane Hopefully you have a plan and are ready with supplies for a tropical storm but are you ready to evacuate if need be? This month we have included some reminders of what you need if you have to go to a shelter. What you bring will make your stay more comfortable. We still have some Disaster Planning Guides if you did not receive one from your block captain. Please remember to let the office know if you are leaving on a vacation during this time so we know you are gone.

EVACuATION REMINDERS 1. Evacuation procedures are simple. The checklist below

will show what steps to take when preparing for a possi-ble hurricane evacuation. Manatee County residents are encouraged to stay with friends, family members or in hotels / motels located outside the predicted flooding areas or surge zones. If these options aren’t available, you can use Manatee County shelters as a last resort.

2. You DO NOT have an assigned shelter for your area! Any open shelter near your home will accept you as a refugee from the storm and assist you and your family. Manatee County shelters are opened depending on the direction and size of the storm. This gives the Manatee County Emergency Management team the flexibility to protect as many people as possible.

3. Remember that Manatee County shelter facilities are austere at best and your comfort will depend on what you can carry. Lawn chairs, cots and small folding tables are a good idea.

4. Obey the instructions of local authorities. Travel light, but carry essential and valuables.

5. Load your hurricane survival kit and other supplies in your vehicle.

6. Do not leave your pets in your home or release them to roam and fend for them selves. Pets are welcome in pet friendly shelters. Pets must arrive with a carrier or cage. Cages will not be available on site. Pets must remain in carrier except at scheduled exercise and potty break times when the weather is safe to go outside. Owners must provide pet food, pet supplies as needed, and current certification with rabies vaccination.

7. People who are pre-registered as a Special Needs Pro-gram client must be ready to evacuate, with their rec-ommended evacuation kit, when called.

People who should have registered as a Special Needs client, but have not, need to contact friends or family members for transportation to the Assisted Care Shelter or a hospital. If this is not possible contact Manatee County Emergency Management at 941-748-4501 for assistance.

Hurricane Evacuation Checklists It is recommended for families to have as A MINIMUM 5 DAYS WORTH OF SUPPLIES in your hurricane survival kit, as well as other items for use at a shelter and/or upon return to your home. These are recommended steps STEP 1: Ensure your vehicle has a full tank of gasoline. Check

tire pressure and inspect fluid levels. STEP 2: Obtain cash rolls of quarters and small bills for use

in vending machines. Remember that most vendors will not accept checks or credit cards after a hurricane.

STEP 3: Pack non-perishable food and water: a. Items that require no cooking. b. Are ready-to-eat. c. Include a can opener and plastic or disposable utensils. d. Include toiletries and enough personal hygiene sup-

plies for two weeks. STEP 4: Pack important documents and papers: a. Birth/Marriage Certificates. b. Passports/Visas. c. Wills and Power Of Attorney. d. Computer Disks with valuable information and/or

System Disks. e. Video tape of household goods and of the interior/

exterior of the house. f. Pet vaccination documentation g. Personal phone/address book h. Medications STEP 5: Pack Clothing, Bedding, and Bathing Supplies: a. Pants, Shirts, Underwear, Socks, Etc. b. Pillows, Sheets and Blankets. c. Towels and Face cloths. STEP 6: Inspect the house for loose external items: a. Trash Cans and Receptacles. b. Lawn and Patio Tables/Chairs. c. Toys (Swing Sets, Riding Toys, Etc.). d. Secure Television Antenna or Satellite Dish. e. Unplug Appliances (Televisions, Stereos, Computers,

Etc.). f. Turn Off Gas and Electricity to The House.

WHAT TO BRING TO THE SHELTER In addition to your emergency supplies (food, water, medicine, flashlights, batteries, first aid kit, etc.), the follow-ing are good items to bring with you if you must evacuate to a shelter: · Pillows, blankets, sleeping bags or air mattresses · Extra clothing, shoes, eyeglasses, hearing aids (and bat-

teries), etc. · Personal toiletries, towels · Folding chairs, lawn chairs or cots Personal hygiene items

(toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.) · Quiet games, books, playing cards and favorite toys for

children

· Important papers and irreplaceable keepsakes (driver’s license, special medical information, insurance policies and property inventories, photographs)

PET SHELTER REquIREMENTS Pet sheltering requirements and rules are important during disaster situations. Your cooperation in making a pet friendly shelter environment enjoyable is appreciated. · Pet(s) must arrive with a carrier or cage. Cages will not be

available on site. · Pet(s) must remain in carrier (except at scheduled exercise

times). · Owners must provide pet food and other pet supplies as

needed. · Owners must provide certification that pet(s) are current

with rabies vaccination · Owners will not permit other shelter occupants to handle

or approach pet(s). · Owners are responsible for the care, feeding and handling

of their own pet(s). Pet Survival Kit for Pet-Friendly Shelters:

· Proper ID collar and rabies license tag · Carrier or cage · Water and food bowls · Medications · Food supply to last about three days · Special care instructions · Newspapers/plastic bags for waste disposal · Toys and comfort items · Muzzles, if necessary · First aid supplies · Manual can opener · Proper ID on all belongings

Activities in Rear View

I would like to say THANK YOU to all the people who helped with our PV July 4th celebration. The day began with an impressive flag raising ceremony presented by Regis, followed by the golf cart parade with a couple of bicyclists at the end and then our lunch at noon. Thanks to the cooks, the decorators, the ticket sellers, the dessert makers, the servers, the people who helped set up and take down, the kitchen helpers and the list goes on and on. We always feel as though we do a great job, and today while Frank and I were at the serving line we had people from the other two parks who attended our 4th tell us that we have the best celebration of all three parks. So again, thanks to all of you who make PV the best !!
