1. About the EMSB
The English Montreal School Board (EMSB) is the largest English public school board in Quebec. There are 11 adult and
vocational centers. The Adult Education and Vocational Services (AEVS) Department of the EMSB offers a wide variety of
vocational programs to students who have completed the required prerequisites at the Secondary III or IV level or who have
obtained a high school leaving certificate, the Diploma of Secondary Studies (DES) such as: Accounting, Professional Sales,
Computerized Secretarial Studies - Secretarial Studies - Legal, Hotel Reception, Travel Careers, Starting a Business,
Electrolysis, Hairdressing, Automobile Mechanics, Sale of Mechanical Parts and Accessories, Aesthetics, Cabinet Making,
Furniture Finishing, Industrial Drafting (CAD), Production Equipment Operation, Machining Technics, Numerical Control Machine
Tool Operation, Desktop Publishing (Computer Graphics Techniques), Printing, Automated Systems Electromechanics, Food
and Beverage Services, Professional Cooking and Welding and Fitting.
1.1 Shadd Business Centre (SBC)
The Shadd Business Centre (SBC) has a very professional staff that strives to train our students to meet the needs of today's
office environment. At Shadd, students acquire extensive skills using the latest computer applications and accounting techniques
to prepare them for success in the 21st Century. After completing the year-long program, students obtain a Vocational Diploma in
Accounting or Secretarial Studies.
1.2 John F. Kennedy Business Centre (JFK)
The JFK Business Centre opened in 1987 with 60 students and we have grown to over 600 full and part-time students. Our
success is reflected in the excellent performance of our graduates in the business community.
1.3 Rosemount Technology Centre (RTC)
Rosemount Technology Centre is one of the largest English technical career training centres in Quebec. RTC is a modern facility
with up-to-date technological equipment and comprehensive student services.
RTC offers full-time career programs. The skills, training and technical knowledge acquired in these programs are in great
demand in business and industry throughout North America. The courses are based on a modular system in which each student
learns and progresses in a systematic manner.
An important component of each program is the work-study placement in which the students have the opportunity to practice the
skills they have learned in an actual work setting. The work-study assignment is individually tailored to meet the needs and
aspirations of students. The contacts and experiences in both work-study and cooperative programs frequently lead to
permanent employment.
1.4 Laurier Macdonald Vocational Centre
Laurier Macdonald Vocational Centre offers programs in Beauty Care and Automobile Mechanics.

5. Admission Requirements
5.1 Candidates:
Persons holding a Secondary School Diploma or its recognized equivalent.
OR
Persons who are at least 16 years of age on September 30 of the school year in which their training is to begin and have
earned the Secondary IV credits in language of instruction, second language and mathematics in the programs of study
established by the Minister, or have been granted recognition of equivalent learning.
OR
Persons who are at least 18 years of age upon entry into the program and have the following functional prerequisites: the
successful completion of the General Development Test and the course in language of instruction English, mathematics, or
recognition of equivalent learning.
OR
Persons having earned Secondary III credits in language of instruction, second language and mathematics in the programs of
study established by the Minister and who will continue their general education courses concurrently with their vocational
training in order to obtain the credits they are missing among the following: Secondary IV language of instruction, second
language and mathematics in the programs of study established by the Minister.
5.2 English Fluency: The international applicants are not required to provide TOEFL and IELTS scores, however, they must have basic English skills
which are equivalent to the local high school graduates’ English fluency.

7. Enrollment Time
7.1 Individuals: Depending on the specific program’s availability and following the EMSB Agenda.
7.2 Group: Following the group ‘s timetable.
8. How to Apply (Steps in Applying)
The duration of the application procedure is 3 to 4 months approximately.
8.1 Complete the application form on computer, print and sign the completed form, scan and e-mail it to [email protected]
(the Visa Service - China Office) and [email protected] (the EMSB International Students Office Recruitment
Representative in Canada).
Please Note: All the original forms must be sent together with other required supporting documents to the address ( refer to Item
11.1 Mailling Address. ).
8.2 Pay the following fees to the EMSB:
Application Fee: $ 100 CAD (non-refundable).
Tuition Deposit: $ 1000 CAD (refundable).
8.3 The EMSB will confirm if there is availability in the specific program.
8.4 Obtain the Comparative Evaluation result from Quebec MICC (For vocational training only).
8.5 Obtain the Acceptance Letter and the Required Payment Statement from the EMSB.
8.6 Forward down payment to the EMSB according to the Required Payment Statement; purchase the Quebec’s medical
insurance and then apply for a CAQ from Quebec MICC.
8.7 Apply for a Study Permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
8.8 Begin studies with the EMSB.
