Topic Animals : Old MacDonald Had a Farm
Integrated Skills Reading and Listening
Introduction This lesson focuses on language appreciation. The main
focus of this lesson is getting the pupils to respond to the
song, which is Old MacDonald Had a Farm; using non-
verbal gestures as well as sings the song.
Content Standards 4.1 Pupils will be able to enjoy and appreciate rhymes,
poems and songs.
4.3 Pupils will be able to plan, organize and produce
creative works for enjoyment.
Learning Standards 4.1.2 Able to sing action songs, recite jazz chants and
poem with correct pronunciation, rhythm and intonation.
4.3.1 Able to produce simple creative works with guidance
based on: (a) action songs
4.3.2 Able to take part with guidance in a performance
based on: (a) action songs
Objective By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to perform the
song learnt.

Pupils read the lyrics
together. They sing the
songs by making the
correct animal sounds.
1) The teacher guides the
pupils to read the lyrics first
with correct pronunciation
and intonation.
2) The teacher displays the
lyrics (with blanks) in front of
the class. Have pupils guess
the missing words.
2) Pupils read the full lyrics
and then sing the song aswell as making the animal
sounds correctly.
