1.0 REPORT

To : Pn. Thanes (Jabatan Bahasa Inggeris)

Title : Choral Speaking

PPISMP Semester 3B was recently organized a Choral Speaking at Dewan Za

Ba on 1st April 2013.

The objectives of the activity are to involve and motivate students to use English

in carrying out activities. Besides it can enhanced the use of English amongst the

student and improve KBM students in English. Other objective is to enhance students'

self-confidence to communicate in public.

There were 17 people involved in this activity. The entire student will present

material had prepared. The group gets up on a stage and does choral speaking about

something and then gets off the stage. This group will lead by a conductor (like choirs)

whose job is to direct and lead the group. Emotion and voice projection are key to a

successful performance. Some of the student will be solo to say some word and the

other will continue the word and speaking clearly and simultaneous.

We were given a month to practice. The first week, we required looking for a

topic to be presented. The training begins in second week. Training is conducted every

Monday and Friday after our class at afternoon. At the first and second week we train,

everyone bring the paper to memorize the word. We do in our class. The leader says

the word and others will follow. We keep repeated the first and second paragraphs to

make sure everyone say it together (synchronized). Third week is school holidays, so

the last training was held on Sunday, March 31 at 8.00pm until 10.00pm at the hostel

Dato Razali Ismail.

The choral speaking was held in morning assembly on the 1st of April 2013 at

Dewan ZaBa. It starts with speech of students, lecturers and final is choral speaking

performance. Our emcee invited the group to perform. Starting with me as the head of

choral speaking up on stage and introduce our. Then members of the group went on

stage and lined up in a curve. They followed dialogue or text which has been circulated

before. The leader use hand gestures to allow other group members say each phrase in

unison and in accordance with the proper tempo. Lastly all group members include the

leader, bowed and thanked to the audience.

Overall, these activities are very interested and challenged students' minds and

the courage to deal with the public. Many values can be nurtured through these

activities. Among them is the value of cooperation, vigorously into the work, interest to

learn and speak in English and the last is willing to accept criticism and opinions from

others. We are very happy and proud when we get positive comments from the

audience. This includes praise from other classmates, senior students and lecturers

who attended on that day.

Reflection

In order to finish up this task completely, my group and I have faced many

problems. Some of my group member has another commitment to do which that brings

us to postpone our practice. Besides that, time constraints also another problem for us.

This is because, besides this task, we also needed to finish other coursework at the

same time. We had discussed together and find some ways to overcome our problems.

Because of limited time, we postponed our practice to make sure that all members can

present during the practice. We also divide all the works to all group members as we

need to manage our time wisely. All of us struggle to come up with a great choral

speaking team. However we also have our own strength on making this task. The

cooperation between the group members was the important thing during the process of

making this task. All of the group members gave their best cooperation although all of

us have other assignments to do. I feel very grateful because of that. We also will make

sure the discussion among members will be on the right time and not clash with any

other discussion. So, it is easier for us to attend the discussion on time.

Another problem that we need to handle is microphone on the stage a not

enough for us. We already book 3 microphones at Micro room but they only give us 1

microphone. Everyone in the group need to increase the voice to make sure the

audience can hear the word.

We are very happy because our lecturer gives a trust to us for present in front of

the audience even some of us very weak in using the English word. When we do a lot of

practice, our friend become more confident and can pronounce the word correctly. This

task really give us so many benefit. Thank you to our lecturer.

Post mortem

StrengthThe strength of the choral speaking is the students can practice to speak in

English and pronounce the word correct and clearly. Besides, they can increase self-confidence to deal with people around them.

Through choral speaking, we can tell something in interesting way so the listener

can concentrate on what we are trying to convey.

Teamwork aspect applies in this program because it involves all parties. One of

the people makes trouble that means the entire group will face the problem too.

Weaknesses

Students are not given much time to prepare themselves for the presentation

because everyone busy with the assignment and another program such as monthly

assemblies.

Besides, we have one week holiday before present, so we dont have enough

time to training. After holiday, all members forgot some part in the teks.

Suggestion.

The task should give after assignment finish or start. After holiday, we should

have one week or 3 days to practice before present so the performance will be more

interesting and stabile.

Next activity in mind.
