1. Definition of Interpreting Interpreter: one who translates orally for parties
conversing in different languagesInterpret: to act as an interpreter between speakers of

2. Types of Interpreting1. Consecutive Interpreting (CI) 交替传译,即席翻
译,连续传译*has the time to take notes and analyze the
message*Widely used on many occasions, such as press
conferences, welcoming addresses, speeches for banquets and business negotiations.
*Time-consuming* Audience has to listen both the source
language (SL: 来源语 )and the target language (TL: 目的语 )
2. Simultaneous Interpreting (SI) 同声传译 * the SL audience and the TL audience get
the message nearly at the same time* the average interpretation quality of SI is
generally below that of CI* Money-consuming
3. The difference between Interpreting and Translation
Interpreting: works with the spoken word have little time to process the spoken words
Translation: works with the written word have the luxury of being able to think carefully
Only in the context of the sentence do the words mean anything.
