English (incl Reading) This half term, we will be studying Skellig, by David Almond. The children will engage in discussions, which will include raising questions and debating ideas. They will write in a variety of forms including diary entries and letters. To end the unit, the children will write their very own ending for the text. They will also write a persuasive letter linked to their Mayan topic of fair trade. Maths This half term, the children will further their understanding of multiplication and division. They will practise their fluency, problem solving and reasoning in a range of areas such as prime numbers, multiples, factors, cube and square numbers. Dear Parents, We are really looking forward to continuing our learning journey this half term. We will be learning about some fascinating topics and hope that the children will share this exciting learning with you through discussions at home. Miss Jegede, Mr Corrish, Miss Horne and Miss Golding. Topic Focus: Choccywoccydoodah! For our creative topic this half term, the children will learn about the history of chocolate! Through our learning, we will discover the journey of a cocoa bean and find out about the fascinating Mayan civilisation. In Computing, the children will learn about HyperText Markup Language (HTML) in order to create webpages. In Science, we will be learning about life cycles and how humans develop from babies to old-age. We will make our own Mayan masks during our DT lessons, using the technique of relief, and decorate them using Mayan patterns.

Reminders Class 20 will continue their swimming lessons on Fridays at the Waterfront Leisure Centre in Woolwich. Children need to bring in their swimming kit on Fridays. Class 5RA will continue their swimming lessons on Wednesdays at the Waterfront Leisure Centre in Woolwich. Children need to bring in their swimming kit on Wednesdays. Please can all children bring their PE kits with them on Monday and take them home on a Friday. We do not recommend that children under the age of ten walk home alone. However, if you would like them to, you must sign and return a school form. Please ask your child’s teacher for further details. Please ensure your child wears correct school uniform everyday. Home Learning Children will have their homework sent out

electronically with a due date for each

piece of home learning.

Please continue to encourage your child to

read often and record this in their Reading

Champions book. The children will go home

with both their assessed book banded book

and a novel of their choice

Children should continue to practice their

skills on Mathletics, three times weekly for

a minimum of 10 minutes per session. Times

tables is a key focus for Year 5; please

practice these regularly. Spellings must be

practised often. They will go home weekly

and will be tested weekly also.
