Lecturer: Dr. AlcockTime: Monday, 04.00 - 05.30 p.m.Place: Georg-Forster-Str. 3, room 0254The course starts on Monday, Oct. 27, 2014 and ends on Monday, Feb. 9, 2015.

This course is a workshop aimed at developing and practicing the use of English in academic writing and speaking for Doctoral Students and Junior Scholars. Workshop content will depend on the needs and requests of the participants and may include (but is not limited to):

• general rules for writing English academic texts and presentations • questions of style and rhetoric• developing arguments• delivering and discussing presentations

Materials will also depend on students needs and will include writing workshop materials for developing and perfecting general aspects of English academic writing. Also,participants may use material directly related to their thesis work and will have theopportunity to give presentations to develop speaking and communication skills.International and German Doctoral Students as well as Junior Scholars can enroll for this tailor-made English course offered at ISZ / Language Centre.

Attendance Regulations:• You are currently a PhD Student / Junior Scholar at the University of Kassel.• Your English language level is upper intermediate or advanced.

Costs: Course participation is free of charge.

Maximum number of participants: 12
