ATTACHING THE STRAP1. Insert one end of the

strap under theSTRAP POST (9) andpull it through.

2. Thread the longerend of the strapthrough theshorter loop.

3. Pull the strap tight.

LOADING THE BATTERYThis camera uses one 3-volt lithiumKODAK K123LA (or equivalent)Battery that supplies power for allcamera operations.1. Open the BATTERY DOOR (22).

• Before you remove the oldbattery, turn offthe camera.

2. Insert the battery into thechamber as shown.

3. Snap thebatterydoorclosed.

Low-battery indicatorIt is time to replace the battery when— • the BATTERY SYMBOL (33) appears

on the LCD PANEL (14). • none of the indicators appear on

the LCD panel and the SHUTTERBUTTON (1) cannot be released.

Auto power offThis camera automatically turns offafter approximately 4 minutes toconserve the battery life. To awakenthe camera, press the ON/OFFBUTTON (21). • Turn the camera off when the

camera is not going to be used foran extended length of time.

• The backlight automatically turnsoff in approximately 20 secondsor you can manually turn off thelight by repressing the LCDbacklight button.

2. Press the LCD BACKLIGHTBUTTON (19) to turn on the light.

LOADING THE FILMIf in sunlight, turn your back to thesun and load the film in the shade of yourbody. The unique Easyload feature of thiscamera makes film loading simple.1. Slide the FILM-DOOR LATCH (10)

in the direction of the arrow to openthe FILM DOOR (26).

2. Place the film cartridge completelyinto the FILM CHAMBER (25).

3. Insert the film leader into thefilm slot between the FILM-GUIDERAILS (23).

NOTE: You should be able to usethe film just as it comes out ofthe film carton without pullingadditional film out of the cartridge.

4. Rotate the cartridge completely tothe right to lay the film flat.

5. Close the FILM DOOR (26) to startthe automatic film advance.

Using the focus lockThis camera automatically focuses onthe subject that is within the auto-focuscircle of the viewfinder. If you want totake a picture with the subjectpositioned outside the auto-focuscircle, follow these instructions.1. Place the auto-

Tips for better pictures• To avoid blurry pictures, hold your

camera steady by keeping yourelbows close to your body whenyou press the shutter button.

• Stand close enough to your subjectso it fills the viewfinder but notcloser than 1.5 ft (0.5 m).

• Take pictures at the subject’s level.Kneel down to take pictures ofchildren and pets.

• Hold your camera vertically tocapture tall, narrow subjects, suchas a waterfall, skyscraper, or asingle person.

• Add interest to your picture byframing it with a tree branch, awindow, or even the rails of a fence.

• Keep the sun behind you. Thisprovides the best subjectillumination.

• Keep your hand, fingers, or objectsaway from the flash and picture-taking lens.

• Stand at an angle to shiny surfaceslike windows or mirrors to avoidflash reflection and bright spots inyour pictures.

TAKING FLASHPICTURESIn dim light, such as indoors oroutdoors in heavy shade, or on darkovercast days, you need flash. Thiscamera features an automatic flashthat fires when you need it.1. Press the ON/OFF BUTTON (21) to

uncover the LENS (8) and to turn onthe camera.

Using the red-eye reductionSome people’s eyes (and some pets’)can reflect flash with a red glow.To minimize red eye in flash or fill-flashpictures, use the red-eye-reductionfeature.1. Press the ON/OFF BUTTON (21) to

uncover the LENS (8) and to turn onthe camera.

2. Partially depress the SHUTTERBUTTON (1) to turn on theRED-EYE-REDUCTION BULB (2).

3. Have your subject look directly atthe red-eye-reduction bulb.

4. Press the shutter button completelydown to take the picture.

FLASH MODESBesides the auto-flash mode, which isthe default setting of the camera, youcan select flash off, fill flash, ornightview with or without flash.

Flash offWhen you do not want to use theflash, especially indoors where flash isprohibited or when you want to taketwilight scenes, distant subjects thatare beyond the flash range, or tocapture the ambiance of existing light,use the flash-off feature. Attach atripod to the camera TRIPODSOCKET (18) or place the camera onanother firm support, and use high-speed film to ensure the bestexposure possible for takingpictures without flash.

Fill flashWhen bright light indoors or outdoorscomes from behind the subject(backlighting), dark shadows(especially on faces) may occur. Usefill flash to lighten these shadows.

Nightview with flashIn this mode, the camera balances theflash and existing-light exposure sothat you can take beautiful pictures ofpeople at sunset or at night. Use atripod by attaching it to the cameraTRIPOD SOCKET (18) or place thecamera on another firm support, anduse high-speed film because theshutter speed at night is typically slow.

Nightview without flashIn this mode, you can capture thenatural existing-light of city-nightscenes or fireworks at night. Attach atripod to the camera TRIPODSOCKET (18) or place the camera onanother firm support, and use high-speed film because the shutter speedat night is typically slow.

Selecting the flash modes1. Press the ON/OFF BUTTON (21) to

uncover the LENS (8) and to turnon the camera.

2. Repeatedly press the EXPOSURE-MODE BUTTON (17) until the FLASH-OFF SYMBOL (31), FILL-FLASHSYMBOL (30), or NIGHTVIEWSYMBOL (29) with or without flashappears on the LCD PANEL (14).

3. For flash off and fill flashsettings: Hold the camera steadyand gently press the SHUTTERBUTTON (1) completely down totake a picture.For nightview with and withoutflash settings: Press and hold theshutter button completely down forapproximately 4 seconds, withoutlifting your finger, until the shutterautomatically releases to takea picture.• If you remove your finger from

the shutter button before4 seconds, the shutterreleases but in the standardauto-flash mode.

The nightview modes cancel after youtake a picture, whereas the off-flashand fill-flash modes remain selected.To cancel the fill-flash or flash-offmode, turn off the camera by pressingthe ON/OFF BUTTON (21) or select adifferent flash mode by pressing theEXPOSURE-MODE BUTTON (17).

USING THE SELF-TIMERUse this feature when you want toinclude yourself in the picture.1. Attach a tripod to the camera

TRIPOD SOCKET (18) or place it onanother firm support.

2. Press the SELF-TIMER BUTTON (15).

• The SELF-TIMER SYMBOL (34)appears on the LCD PANEL (14).

3. Look through the VIEWFINDEREYEPIECE (11) to compose thepicture and to allow room foryourself in it.

4. Hold the camera steady and gentlypress the SHUTTER BUTTON (1) totake the picture.

5. Position yourself in the composedpicture making sure that you seethe SELF-TIMER BULB (2) completely.F

• The self-timer bulb on the front ofthe camera glows and then blinksduring the 10 secondsself-timer countdown.

• The self-timer automaticallycancels after the shutter releases.

SPECIAL OPTION MODESRepeatedly press the FOCUS-MODEBUTTON (16) to view the specialoption modes and to make yourselection. The special option modesfor portrait and infinity focus let youtailor the camera’s fully automaticoperation for optimal camera settings.

Portrait modeThe portrait selection allows you totake sharp, close-up pictures ofpeople. In this mode, the cameraenters the close-focus zone at anydistance away from the subject.If its distance exceeds 3 ft (0.9 m),the FLASH-READY LIGHT (12) “blinksred” to warn you of incorrect focus.

Infinity-focus modeIn this mode, you can capture sharp,distant scenery for outdoor picture-taking.1. Press the ON/OFF BUTTON (21) to

2. Repeatedly press the FOCUS-MODEBUTTON (16) until the INFINITY-FOCUS SYMBOL (35) appears on theLCD PANEL (14).

• In this mode the camera isautomatically set for flash off, theonly available flash option.

3. Look through the VIEWFINDEREYEPIECE (11) to see your subject.

4. Hold the camera steady and gentlypress the SHUTTER BUTTON (1) totake the picture.

• The selection cancels after youtake the picture.

UNLOADING THE FILMAutomatic rewindThe camera automatically rewinds thefilm into the film cartridge after the lastexposure.1. Wait for the motor to stop

running before you open theFILM DOOR (26).

• The FILM-MOTION INDICATOR (38)blinks and the FRAMECOUNTER (28) counts downas the film is rewinding.

2. Remove the film and reload withfresh KODAK Film.

• The frame counter displays “0.”

Manual rewindIf you don’t want to take pictures onthe entire roll of film, you can rewindthe film manually. But you will not beable to reload the film.1. Gently press the FILM-REWIND

BUTTON (20) to start the automaticfilm rewind.

2. Follow steps 1 and 2 fromAutomatic rewind.

moisture, sudden impact, andexcessive heat.CAUTION: Do not use solvents orharsh or abrasive cleaners on thecamera body.

• If the lens appears dirty, breathe onit to form a mist and wipe thesurface gently with a soft, lintlesscloth or camera lens-cleaningtissue. Never wipe a dry lens.CAUTION: Use solvents orsolutions designed for cleaningcamera lenses. Do not usechemically treated tissues intendedfor cleaning eyeglasses.
