Information about Abortion
It is always very wonderful to have a baby but some people refuse to keep a pregnancy so
they use a practice called abortion. We can define that as a process to interrupt a pregnancy.
Today, in our society many women use this practice. There are many women who are obliged to
use this practice due to health problems. Other people especially the young women use this
practice because they are not ready to have a baby. Is abortion bad? Should abortion be allowed
in the world?
Im interested in the abortion subject because this practice is very dangerous and sometime leads
to death. This topic is very important for our society. Everyday many children and women die by
abortion. This practice is a crime but sometimes some mothers have no choice.
I know that there are many different types of abortion and all these types are dangerous. In order
to state whether or not abortion should be legal, we will first explain the different types of
abortion. Secondly, we will show legality and illegality of abortion and then give our point of
view.
There are many reasons that can lead a woman to rely on abortion. I could say I know a bit more
about abortion because it happened in my family. My sister had to rely on abortion as she was
experiencing hardships when she got pregnant; she had two choices which were either going to
school or staying home to take care of her bay. She chose school and the studies of her ex boy-
friend as if she had the baby the parents of her ex boyfriend would have stopped providing
money for his educational expenses. The decision was difficult for her to make because
everybody knows how hard it would be for a mother to give up on her own baby. From this bad

experience of mine I would like to show how abortion is seen in the 21st century at which rate
its practiced (supported by data from real studies ) and how legal or illegal it is.

Definition of Abortion
An abortion is the premature exist of the product of conception (the fetus, fetal membrane
and placenta) from the uterus. It is the loss of pregnancy and does refer to why that pregnancy
was lost. In other term, abortion is the voluntary or involuntary interruption of pregnant.
Different types of Abortion
In the 21st
century there are many different types of abortion which are the induced abortion and
spontaneous abortion.
In Induced abortions there are two (2) types which are traditional abortion and modern abortion.
Traditional abortion is practiced with leaves, roots, and stems generally in the villages.
There are two (2) types of modern abortion which are medical abortion and surgical abortion.
Medical abortion do not involve surgery, it involves taking drugs mifepristone often called
abortion pill. Mifepristone is provided by health care professionals. It causes the end of the
pregnancy. And then, 24-72 hours later, the woman use misoprostol to cause the uterus to
contract and deport the tissues. The woman must necessarily be followed by a doctor to ensure
that the abortion is a success.
Surgical abortions are medical procedures that must be performed in a medical center or clinic.
The procedure used depends on the stage of pregnancy. Dilation of the uterus is necessary in this
method of abortion; the method of dilation consists of using instruments to increase the size of
the cervix. From the eighth to the ninth week begins the formation of the baby, eyelids begin to
form and hair appears. At this stage of development, abortions are performed with suction, a
small tube which requires a small dilation of the cervix.

By the twelfth first weeks of pregnancy the common method of abortion is the suction aspiration.
Also known as vacuum aspiration or D&A which mean dilation and aspiration. It consists of
inserting a tube through the dilated cervix of the uterus; it removes fetal tissues and empties the
uterus.
Another procedure of abortion is D&C which mean Dilation and curettage which consist of
inserting a curette which cuts the baby into pieces. The pieces are scraped out through the cervix.
Also, there is a method called D&E which mean dilation and evacuation; it is typically
performed between the 13th
to 24th
weeks of pregnancy. This method is similar to D&C, it
consist of involving other instruments along with suction to empty the uterus.
At four months when there is enough fluid around the baby, a saline injection through the
mothers abdomen is made. This product poisons the baby and act also as a corrosive which
burns the outer layer of the baby. The baby dies one hour after the injection.
Medical and surgical abortions show the different types of abortions. However we have also
spontaneous abortions. Some spontaneous abortions are due to genital defects, a rhesus
incompatibility, to chronic diseases such as tuberculosis, AIDS, diabetes, malaria, anemia,
fibroids, cysts, STIs, depreciation, marital problems, and psychological disorders and finally
cause cardio vascular and neurological affection.

How Abortion is working in Cote dIvoire
In Cte dIvoire, although abortion is prohibited, it is clandestinely practiced in hospitals, and in
traditional clinics in villages. According to a study that was carried by a doctor in 2007; out of
100 women, 44 pregnancies where recorded and 42 women had practiced at least one abortion.
Also, in our country, most of abortions are carried by young girls, either for economic and
socials reasons or due to fear of reaction of their parents.
It emerges of this first approach that abortion, which is interruption of pregnant is practiced by
different ways. Curtains use traditional method, or medicinal method and other use a surgical
method. However, should abortion be legal?
Reasons why abortion is legal
Each woman has a right to decide what she wants in her life, she decide what to do with her
body. A Woman is more than a fetus; she has the power to decide. A fetus cannot be
distinguished as us. On this fact, there is a controversy of religious, philosophical, scientific and
medical opinions. The view of the prohibition of abortion was supported during century and
today recognized that each woman should be able to take her decision based on her own
conscience. It is absurd and arrogant to impose a law defining a fetus as a human being, giving it
rights as a woman, said some. Also, I take another situation where abortion is legal; for instance,
if a woman has been raped and gets pregnant she feel dreadful; the trauma of being raped could
break her down and make her depressed and that is only the beginning; she cannot keep the baby
because she doesnt know the father. Even if she keeps the baby she could be a bad mother and
be cruel to him. Abortion is the best option when you are not sure if you want to be mother or

not. It is a mother that has to carry her baby, give birth and feed it; it is her body so it should be
her right to decide.
In other words if a woman is forced to carry an unwanted baby the result of that is an unwanted
child. In our society most of the unwanted children are involved in societys tragic cases, often
brutalized and abandoned. Children need love and families who want and will care for them. We
can take another example, in which the mother is pregnant and sick and has to choose between
her life and the babys; if abortion was completely illegal she would die. However, since
abortion could be legal in this kind of situation, she can live, recover, and have another baby in
the future.
Countries where Abortion is legal
. There are many countries where abortion is legal; these countries are: Bulgaria, Canada, Cuba,
Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, new Zealand,
Norway, Poland, Russia, Sweden, United Kingdom, and United States.
People will always have different opinions of what is right and wrong. Most of young women
practice abortion. This practice has many consequences, physical or moral on the person who
does it. This leads us to the following question: why should abortion be illegal? Then we will
show some reasons of why abortion should be forbidden. In our world in which everybody has
the right to live.

Reasons why abortion is illegal
A fetus at conception should be considered as a life inside a woman; The Bible says that the
right to life is one the most important rights.
Abortion is a murder; firstly, its an act forbidden by God himself. Life is important; it
begins by a conception, no matter when a person believes life becomes official. Abortion rates
around the world are scary. Per year, approximately 46 million of unborn children are killed.
That is approximately 126,000 per day. Every year, many young women are pregnant and they
are afraid to keep their babies; so, they rely on abortion. Thats why the rate of abortion increases
quickly each year. furthermore, one of the most important reasons abortion should be illegal
beyond the fact that it terminates life is that most women have regret and life complication
afterwards due to this action. Sometimes, when abortion is practiced in bad conditions it is the
cause of many genital complications such as perforation of the uterus, tubal rupture, ovarian
problems, various infections and also anemia by external or internal bleeding; these
complications can prevent these women from having children again. Also, abortion can lead to
many more complications. For instance, studies show that most woman who have done abortion
before are diagnosed with breast cancer. Abortion can cause depression, psychological disorders
which can trigger cardio vascular and neurological issues. And this is one of the main reasons
why abortion should be illegal. The depression as we know has the effect of affecting the
nervous system. Sometimes the young women who practice abortion become crazy because they

cant bearit; thinking every day about the murder that they committed. There is another option if
you dont want a baby: Give it to adoption.
Countries where Abortion is illegal
The countries where abortion is illegal are many. There are, in sub-Saharan: Angola,
Benin, Central African Rep. Chad, Congo, Cte dIvoire, Democratic Republic Of Congo,
Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mali, Mauretania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal,
Somalia, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda. In Middle East and north of Africa: Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran,
Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Syria, Sudan, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen; in Asia and Pacific:
Bangladesh, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Sri Lanka; In Europe:
Ireland and Malta; In south America: Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Dominican Republic, El Salvador,
Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Venezuela.
For this part we can say that abortion is wrong because when you practice that you take
another humans life.
Point of View
I would like to show you why abortion is a bad thing. Abortion is not different from a
murder as it is the killing of unborn babies. In todays society regular people are not allowed to
go out and murder someone for no reason, so why should doctors be allowed to murder unborn
babies? Abortion is not merely the removal of something from a womans body; abortion is the
destruction of an unborn baby. Abortion at any stage of pregnancy is the immoral taking of a
human life and should be illegal. The bible makes it clear that to God the unborn baby child

developing inside the womb is far more than mere fetal tissue.
The bible (exodus 21:22, 23) has clearly stated that a person would be held accountable for
hurting an unborn baby. Take another example, suppose a woman suffers a miscarriage, a
sympathetic doctor will not tell her, you have lost your fetus, he will say you have lost your
child.
Lastly, as my point of view has already been clearly stated, abortion should be illegal and the
first argument that we should have in mind is: would have any of us been out here if our parents
got abortion.
Conclusion
At the end of this study, we can say that abortion could be either illegal or legal depending on the
situation and the country. For instance it could be legal in case its needed to help a woman
survive a severe health condition while carrying a baby or if an expectant mother doesnt want to
keep her child because the pregnancy is the result of a rape. On the other hand, its illegal as it
goes against religious rules and can cause irreversible health damages to the expectant mother or
worse death. Looking at a graph showing the rate of mortality due to abortion bellow, Im lead to
warn all women against abortion to avoid being counted among these deaths.
