Christmas Baroque & Carols PROGRAMME
In this year's seasonal offering, EBC puts its best Baroque foot forward: Durante's
Magnificat, a Christmas cantata by Bach's boyhood hero, Buxtehude, and a sparkling
setting of In Dulci Jubilo by Scheidt all feature accompaniment by a specially invited
string group. Further festive fayre includes music by Sweelinck, Gabrieli, Praetorius
and Bach.
More familiar second-half items include carols for everyone to sing. Our stirring finale
is Vaughan Williams's much-loved Fantasia, for which EBC is delighted to welcome
back baritone soloist Bruce Russell.
Mulled wine and mince pies are also on the menu – Christmas starts here!
Magnificat – Francesco Durante (attrib. Pergolesi)
Quid petis, o fili – Richard Pygott
Es ist ein Ros’ entsprungen – Michael Praetorius
