The Story of My LifeBy: Helen Keller

What would it be like to live in a world you couldn’t see

and hear? How could you even learn to talk? Helen Keller livedin this kind of world.

Helen Keller was not born deaf and blind, but she becamesick when she was still small. When she recovered, everythingfor Helen was dark and silent. Her parents loved her and felt very

sorry for her. So, they didn’t try to make her obey, and theyallowed her to have her own way with everything. By giving into her whims and caprices, they made her make a mess of their

lives and hers, too.

Finally, they found a teacher for her, a young woman.

Anne Sullivan. She was nearly blind herself and they wonderedhow she could teach Helen. But Anne Sullivan was a strong,

stubborn person, and she refused to let Helen have her way.

Helen fought her. And even Helen’s parents were angry with her.

They couldn’t understand that pity was bad for their daughter. It

took a long time, but Anne found a way to get to Helen and open

up her world.

This is an exciting story about a real battle to overcomeobstacles. If you want to know how it was won, read book. Helenwill tell you.
