The definition of sketching is to do a rough drawing that shows the main features of an object or scene. In contrary, doing a sketch is useful in design and drawing courses. For example, architect, fashion designer, interior design, graphic design and artistics that use sketches before producing drawing of a final products or buildings. Most believe such a sketch can be difficult, yet if done properly with passion, it can be accomplished swiftly and efficiently. In fact, I am going to write an essay on how to sketch a kitchen utensil. The kitchen utensil that I will be sketching is none other the frying pan. The frying pan is one of the unique utensils created by mankind in the 19 century by the Mesopotamian. It has many special characteristics and features in this particular kitchen utensil itself. The frying pan is designed in circular shape to fry the food easily. It is flat-bottomed pan used for frying, searing and browning foods. It is typically 8 to 12 inches in diameter with relatively low sides that flares outward, a long handle and no lid. It is made with metals such as aluminium or stainless steel. A coating is applied to the surface of the pan to make it non- stick and it feels just like a matt surface. On the other hand, the handle is made of rubber to act as heat insulator so that hands will not get burned in the process of frying food. The frying pan is so hard that it can be used as a defensive weapon that Jackie Chan used to fight enemies in most of his movies. My mum often uses the frying pan to cook fried rice, noodles and eggs. Now, I even used it to fry eggs and sausages when I am hungry. I decide to sketch the frying pan because it is easy to sketch for someone lazy like me and I bet most of my classmates will selected frying pan as their option to sketch. The first step of this process is rather simple that is to find a workspace to begin my sketch with ease and peace of mind. My workspace is my study table that is messy as always and I begin to clean it up before I start my sketch. If your workspace is a mess, do clean-ups so that you feel comfortable when starting the sketches. Once you are done cleaning , prepare stationary or tools for sketching on the table. Prepare many A4 paper so you can draw a new sketch if any mistakes rise upon during the progress. For my level of sketching, I need a 2B and 6B pencils, erasers and black ink gel type pen. Firstly, I will sketch the body of the frying pan first. Draw the body using a 2B pencil that is a circle in a gentle and repeat motion. Align the paper to a comfort posture during sketching. Fill up the inner part of the pan as you finish drawing the body. Carry a frying pan with you if you need any reference. After that, draw a square small box at one of the curves as the mouth of the handle. Draw two long straight lines toward out of the small box indicates the body of the handles. Next, I will darken the sketching with a black artline pen so that it looks realistic and thicker. Just follow the lines carefully and after finish darken, let the drawings dry. Wet ink will ruin your sketches once you touch it. Once the drawing has dried, I will progress on the shading part. For shading, I will use the 6B pencils to do shadings below the drawings as it will look like the shadow of the pan. Then, I will darken the pan with a black artline pen. I will

Students nowadays does a sketch before drawing and designing certain things. Some students express their ideas and creativity through sketches. Recently, teacher had been teaching students how to sketch and generate ideas by drawing sketches of what the students think of so that they will practice doing sketching before design something on a daily basis.

A coating is applied to the surface of the pan to make it non-stick and it feels just like a matt surface.

I will darken the sketching while i follow the lines carefully so that it looks realistic and thick. After darken it, left the drawing to dry because wet drawings will ruin the sketches once it is touched. After that, I will do some shading on the inner part of the frying pan using the black artline pen. Draw shading curves on the body and base of the pan. For the final touch, I will draw an egg inside the pan and some wiggle vertical lines on top of the egg showing that the egg is cooking.

In conclusion, drawing sketches is not that difficult. We just have to put some passion towards the drawings and it will be easy. Students should often do sketching so that they can generate ideas while drawing. I have spent an hour plus on my workspace drawing the sketches but I believe some other student with drawing talent won’t even take much time and effort in producing a fine sketch. For someone like me that bad in drawing but producing a fine sketch for me is a huge accomplishment. I felt happy and somehow I don’t feel any burden drawing sketches now. In the future, I definitely will do some sketching before I start design or drawing something. The more I practise sketching, the easier it can be because it really only thinking and giving out ideas that something I have do all the time.
