Darnasus Engineering Ltd is an Engineering firm special-izing in water treatment, with experience in delivery and operation of innovated compact units for the treatment of aircraft sewage effluent.

Darnasus facilities pre-treat the lavatory effluent in order to make it suitable for central sewerage disposal or bio-logical treatment. Aircraft sewage is highly concentrated in pollutants and the addition of the blue liquid makes it even more difficult to be treated. Aircraft sewage quality far exceeds the limits set by Local Authorities and should not be disposed without pretreatment. Also mixing it with terminal wastewater, in order to be locally treated using conventional biological technology, has also prov-en to be inefficient for the same reasons.

Darnasus is an experienced firm in the field and has de-signed, constructed and is succesfully operating the air-craft wastewater treatment plants at Larnaca & Paphos Airports in Cyprus since 2011.

Darnasus can finance, install, commission and operate the facilities based on a Build – Operate - Own contract. For the services provided, Darnasus will be compensated by the users of the facility with a fixed tariff per aircraft accommodated. The Plant design is based on aircraft traffic and local environmental requirements.

Darnasus utilizes the membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology for superior treatment efficiency. MBR is a single process that combines biological degradation and membrane separation. The membranes allow the purified water to pass through the pores (filtrate), while creating a complete barrier to the passage of any solid greater than 0.1 microns, which includes all bacteria and suspended solids. So, in addition to removing biodegradable or-ganics, suspended solids and inorganic nutrients, MBR’s retain particulates, slow growing organisms and pathogens. MBR’s pro-vide a reliable, high-quality, reusable effluent.

Martin Systems, made in Germany, ultrafiltration membranes separate particles up to colloidal size due to their small pore size (<0,1μm). Martin user-friendly flat membranes are made of organ-ic polymers which, in combination with the sophisticated filter design, effectively prevent clogging of the filter due to hairs, fibers or other unhygienic coarse matter.

The MBR replaces the secondary clarification and sand filters found in a conventional wastewater treatment plant and provides a higher quality treated wastewater. This allows for increased per-formance with a smaller footprint. In an MBR, the membranes create a solids barrier and therefore the process is not subject to gravity settling solids limitations, as in conventional clarifiers.

Darnasus has been the first company in Cyprus that introduced MBR technology for small scale projects and has realized a sub-stantial number of wastewater treatment plants, which operate satisfactory and according to design standards. Our clients include airports, hotels, residential complexes and private customers.

Reverse Osmosis is a technology that is used to re-move a large majority of dissolved salts and con-taminants from water by pushing the water under pressure through a semi-permeable membrane. Desalination is a separation process used to reduce the dissolved salt content of saline water to a usable level.

The most economical and popular technology to desalinate seawater and brackish water is reverse osmosis. By continuously developing this technique over recent years, it has been possible to reduce en-ergy consumption to a minimum, enabling a signifi-cant reduction in water production costs. F L E X ITA N K SEASY LIQUID STORAGE

FlexiTanks are made from a polyester fabric with a high quality plastic layer on both sides. This plastic can resist a wide range of liquids and provides maximum protection against UV radiation. This means it will last a very long time.

The strong fabric easily absorbs the mechanical forces that arise inside the FlexiTank during its use. In the design large safety margins are used.FlexiTanks are suitable for all non-corrosive liquids and can be placed on just about any flat surface.

The standard delivery includes the FlexiTank with sealable inspection opening, venitlation, a pipeset with valves and all its installation material. Upon request agitating equip-ment can be supplied as an extra.
