Dr. S. M. V. Narayana took charge as the Principal on 30 th June, 2014. Dr. Narayana received his PhD from JNTUH for his research on Evaluation of Mechanical and Durability of Normal Strength Concrete using Fly Ash and Waste Lime in the year 2008. After receiving his doctoral degree from JNTUH, Dr. Narayana assumed the position of the Principal at Aditya College of Engineering, Madanapalli; Siddartha Institute of Science and Technology, Puttur and Gokula Krishna College of Engineering, Sullurpet. During this time, he gained enriching experience in Administrative skills. Dr. Narayana is the recipient of Sir Arthur Cotton Award and Brij Mohan Lal Award by Institution of Engineers (India). Dr. Madarvalli joined as Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 19 th August, 2014 A Doctorate from Andhra University, Dr. Madarvalli held several positions at Gitam University, Vishakapatnam, as the Registrar and a Professor in Industrial Engineering, the Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering since 1998. He was also the Principal at VIF College of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad, in 2005. His research work aims to develop intelligent machines that monitor the tool wear in un-manned factories. Dr. Madarvalli is very active in Research Supervision. Two scholars obtained Doctoral Degrees and three scholars are pursuing their research under him. Annamacharya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Rajampet, was conferred on ‘Outstanding Institution for Engineering Education in Science & Technology in Remote Areas’ for 2014 by Institute of Bio Informatics & Computational Biology and DNA Research Center, Hyderabad. This award was received by Sri. C. Gangi Reddy, Founder, Annamacharya Educational Trust from Honourable Minister of Human Resources Development (Primary Education, Secondary Education, Higher & Technical Education) Sri. Ganta Sreenivasa Rao at a conference conducted in Vizag on 28 th December 2014. Hundreds of engineering colleges located at several remote areas across the state of AP & Telangana were considered before AITS was chosen for this coveted award for offering qualitative, scientific, technical education to the rural students. A Two-day National Workshop on Cyber Security was conducted by IEEE student chapter on 6th and 7th September, 2014. Mr. Venkata Appala Naidu, ASP Jammalamadugu, was invited as the Chief Guest. He shared his career experiences related to cybercrimes, their consequences and safety measures with students. Mr. G.V. Ramana, DSP, Rajampet said that students must be careful while posting their personal information on Social Networking sites as it is targeted by hackers. Dr. A. Subramanyam, Dean of Engineering Studies spoke to the students on the employment opportunities in cyber security. Dr. G. Prabhakar Rao, Director; Dr. S.M.V. Narayana, Principal; Sri C. Yella Reddy, Vice-Chairman were present during the inaugural session.

National Workshop on Cyber Security

Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized a One-day National Conference on Electrical Sciences on 26th July, 2014. The conference aimed to gather the experts from academic institutions, industry and research organizations in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering to facilitate fruitful interaction among the members. This conference broadly covered the areas of Electrical Power Systems, Power Electronics and Embedded Systems. Prof. M. Saidulu, NIT, Warangal was the Chief Guest and the Keynote Speaker of the conference who delivered a remarkable speech on this occasion. The most highlighting part of his speech was about the production of power through Hydrogen. He advised that one should avoid the overuse and wastage of power as it is severely damaging our natural resources. Finally, he encouraged the students to spend more time with parents and faculty members to improve human relations in life. NCES-14 has witnessed huge response from all over the state. Dr. V. Madhusudhan, Principal, KORM College of Engineering, Kadapa; Prof. Lenine Dept. of EEE, RGM College of Engineering and Technology, Nandyal; and Dr. S. Chandra Mohan Reddy HOD, Dept. of ECE, JNTU Pulivendula acted as session chairs in the conference. Speaking at the Conference, Dr. Prabhakara Rao, Director, AITS, said that the college conducts such useful conferences every year promptly to upgrade the technical knowledge of the students. Dr. S. M. V. Narayana, Principal, AITS, urged the students that education will be rewarded only by genuine human values. Dr. Padma Lalitha, Convener, NCES-14 explained the theme of the conference in detail.

A One-day National Level Workshop on MATLab Programming was hosted by Department of EEE on 23rd December 2014. P. V. M. Madhukar Reddy, Director, Shiridi Sai Electricals, Kadapa was the Chief Guest of the Inaugural function of the workshop. Dr. M.Narsing Yadhav, Professor and Vice-Principal, Malla Reddy Institute of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad, acted as the resource person. He provided comprehensive explanation of MATLab Programming. Dr. M. Padma Lalitha, HOD, EEE explained how AITS grew big & strong since its inception, during the workshop. Sri. Revuri Vengamma, who scored highest marks at University level in EEE, was conferred on University Gold Medal by Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lal Kishore in the Convocation Ceremony on 24th December 2014. Sri C. Gangi Reddy, the Founder, Annamacharya Educational Trust, congratulated Vegamma on her achievement. He said, “The gold medal is a reflection of one's brilliance, perseverance, enduring courage and immense faith which kept them close to their goals. It is an accomplishment which nobody can take away and these gestures of receiving medals make one strive for excellence.” Dr. G. Prabhakara Rao, Director; Dr. S. M. V. Accenture Hyderabad conducted a five week training programme, “Targeterate Industrial Programme” for final year B. Tech. students from 26th July, 2014. The training aimed at improving the leadership qualities in students and instill in them corporate behaviour. At the valedictory ceremony, Mr. Abhijit Ballurkar, Mr. Sarva and Mr. Kiran from Accenture explained how software companies are contributing in developing all the sectors. Richa Jain from Symphony Telica also trained the participants. Sri C. Abhishek Reddy stressed the importance of such training which will narrow the gap between industry and institute. Dr. G. An awareness program on Human Values was conducted by Student Chapter of IE(I) of AITS, on 21st October 2014. Sri Munirathnam, Rtd. Principal, Govt. Junior College, Renigunta was the Chief Guest of the program. He said15-25 age group people in the society are suffering from inferiority complex more than those of other age groups. He added, this problem can be overcome by keeping one’s mind pleasant and contemplating good always. Dr. S. M. V. Narayana, Principal; and Dr. A. Subramanyam, Dean, Engineering, graced the the programme with their presence. Prof. Abdul Rahim, Board Member, Institute of Engineers, looked after the conduct of the programme.

An Awareness Programme on Human Values

Department of Information Technology organized a One-day Workshop on Big Data Technologies on 24th August 2014. Mr. Ashok and Mr. Pranab Kumar from Jet Mine Technologies were invited as the resource persons for the workshop. The workshop attracted the student community as 77 students from various engineering colleges located across the Rayalaseema region enrolled for the programme. Big Data uses large pools of data that can be brought together and analyzed to discern patterns and make better decisions and this will become the basis of competition and growth for individual firms by reducing waste and increasing the quality of products and services, the resource persons shared with the budding engineers. Mr. Solomon Devavaram, Senior Manager, Hitachi Consultancy, interacted with final year B. Tech. students on 27th September 2014. He stressed the need of self-confidence, hard work, and working in a multi-lingual and multi-cultural environment. Indian Institute of Technology has conducted a six day training programme in “Computer Programming” from 16th June 2014 to 21st June 2014. This training programme was sponsored by Central Human Resource Department. Through this initiative, IIT conducted these training programmes for ten thousand engineering faculty on different topics all over India. Another Workshop on Computer Networks was conducted for faculty members from 30th July 2014 to 5th August 2014.

A Two-day Cultural Meet Sankeerthana was grandly organized on 17th & 18th April, 2014 by Cultural Association. More than 200 students from all over the state participated in this event. Sri. Srinivasa Raju, Tollywood film Director was the chief guest of this function. Addressing the students on this occasion, he said that committing errors in life is common but one should learn new lessons from one’s errors. He spoke about friendship and said that the real poor are those who have no friends in life. Sri. C. Gangi Reddy, Chairman, AET has expressed his happiness for organizing such a big event and expected more such events in future. Dr. G. Prabhakara Rao, Director, AITS, who presided over the function, appreciated the participants and the efforts of the organizers. He said that every student must learn an art simultaneously with education to lead a great life. Sri. C. Abhishek, Treasurer, Sri . C. Yella Reddy, Vice Chairman; Dr. S. M. V. Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering organized A Two-day Faculty Development Program on “TI Analog System Design by Using ASLK Pro” in collaboration with Starcom Information Technology Limited & TI India University on 22nd December 2014 and 23rd December 2014. ASLK has been developed at Texas Instruments India. This kit is designed for undergraduate engineering students to perform analog lab experiments. In this workshop, the faculty members were exposed to the concepts of Analog System Design using Texas Instruments Analog System Lab Kit (ASLK) to design an analog system independently and think of Analog Signal Processing in terms System design rather than the conventional Circuit Design. Mr. Narendra Babu and Mr. B. Vinay Kumar from Starcom Information Technology Ltd. graced the inaugural function as Guests. Dr. Asif Hussain, Assistant Professor, ECE, acted as the coordinator of this FDP.

Anti-ragging Awareness Programme

The Great Mind Challenge (TGMC), an annual nationwide software development competition, is created by the Academic Initiative of IBM, a multinational technology and consulting corporation. This is intended to cultivate programming skills in the professional students across the country. For the year 2013, Annual meet and prize distribution to the best teams for their projects and to the colleges for offering instrumental support in rolling out this program productively were held at CMRT Engineering College, Bangalore. 900 colleges across the country participated in this event but the best 50 colleges were chosen to confer the awards. Annamacharya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Rajampet was ranked 15. Dr.S.M.V.Narayana, Principal, AITS, Sri Karthik, Director, IBM Academic Cell, together received this award on behalf of AET.

Lera Technologies, Hyderabad, conducted campus recruitment drive for CSE, IT and MCA students on 14th June, 2014. According to Mr. Srinivasa Rao, Placement Officer, 25 candidates cleared the written test and appeared for personal interview. 7 students were selected in the final round and were given employment.

Achievers’ Day was celebrated on 17th May, 2014 in a grand style. Students showed their extraordinary skill and bagged prizes in Inter-college sports and cultural activities. Sri. C. Gangi Reddy, Chairman, AET said that AITS students regularly win prizes in inter-university competitions. Sri. C. Yella Reddy, Vice Chairman; Dr. G. Prabhakara Rao, Director; Dr. A. Subramanyam, Dean, Engineering; gave away prizes to the students. The event was organized by Sports and Games Committee and Cultural Association.

Achievers’ Day Infosys conducted an off campus drive for the positions of System Engineers for 2014 B. Tech. graduates on 2nd April, 2014. Students registered with JKC from various colleges across the Rayalaseema appeared for the drive. 500 students out of 1300 were shortlisted for the online exam. On this occasion, Sri. C. Gangi Reddy, Founder, AET said that “conducting an online exam for 500 students at a time is really a herculean task” and he appreciated the technical and placement cell staff for their commitment. CRANES, an international company which is a part of Texas Instruments, UAE conducted National level competitions on Analog Design at Annamacharya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Rajampet on 1st April, 2014. More than 300 ECE students from all the affiliated colleges of AITS participated in this two stage test. In this competition, top three students were awarded prizes along with placement in CRANES Company. Prof. Abdul Raheem, Head, ECE said that students would develop creative thinking through such competition. Sri. C. Speaking to the students on this occasion, Sri Gangi Reddy asked the students to maintain the same discipline in future which would help everyone to reach the desired positions. Dr. G. THRIMSHATHI, a National Level Cultural fest, was organized by GPR Engineering College, Kurnool. Students from various institutions in the state were invited to the competitions. Competitions were held in the cultural events like Dance, Poster Presentation, singing, Music Quiz, Debate, Essay writing and Rangoli. T. Chethan Kumar, A. Susmitha, R. Sri S.V. Mahesh Babu, ADE, APTRANSCO delivered a lecture on Thermal Power Stations for B. Tech. EEE students on 6th November 2014. He discussed the layout of thermal power station and various components like Boilers, Economizers and Superheaters. He also explained the function of electrostatic precipitator and preventive mechanisms of pollution and economic constraints in thermal power station. Guest Lecture on Thermal Power Stations

Dr. C. Sreenivasa Rao, Professor and Head, EEE, Pullaiah College of Engineering and Technology, Kurnool, delivered a guest lecture on Artificial Intelligence to Power Systems. In this lecture, he focused on power system related problems like load frequency control, economic load dispatch and unit commit. He also explained neural networks, fuzzy logic for power system applications for safety and secure operation.

Our college with the support of Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams performed Sri Srinivasa Kalyanam with the Deities from Tirumala on 20th September 2014. More than 200 families recited the sankalpam and more than 2500 devotees participated in the grand event in midst of vedic chants by the priests from Tirumala. Sri Choppa Gangi Reddy and other management members received the deities as per the traditional rituals with thousands chanting “Govinda” “Govinda”. The Kalayanam started at six in the evening and the ritual was performed with utmost devotion by senior veda pandits from Tirumala. The whole event and the pooja were narrated in detail by the TTD priests. Over 1000 volunteers, both from the staff and the students, worked tirelessly to make this event a memorable and vibrant experience. After the Kalyanam, all the devotees received free Laddus prepared by TTD.

Prof. K. V. S. G. Murali Krishna, a renowned speaker and personality development trainer visited Annamacharya Institute of Technology and Sciences on 12th April, 2014 to create an awareness on personality development among I. B. Tech students. The speech by Prof. Muralikrishna was received with cheers from the students. The presentation by Prof. Murali Krishna was hilarious and inspiring.

Tech Mahindra, Hyderabad conducted campus recruitment for 2013-14 passed out graduates on 9th April, 2014. Annamacharya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Rajampet received membership in the prestigious Business Management Schools Association A.I.M.S (Association of Indian Management Schools) on 4th July 2014. AIMS connects more than 650 business schools in India. The membership of the association provides opportunities to the management students and faculty to participate in National and International conferences, Workshops conducted by AIMS. Sri C. Tech Mahindra conducted a campus recruitment drive for all the final year B.Tech, M.Tech and MCA students on 27th December, 2014. According to Mr. Satya Thopalli, Campus Recruitment Head, 57 out of 600 candidates cleared the written test and appeared for personal interview. Finally, 18 students cleared personal interview and were recruited. Sri. C. Gangi Reddy, Founder, AET; and Sri. C. JNTUA Handball Team selections for boys and girls were held on 16th September 2014. The selection was formally inaugurated by Sri B. Joji Reddy, JNTUA Sports Council Secretary. Sri Joji Reddy addressed the students that AITS has developed excellent sports and games infrastructure on the campus, which is the reason for choosing AITS for the selections. Mr. Nagamuni, Physical Director, AITS, coordinated this mega event. K. Kalpana from EEE, L. Bhavana from Mechanical and J. Shwetha from ECE were reckoned for the final JNTUA Handball Team for Girls. For the Boys Team, K. K. Ramudu from EEE and L. Prema Sagar Reddy from CSE were selected. The selected players participated in the Inter-University Handball Tournament organized by Periyar University, at Selam, from 29th September to 3rd October 2014.

Engineers’ Day was grandly celebrated by the staff and students of AITS Rajampet. In a get-together organized in the evening, Sri C. Gangi Reddy, the Founder, garlanded the portrait of Sir Mokshagundam Vishweswaraiah. Dr. S. M. V. Narayana, the Principal, was felicitated by the management and the staff. In recognition of his service to engineering field, Dr. Narayana received this honor. Later, speaking to the audience, Dr. Narayana fondly recalled his experiences as a civil engineer in engineering activities. Sri C. P. Holy Jerusha and D. SaiSrujana of IV EEE won second prize in “Ishtaan-2k14”, a national level symposium organized by K. S. R. M. College of Engineering, Kadapa. Their paper titled “Reduced Power Topology for Power Electronic Transformer” received appreciation from the reviewers.

Achievements by Students

An anti-ragging awareness programme was conducted on 27th September, 2014. Mr. Sudhakar, Sub-Inspector, Mannur, explained different laws, punishments to the students who get involved in ragging. Dr. G. Prabhakara Rao, Director; Dr. S.M.V. Narayana, Principal; Dr. Sreedhar were present at the programme.

P. Chakravarthi and T. JilaniBasha of EEE won first prize in “EPROZYME-2014”, a national level symposium hosted by Pragathi Engineering College, Kakinada. Their paper titled “Fifth Generation of Mobile Communication” explained how the user can download content from web up to 1gbps.

K. Mounika and P. Ramalingeshwar Reddy of IT won second prize in “Thrishna-2k14”, a national level symposium hosted by AITS Tirupati. They presented a paper titled “5G Technology” at the symposium.

Y. Dheeraj Kumar Reddy and T. Chetan Kumar of CSE won third prize in “Technozion-14”, an international conference organized by NIT Warangal. Their presentation titled “Chaitanyam” was recommended for the award in an event called Aakaanksha.

Annual Alumni Meet for B. Tech., MBA, and MCA students was grandly arranged on the campus on 14th December 2014. Sri C. Gangi Reddy said that old students are biggest asset to any college. Sri C. Kishore Kumar, Associate professor, Department of ECE, NIT Warangal explained the processing techniques right from basics and the changes happened to process the Digital Data and stressed the importance of Hardware and Software Co-Designing, which play vital role in the process of expectation of a design engineer and device actual behavior in real time environment.
