    VOLVO PENTA INDUSTRIAL DIESEL

TAD1641VE420 kW (571 hp) crankshat power acc. to ISO 3046

The TAD1641VE is a powerul, reliableand economical Versatile Diesel Engine

built on the dependable Volvo in-line six

    design.

Durability & low noiseDesigned or the easiest, astest and

    most economical installation. Well bal-

anced to produce smooth and vibration-

ree operation with low noise level, ea-

    tured with high torque.

To maintain a controlled working tem-

    perature in cylinders and combustion

chambers, the engine is equipped withpiston cooling. The engine is also tted

with replaceable cylinder liners and valve

seats / guides to ensure maximum dura-

bility and service lie o the engine.

Operational economy andLow exhaust emissionThe state o the art, high-tech injection

and air charging system with low internal

    losses contributes to excellent combus-

    tion and low uel consumption.

    The TAD1641VE complies with EPA

/ CARB Tier 2 and EU stage II exhaust

    emission regulations.

Easy service & maintenanceEasily accessible service and mainte-

nance points contribute to the ease o

    service o the engine.

Technical description:Engine and block Optimized cast iron cylinder block with opti-

mum distribution o orces without the blockbeing unnecessary heavy.

Wet, replaceable cylinder liners Piston cooling or low thermal load on pis-

tons and reduced ring temperature Tapered connecting rods to reduce risk o

piston cracking Crankshat induction hardened bearing

suraces and llets with seven main bear-ings or moderate load on main and big-endbearings

Nitrocarburized transmission gears or heavyduty operation

Keystone top compression rings or longservice lie

Viscous type crankshat vibration damper Replaceable valve guides and valve seats Over head camshat and our valves per

cylinder equipped with camshat damper toreduce noise and vibrations.

Lubrication system Full fow oil cooler Full fow disposable spin-on oil lters, or

    extra high ltration

The lubricating oil level can be measuredduring operation (Standard dipstick only)

Gear type lubricating oil pump, gear drivenby the transmission

Fuel system Sel de-aerating system. When replacing

lters all uel stays in the engine. Non-return uel valve

Electronic Unit Injectors Fuel prelter with water separator and water-in-uel indicator / alarm

Gear driven low-pressure uel pump Fuel pressure switch

Turbo charger Ecient and reliable turbo charger Extra oil lter or the turbo charger

Cooling system Air to air intercooler Belt driven, maintenance-ree coolant pump

with high degree o eciency Coolant lter as standard Tropical radiator Radiator guard Ecient cooling with accurate coolant con-

trol through a water distribution duct in thecylinder block. Reliable sleeve thermostatwith minimum pressure drop

Fan hub Suction type an, 890 mm Fan & belt guard

Electrical system Engine Management System 2 (EMS 2), an

electronically controlled processing systemwhich optimizes engine perormance. It alsoincludes advanced acilities or diagnosticsand ault tracing

The instruments and controls connects tothe engine via the CAN SAE J1939 inter-ace, either through the Control InteraceUnit (CIU) or the Digital Control Unit (DCU).The CIU converts the digital CAN bus signalto an anolog signal, making it possible toconnect a variety o instruments. The DCU isa control panel with display, engine control, monitoring, alarm, parameter setting and di-agnostic unctions. The DCU also presentserror codes in clear text.

Sensors or oil pressure, oil temp, boostpressure, boost temp, coolant temp, ueltemp, water in uel, uel pressure and twospeed sensors. Crank case pressure, pistoncooling pressure, oil level and air lter pres-

    sure drop sensors. Alternator 24V / 80A

Features High torque Air to air intercooler

Fully electronic with Volvo Penta EMS 2 High power density EPA / CARB Tier II / EU stage II emission compliant Low noise levels

Power StandardsThe engine perormance corresponds to ISO 3046, BS5514 and DIN 6271. The technical data applies to anengine without cooling an and operating on a uel with

caloric value o 42.7 MJ/kg (18360 BTU/lb) and adensity o 0.84 kg/litre (7.01 lb/US gal, 8.42 lb/lmp gal),also where this involves a deviation rom the standards.Rating GuidelineIFN Power rating corresponds to ISO Overload Power. Itis intended or applications where intermittent power is

utilized less than 1 hour within any period o 12 hours ocontinuous operation. The average load actor must notexceed the continuous rating.

ICFN Power rating corresponds to ISO Standard

Power or continuous operation. It is intended or con-stant load applications with uninterrupted service at ullload or extended periods o time. The average load actormust not exceed 70% o the continuous rating, whenoperating at continuous speed and load.
