The BMW N42 and N46 1.8 and 2.0 twin cam petrol engines feature Vanos variable camshaft timing units on the inlet and exhaust camshafts combined with the BMW Valvetronic system which varies the timing and lift of the inlet valves.

Important

This kit (5711) is used for removal, installation plus dismantling and rebuilding the camshaft carrier bracket | Valvetronic assembly. It is used in conjunction with the Engine Timing Tool Set 4419, which includes tools necessary for timing the engine when, for example, changing the cam chain or camshafts.

Camshaft carrier mounting fixture assembly

Assemble the four support struts D to the fixture plate C. They are secured by hex headed set screws (4mm). Take care to assemble the short support strut in the correct position (refer to diagram). The short strut has a raised lip on its base which corresponds to a recess in the fixture plate.

The mounting fixture assembly is designed to be mounted on a vice (refer to diagram).
