The Literature Centre is visiting our school!

Next week The Literature Centre, formerly known as The Fremantle Children’s Literature Centre, is attending our school for the whole week. The Literature Centre educators will set up their influential author and print displays in our library.

There are many benefits to a Literature Centre residency, not the least being inspiration to our students regarding authorship, engagement with literature and creative thinking. In addition to the benefits to students, our staff find working shoulder to shoulder with the exceptional Centre Educators an inspiration to their own teaching practice.

The Literature Centre Residency is highly subsidised by the School, however a low fee of $5.00 will be required for each student that attends. A timetable catering for all students from Kindergarten to Year Six has been constructed. I will send parents a separate email detailing how to pay this fee; in the meantime, please make it your business to visit our school Library next week and have a look at how the Literature Centre utilises original author drafts and illustrator pre-fits to create high quality published works that we love, read and re-read.

As usual, please email me [email protected] or catch me for a chat if you have any queries at all.

We love Dusa – our first Guinea pig (not sure what he thinks of us though…) Therapy pets in schools can help reduce student stress, lower anxiety and improve school attendance.

Dusa is a ‘hit’ already. Thank you so much Anastasia for helping us find him!!

Dusa is a Czechoslovakian male name meaning ‘Spirit’ – we love it!!

Our next step will be to purchase some cuddle-sacks so that students can cuddle Dusa and his mates safely.

We are more than happy to have at least one but maybe even three more guinea pigs, if you have one that would like to be re-loved.

Please let Bev or Keira know – thank you!

Bush Tucker Trail Blazers

Oscar, Grace, Cassidy & Zaine are seen here preparing to plant a jam wattle.

Jam wattles are both bush tucker and are excellent habitat trees for butterflies.

Earn and Learn – thanks, and lets keep going!!

The Year Six Student Leader Mentors have completed over 1265 sheets of Earn and Learn stickers, making the current total of stickers collected for our school over 15,540!!!

What a total!! THANK YOU!!

Let’s keep going – we have until 25 June to gather as many stickers as we can. We then submit our total, and our school can select much-needed sports, outdoor play, musical and fine motor development equipment to support our educational programs. Our students are the winners – and our whole school community appreciates the ‘bit’ that you do for us.

Collection boxes can be found in our front office, as well as down at Flinders Square.

Persuade your friends, relatives and neighbours --- even strangers!!! - to pop their stickers into the Tuart Hill Primary School box .

Thank you!!

Our Safer School Community

On behalf of the staff at our school thank you for insisting on safe, respectful behaviour at all time when on the school grounds, on please advising our students on better ways to use facilities because I have had no reports of accidents nor complaints regarding poor toilet behaviour, and also thank you for letting me know if unsupervised students are making poor choices, so that I can help them make better choices in the future.

We feel that after-school behaviour has improved, thanks to your supervision. We appreciate the support.

Parents will notice that the road alterations are coming to a close. The next steps in improving safety around our school is re-marking the parking bays and replacing the current (inaccurate) old, faded signage.

Parents may have noticed increases Ranger activity – there has certainly been an increase in police presence, using the radar to clock car speeds on Cape Street and Banksia Street – please be aware.

I am sorry to report that there was evidence of smash-and-grab activity (that was reported to Police) on Lawley Street. Please carry your bags with you and hide computers in the boot of your car.

Bold thieves have no trouble in smashing a car window to grab anything they think may hold cash or saleable items. Please be alert and forewarned; thank you.

It is critical that parents with their students use street parking and the open exterior gates to access the school. Staff car parks, including the Dental Car Park, must not be used for student and parent thoroughfare. Several recent close calls have occurred. Please note the open perimeter gates and use them; thank you.

Please email or catch me for a chat if you have any suggestions or advice regarding how to consistently encourage high standards of respect for our school at all times. Thank you in advance for your support.
