•Buy ENERGY STAR labeled products(www.energystar.gov)

•Educate and encourage others to beenergy conscious and designate aresponsible party to promote energysavingpractices.

•Set your thermostat a few degreeslower. For each one-degree change,youcansaveupto5%onheatingandcoolingcosts!

•Holdaribbonuptotheedgesofyourwindows.Ifairisleakinginto,oroutof,thehouse,theribbonwillmove.Ifyoufindaleak,fixit.

•Keep your freezer full and defrostregularly.Frostandicebuild-upcausesyour freezer to use more energy tokeepitatacoldtemperature.

•Setthermostatto66-68degreeswhenhomeand58-62degreeswhensleepingor away for very brief periods duringcoldmonths. Set thermostat to 76-78degreeswhenhomeand80-84degreeswhen sleeping or away during warmmonths.

•Ensureyourfireplacedamperisclosedwhennotinuse.

•Adjustwaterheaterto120degreesorlower,anddrainanysediment.

•Have heating and air conditioningsystems checked once a year andchangefiltersfrequently.

•Openwindowcoveringsonyourhome’ssunnysideandcloseat sunset incoldmonths.

•Closewindowcoveringsduringthedayinwarmmonths.

•Utilizeceilingfanstospreadwarm/coldairaroundthehome.Shutofffansifnooneisaround.

•Makesurethereisadequatefloorandceiling insulation (R-30 toR-38 in theatticandR-19inthesub-floor.)

•Keepdoorsandwindowsclosedwhenheating/coolingunitsareoperating.

• Installaprogrammablethermostatandconsider a locking cover to maintaindesiredtemperaturesettings.

•Movelightingorappliancesawayfromthermostatsothatitisn’tsensingheatandrunninglongerthannecessary.

•Use window tinting to prevent heatlossorheatgain.

•Caulk doors and windows and makesureweather-strippingisinplace.

• Install motion sensors for lighting inroomsthatareusedinfrequently.

•Make sure air conditioning units arefree of obstructions to maintain airflow.

•Fix leaking faucets. Install faucetaerators in restrooms and low-flowshowerheadsinshowerfacilities.

•Replace incandescent light bulbs withcompactfluorescentlights(CFL).

•Wipedirtanddustfromlightfixturestopreventthemfromabsorbinglight.

•Switch off lights and appliances whennotbeingused.Unplugwhenaway foranextendedtime.

•Turnoffordimlightingwhenadequatesunlightisavailable.

•Makesureexteriorlightingisturnedoffduringtheday.

•Shut off your computer when you arenotusingit.

•Turnoff lightswhenyouarenot in theroom.

•TurnoffyourgamingsystemorTVwhenyouarenotusingit.
