The innovation RAUGEO Helix XXL sets new standards in terms of the assembly, efficiency and operating safety of energy piles. With assembly that is twice as fast, significantly improved extraction performance and permanently high functional safety, the energy piles work more economically and sustainably than ever before.

Using energy pilesIn modern structural engineering bore piles are used for the building foundations in the case of poor load-bearing sub-soil. In addition to this, bore piles are used as retaining walls. If pipes are integrated into these piles to use the ground-source heat near to the surface then you get energy piles.

According to the geological conditions, with these

energy piles heat can be recovered from the sub-soil in a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way for heating buildings, and heat fed into the ground to cool buildings.

As the foundation piles and the associated civil engineering works are required anyway, only a small amount of additional costs are incurred through the integration of the ground-source system.

The meander shape does not have any connections to the pile head, but prevents correct permanent ventilation of the piles, which reduces the efficiency of the unit.

With U bends the ventilation is enabled by fittings, but which require additional time and material.

With the RAUGEO Helix XXL the assembly is fast and correct, with a high performance and safety of the system.

Assembly time halvedThe RAUGEO Helix XXL has a telescopic design. The highly resistant pipes made from PE-Xa are perma-nently dimensionally stable wound as a helix. The compressed compact delivery format can be pulled out to many times its length immediately on installation and, at the same time, the diameter of the Helix XXL adjusted individually to the internal diameter of the reinforcing cage.

During installation the extended pipe is inserted into the pile and fastened to the reinforcing cage. Expensive and time-consuming threading, bending and frequent fixing of the pipes as with conventional systems is therefore not required The assembly times can therefore be halved compared to conventional methods!

Significant efficiency increase in the extraction performanceDue to the helix shape the flow pipe has a large contact area with the surrounding ground.The return pipe is fed vertically directly from the pile base to the head and the thermal short circuit of the system is therefore reduced to a minimum. This special arrangement leads to significantly faster response characteristics of the Helix XXL and a higher heat extraction from the surrounding ground.

During a project in Italy that was supported scientifi-cally by the University of Padua, it was possible to prove the improvement in the extraction output due to the helix geometry. Both the Thermal Response Test and the simulation resulted in a over 10 % improvement in the extraction output of the Helix XXL compared to a meander design with the same pipe length.

PE-Xa – Material with built-in safetyThe high resistance of the PE-Xa material to point loads and stress cracking permits a high degree of safety, which far exceeds conventional pipes made from PE 80, PE 100 or PE-RC. In particular during handling on the construction site, installation and backfilling the pile the pipe is subjected to mechanical loads. The PE-Xa material had the best test results by far.

No connections - no weak areasAs the helix-shaped flow on the outside and the vertical return inside consist of a single pipe, no connections to the probe base or the probe head are required. In addition to the associated material and time saving, the functional safety is increased, as there are no potential weak areas in the form of connections.

Optimised potential due to variable distribution densityThe helix geometry makes it possible to vary the distance between the individual pipe loops. In this way, in the case of geologies with high heat conductivity the number of pipe metres can be increased and therefore the heat exchange with the ground optimised. Conversely, in the case of poor conditions a low distribution density can be selected and, as a result, material costs saved. Additionally, the pipe spacing in the upper pile area can be greater than in the lower area, in order to be able to benefit from the slightly higher temperature level lower down and to improve the heat exchange.

Optimised through complete ventilationBy avoiding high points points in the pile continuous ventilation of the system is ensured, the advantage of which is reliable unit efficiency.

Optimised pipe bendIn conventional systems the lower bend hides a risk potential both during the installation of the reinforcing cage and during the concreting process. In the RAUGEO Helix XXL the pipe bend is protec-ted, as it is lined up with the reinforcing cage instead of the inside of the pile.

The RAUGEO Helix XXL can be fi tted to all common pile dimensions. Usually the pipe dimensions d20 and d25 are used. The pipe length and the diameter of the coils are variable. Therefore the ideal solution can always be used for the specifi c project with regard to heat exchange and hydraulics.
