Our experience in the energy and offshore industryThe Cavotec Group has been in active in the energy and offshore industry for more than a decade. It started by supplying specialstainless steel drag chains and cable reels designed to withstand the harsh operating conditions found on offshore applications inthe United Kingdom and Norway.

Power Connectors

The Cavotec Power Connectors havebeen present in the field ofindustrial power supply for morethan 20 years, starting in the harshenvironment of the Scandinavianmines and hydro-electric tunnels.

Today the high quality, strength andintegral safety of the CavotecConnectors have set the standardconcerning low and high voltagepower supply to many differenttypes of equipment. Not only inmining and tunnelling but also inhundreds of energy and offshoreapplications around the world.

Cavotec Connectors for low and highvoltage applications are well designed,with a standard IP 66 protection and astandard maximum temperature of80°C. The range of low voltage powerconnectors, available in a variety of sizes,are made in two different operatingsystems:

1. The "Push & Pull" system is preferredwhen the connectors have to bedisconnected manually orautomatically several times a day.

2. The "Screw Ring" system hasspecial connectors fitted with screwrings for applications with manualdisconnections on a day-to-day orweekly basis.

Cables

In order to supply a comprehensiveselection of high quality cablesspecially adapted to harsh workingenvironments, the Cavotec Groupdecided to select specialisedmanufacturing partners enablingCavotec to guarantee the veryhighest level of productivity andsafety.

Among the specialised cablemanufacturing partnersrepresented by the Group, we canmention such companies asAmercable, Baude, Gore, Palazzo,Prysmian, Nexans and Tratos.

All the cables offered by the CavotecGroup are divided in low and mediumvoltage. Low voltage cables are furtherdivided into power or control cables aseach single cable is designed to dealwith specific applications. Mediumvoltage cables on the other hand are allpower cables but the majority can besupplied with integrated fibre-optics asan option. The range of cables is suchthat Cavotec can supply any type ofcable to suit any specific application.

Cable Reels

Cavotec Specimas cable reels havebeen supplied to the energy andoffshore sector since many years.Each unit is used in a variety ofoperations supplying power, air andwater to mobile equipment. TheCavotec Specimas reputation in thismarket segment has beenestablished by supplying innovative,strong and compact systems,supported by a team of specialisedengineers.

For intermittent duty applicationsCavotec normally recommends theHydrodynamic System, while forcontinuous duty applicationsCavotec has designed a variabletorque regulating system. The Hydrodynamic System is an unique

patented system which provides a simpleand rational solution for many cable andhose reel applications. The system isbased on a torque unit in whichreduction gear, clutch and brake arebuilt into one closed unit. Furthermore,thanks to the clutch acting directly onthe main drum shaft, an even torqueoutput is guaranteed.

Cavotec Specimas also provides anothertype of system called the Cavotec TorqueControl system. This provides a constantpull on the cable following a torquereference signal. This signal is based oncable weight and length, speed, and

acceleration. The main benefit of thissystem is a significantly improved cablelife. The system can be used for single-phase and three-phase AC and also forDC feed. The standard protection classis IP55 and the system is suitable forenvironment temperatures up to +40 C°.Special ventilation and motor insulationare supplied for higher temperatureranges.

Ex Radio Remote Controls

Cavotec Micro-control has beeninvolved since 1984 in thedevelopment and production ofadvanced radio remote controlsystems, including the latest unitsfor use in areas where explosionscould occur.

All systems have a high level offlexibility and are made fromstandard modules allowing for fullcustomisation to meet specificrequirements. Cavotec Micro-controlradio remote control systems meetthe most stringent safety andquality controls and are fully ATEXand IEC approved.

The MC-3000 Ex and MC-3-6 Ex radioremote controls provide a secure and flexible control of many different typesof machinery. To a wide extent they feature the same functionality as the"ordinary" RRC’s. One addition howeveris the possibility to use a cable control.This provides an extra failsafe againstshutdown if a fault occurs in one if theother types of communication.

Both systems can be delivered with simplex or duplex communication. Theduplex communication option allows theoperator to receive messages (alarmmessages, status indications etc.)through led’s, control display, indicatorinstruments, etc.

Additionally, the base units can be delivered with a serial interface for themost common bus standards on markettoday. On request, they can be deliveredwithout explosion proof and increasedsafety encapsulation if this is deemednot necessary. The battery used in theterminal is intrinsically safe. As a conse-quence the exchanging of the batterycan be done in an explosive area.

Typical applications for these radio remotecontrols are offshore oil and gas equipment, mining applications andmaritime cranes and winches.

The MC 3000Ex isthe first everexplosion proofRRC to obtain a fullATEX approval.

Industrial ControllersGessmann standard range of industrialcontrollers are used in many differenttypes of crane applications, mobileelectro-hydraulic applications, shipcontrollers and radio remotecontrollers. The modular designenables the switching device to beused universally. All controllers areresistant to oil, maritime climate, ozoneand UV radiation.

Crane Control UnitsOperators’ chairs with equipment boxesare manufactured for many differentapplications and are in operation allaround the world. The modular designallows combinations of specific features,seats and other adjustments inaccordance with the customer’srequirements.

Cavotec Gantrex is specialised in thedesign, development andmanufacture of a complete range ofproducts related to rail fasteningsystems for both overhead and groundsupported cranes. Additionally, thecompany offers a wide range of railprofiles and thermite and flash-buttwelding services.

Cavotec Gantrex has 30 years ofexperience in supplying products tothe energy and offshore sector andis supported by an experiencedengineering and installation group.

The Cavotec Gantrex products aredistributed by the Cavotec Group inthe following countries: Australasia,North and South America, SouthAfrica, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

The Cavotec Gantrex soft-mountingcrane rail fastening system is the provensolution for any crane runway problem.A complete range of weldable andboltable clips is available for all railsizes. In addition, Cavotec Gantrexprovides both steel-reinforcedcontinuous rail pad and moldedcrowned pad for intermittent-supported applications. The soft-mounting system ensures the longevityof the crane, wheels and rail support.
