Kolbe Foundation

Kolbe saves $60,000 by switching bulbsThe Reporter Newspaper June 5, 2015

The Kolbe Foundation, which manages the Belize Central Prison, expects to save close to $60,000 a year ($5,000 a month) in electricity bills by switching to a new, energy-efficient lighting system on its compound.

Chief Executive Officer at Kolbe, Virgil Murillo, told The Reporter this week that before the switchover, the prison’s electricity bill averaged around $8,000 a month, using 26 of the standard 1500 watt halogen lights to illuminate the yard and the outer layout of the facility.

Murrillo explained that the new lighting provides adequate illumination across the compound to allow the facility to carry out its job of keeping Belize’s most dangerous men, women and youths confined. The savings in the electricity bill was the determining factor in purchasing the light, he said.

Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, Belize City

Jennell’s Truck Stop, Belize City

In May 2014, KHMH became the first public entity to make a sound move toward energy efficient lighting in Belize. Having completed a new parking lot, the national hospital installed 40W induction lamps in place of the usual 100W sodium lamps whose bulbs last one fifth of the lifespan offered by induction lights. Backed by a 5 year warranty, KHMH's Amko Solara lamps will benefit the hospital-visiting public for years to come while providing much needed savings. The hospitalhas now lighted its main entrance area with 4 Amko Solara Roadway Models (R14), with optional dimmable generators enhancing luminaire's energy saving feature.

Recently-built 'Jennell’s Truck Stop' (Service Station) has started out on the green path with Amko Solara Induction Lighting. Implementation of just four 80W high bay luminaires has provided wide critical coverage and rendered energy savings of at least 40% (compared to standard canopy lights).

Known for its representation of one of the world's leading motor companies, Toyota, Belize Diesel & Equipment this year raised the bar by adopting Amko Solara Induction Lighting in its showroom. Replacing 100W lamps with AF-S03 35W garage Luminaires the dealership made a noteworthy energy-saving and environmentally friendly decision. The high color rendering index (which shows in the form of crisp white lighting) provides excellent illumination for display which the marquee motor brand deserves.

Popular, downtown women’s shoe retailer Dibary ‘lights up’ its expanded retail floor with our energy efficient AF-N10 indoor models. Doing the work of 80 - 100 watt lamps, our 10 Amko Solara 40W models will cut the energy bill for this space by at least half.

Our indoor 100W AF-S07 induction model is stacked against current 150W MV lamps at the PGIA. Providing adequate and comparable illumination, our induction model cuts the user cost here by 33%.
