ENERGY IN SOCIETY
This unit is concerned with the importance of energy resources and energy use in
the development of the society as a whole. Students should be able appreciate local
resources and practice proper utilization of energy for sustainability.
Competencies
At the end of the unit, students should be able to:
1. Explain the role of energy in the development of human society from the industrial age to the knowledge-based society.
2. Discuss examples of the interaction among energy, technology and society [e.g. effects of energy in the environment, economic growth and energy demand; energy resources and energy crisis, etc.]
3. Infer that the total mass-energy in the universe is constant.

Setting the Learning
Students will be able to independently use their learning to...
Realize that Pangasinan’s rich culture can be utilized to interrelate the concepts of
Physics, Technology, Energy and Society.
Recognize that local practices and traditions can be used to explore the concepts of
science such as scientific laws, scientific theories, scientific method, and
measurement.
Distinguish local traditions that are able to enhance sustainability of energy
resources.
Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of the...
Interrelation of Physics, Technology and Society can be deduced from the different
concepts of science such as:
o problem solving and scientific method
o scientific theories and laws
o scientific method
o measurement
Sustainability of energy resources is depedent on culture and tradition of the people.
Finiteness and constancy of energy in the universe.
Goals
4
Skills enhanced in this module
Science Inquiry Skills Manipulative Skills
Through
making qualitative and quantitative observations
drawing inferences from observations organizing and tabulating data comparing and contrasting scientific laws
and theories tracing the steps of the scientific method stating a generalization based on
observations or data which are consistent in a number of trials
interconnecting or interrelating the concepts of energy, physics, society and technology
observing proper behavior to prevent accidents and errors when trying out or testing
using the correct techniques in using the senses during observation.
using the correct technique in making measurements
establishing proper rapport during interview
constructing an improvised equipment
Key Questions
Key Questions
How can Pangasinan’s 4 B’s (Bangus, Bagoong, Beaches and Bocayo) define the
interrelation of Physics, Society, Energy and Technology?
How do you distinguish scientific laws and theories using common and
traditional beliefs and practices of Pangasinenses?
How can you promote sustainability of energy through sustainability of the rich
Pangasinan culture?
5
Assessing Learning
Performance Assessment
Title: SIP going Local
Goal
Make meaning on the idea that Pangasinan’s culture, traditions and
practices can help explore the interconnectedness of Physics,
Technology, Energy and Society.
Promote the concept of energy sustainability through sustainability of
culture and practices
Role Researchers and amateur scientists
Audience Fellow researchers, teacher-facilitator and invited evaluators
Situation
Your group’s objective is to come up with mini science project (Science Investigatory Project) to help sustain a particular B (Bagoogn, Bangus,Beaches, Bocayo) of Pangasinan. The plan should be technology and culture based.
Product/Performance SIP (Science Investigatory Project)proposal focused on the
sustainability of the culture and products of Pangasinan. Simple try out of the project proposal.
