Preliminary 3rd party energy surveys $200,000 Primary use for community colleges The current USI staff considered this level of funding appropriate so

that we could bring the community colleges up to speed rapidly. USI staff in coordination with SCO shall transition this activity in house

to the greatest extent practical. Funding allocated to this activity shall decrease accordingly in future years.

Detailed system specific surveys $84,000 Will include detailed assessments of chillers, boilers, HVAC systems,

lighting, etc.) Training USI staff classes (audit training, etc.) $5,000 Technical workshops for USI partners $40,000 EMD classes $57,324 Strategic energy plan workshops $96,000 Advanced technology seminars $9,000 ASHRAE training for stakeholders per S668 $55,000

M&V as required to validate project estimated savings $50,000

light-emitting diode (LED) exit signs replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent lamp (CFL)

bulbs; 0.5 GPM aerators 1.5 GPM shower heads the installation of occupancy or optical sensors, where appropriate. The Small Building Program supports smaller scale energy efficiency

initiatives in buildings under 20,000 GSF and greater than 1500 GSF. Funding is capped at $15,000 per project.

The focus of this initiative will be small building retrofits, with elements of the retrofit including, but not limited to: basic weatherization heating and air conditioning analysis, optimization and repair lighting retrofits, such as switching T-12 to T-8 or T-5

““The American College and University The American College and University

Presidents Climate CommitmentPresidents Climate Commitment”

The American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment is a high-visibility effort to make campusesmore sustainable and address global warming by garnering institutional commitments to reduce and ultimately neutralize greenhouse gas emissions on campus. The effort is modeled after the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement.

Page 13: Energy and the Environment The Role of CERT at NC A&T Dr. H. Singh, Professor and Director Robert Powell, Asst. Professor and Asst. Director Center for

The American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment

• Completing an emissions inventory • Within two years, setting a target date and

interim milestones for becoming climate neutral. • Taking immediate steps to reduce greenhouse

gas emissions by choosing from a list of short-term actions.

• Integrating sustainability into the curriculum and making it part of the educational experience.

• Making the action plan, inventory and progress reports publicly available.

OTHER UNIVERSITY INITIATIVES

• UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA– Incorporate the principles of energy efficiency and

sustainability into all capital projects, renovation projects, and operations and maintenance.

– Minimize the use of nonrenewable energy sources– Incorporate alternative means of transportation

to/from and within campus– Track report and minimize greenhouse gas emissions
