Al-Rushaid emphasized that the University has availed itself of the expertise of its specialists and the assistance of international experts to contribute to the achievement of this goal. “We today became more capable of expanding projects and more transparent in dealing with different issues; but even more important is the fact that our national staff undertook to supervise and take active part in works under way in the field” he said. While expressing gratitude towards the national concerned establishments which have proved their efficacy in collective work, Al-Rushaid said that KOC undertook to rehabilitate the oil installations that were exposed to destruction and fires. For this purpose, he said, KOC has decided to join hands with the Central Committee for the Remediation of the Environment and to shoulder the responsibility of restoring the oil lakes by remediating roughly 60 million cubic meters of polluted soil, in addition to the oil-damped trenches in the northern part of the country. The C&MD went on to say that the total amount that was allocated for the remediation of the environment projects and extracted from the Environmental Compensation provided by the UN exceeds US$ 3 billion, apart from the works performed by the Company on its own expenses. He added that the Central Committee In-Charge of Supervising the Environment Remediation Projects has formed joint national teams to deal with urgent issues, such as the remnants of war, the forestation of remediated areas, and the management and preservation of national reserves. The Grand Finale Contest for the “KOC eBEAMER” Title

The Team has concluded its series of contests for the KOC eBEAMER title with a Grand Finale event held at the Hilton Mangaf Hotel and attended by the C&MD, Sami Al-Rushaid, the Company’s top management, and a multitude of employees representing all KOC Directorates.Taking part in the Grand Finale were the seven winners from each of the Directorates. After dominating the competition from the outset, the KOC eBEAMER title went to Abdul-Mubin Abdul-Ghafoor from the Drilling & Work-over Technical Services Team II, Technical Support Group, Exploration and Development Directorate. In addition, a number of audience members won gifts upon correctly answering general knowledge questions. During the ceremony, all those who contributed to the achievement of the am-bitious project aimed at developing commercial processes, enhancing staff productivity and cutting the cost and time of repairing equipment in the field, were honored.

The attendees also saluted the genuine efforts exerted by eBEAMS Project Manager, Wadha Al-Akrooka, for her contribution in making the project a suc-cessful reality. Al-Rushaid then officially announced the launch of the new product, which will become effective throughout all the Company’s Directorates. In a speech marking the conclusion of the event, the Deputy Chairman and DMD for Planning and Gas, Mohammed Husain, thanked the organizers of the eBEAMS Project and called upon all staff to implement it, as an optimal means of saving time, money and efforts according to the 2030 Strategy. “The real challenge currently facing the Company staff lies in speeding-up the application of the eBEAMS product until the percentage of those adopting it reaches 100 %”, Husain said.

A delegation representing the Society of Gas Producers (SGP), GCC Chapter, recently visited KOC in order to exchange points of view regarding the SGP regular meeting, due to be hosted by the State of Kuwait under the patronage of KOC’s C&MD, Sami Al-Rushaid, on May 4, 2011.Al-Rushaid called for the evaluation of the positive results that were obtained during the previous conferences and to get the participating companies acquainted with these results. He also stressed the need to adopt the latest technologies as soon as possible due to their importance in the preservation of the environment and the achievement of the highest economic revenues. During his meeting with the visiting delegation, Al-Rushaid underlined the importance of taking advantage of the final outcome of the forthcoming conference. The Team Leader of the Water Handling Group (West Kuwait), Salman Al-Qabandi, delivered a presentation themed “Water Handling and Management of West Kuwait Fields” to the students of the Petroleum Engineering Section of the Engineering & Petroleum School (EPS) of Kuwait University. The event came within the framework of the cooperative relations between KOC and EPS, and in response to the invitation by the Director of the Petroleum Research Center, Dr. Eisa Al-Safran. Al-Qabandi’s lecture comprised a detailed explanation of the technology and the

HR Group Honors Al-Kharji and Al-Ajmi

The Human Resources Group organized a ceremony to honor Compensations Team Leader, Nabil Al-Kharji, and Human Resources Senior Controller, Nouriyah Al-Ajmi, on the occasion of their retirement.The ceremony was attended by DMD for Administrative & Financial Affairs, Khaled Al-Khamis, the Manager of the Human Resources Group, Sami Al-Juheim, and a number of HR Group employees.

In a speech delivered on the occasion, Al-Khamis praised the services rendered by the honorees during their work for the Company (18 years for Al-Kharji and 22 years for Al-Ajmi) wishing them all the best in their retired life.Al-Juheim, in his speech, recalled the honorees’eagerness to excel in their tasks and their commitment to the team-work spirit. Al-Kharji and Al-Ajmi were presented with commemorative plaques.

The Community of Project Management, headed by DC and DMD, Mohammed Husain, hosted an event at the Hubara Center in conjunction with the local chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI), led by Hashim Al-Refaie, Chairman of the Oil Development Company (ODC). Guest speaker of the evening was world-renowned project manager, Jack Duggal, who presented “PMO Best Practices”.Introduced by Wael Al-Jassem, Senior Engineer Project Control – KNPC, Duggal spoke on the best practices when deciding whether or not to establish and run a project management office. PMOs are hot! was the start to the presentation and the discussion as to whether or not a company needs a PMO, and if so, should there be one centralized PMO or several de-centralized PMOs which communicate with each other.

He then explained the background of a PMO and why it is needed, its purpose, a common framework, and five secrets for the successful next generation PMO. The five secrets include:

Naz Gazi Receives Prestigious SPE AwardSenior Consultant, Naz Gazi, from Field Development (S&E Kuwait), received the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ prestigious “SPE Regional Service Award” for 2010. The award ceremony was held in the Gulf Hotel in Bahrain, and was attended by about 300 oil industry guests. The award was given by SPE President, Alain Labastie, of Total France, and SPE Middle East, North Africa and India Director & DMD (NK), Hosnia Hashim.This award acknowledges exceptional contributions to SPE and recognizes singular devotion of time and effort to the programs and development of technical expertise. Gazi has been working in the oil industry for over 35 years and has been involved in SPE during this time. This award reflects and recognizes his many contributions in advancing SPE programs and for the valuable services, professionalism, dedication, and commitment to many SPE sections world-wide. He served SPE in various capacities from Committee Chairman, Program Chairman, Treasurer, Director, Key Note Speaker, SPE Distinguished Lecturer, Continuing Education Programs, Co-Chairman, and Coordinator for a number of SPE ATWs. In addition, he has authored and co-authored over 30 papers. Ahmadi Hospital Maintenance Team Conducts Routine Refresher Course on Permit to Work

As per KPC’s recommendation on fatal incident investigations, the AHM team conducted a refresher course on PTW for authorized personnel of the ASG in order to refresh and update them. A large audience of KOC personnel attended

and benefited from the course. Safety Engineer, Arun Kumar, who conducted the course, highlighted the importance of PTW on the daily activities of ASG, and requested all participants to abide by PTW in their daily work.

In Coordination with the Blood BankA Blood Donation Campaign at Ahmadi Hospital

C&MD, Sami Al-Rushaid, patronized the launching ceremony of the Blood Donation Annual Campaign. The Campaign was inaugurated by the Acting Director of the Ahmadi Hospital, Dr. Ghassan Zein. Members of the medical staff and hospital employees took part in the ceremony. In a speech he delivered on the occasion, Dr. Zein reiterated that blood donation was a noble humanitarian act, especially given that the donor rarely even knows the recipient. Donating blood is an act that also makes

the donor more self-confident, knowing that they are giving to a person in need.The annual campaign was organized, as usual, in coordination with the Blood Bank.The Head of the Medical Laboratories Section of the Ahmadi Hospital, Shaker Al-Motawa, commented on blood donation, proudly saying that the hospital won first place in this activity at the State of Kuwait level.

Presentation on Breast Cancer (SE) Kuwait

Motor Bike Training to Ensure Safety

In coordination with the Ahmadi Hospital, the HSE (SEK) organized a presentation on breast cancer for the female employees within the Directorate. Dr. Abdulreza Dashti made the presentation in which he elaborated on the causes and symp-toms of the disease. For her part, Samar Al-Awadhi, Senior Physical Therapist, explained the approach for examination.

As part of KOC’s contribution to community motorcycle safety, courses for inter-

mediate to advanced riders are being held at the Unity Center parking, on selected

Saturdays in December, January and February.

The courses are a combination of theory and practical exercises, and all material

is based on the US “Motorcycle Safety Foundation” knowledge. Instruction is con-

ducted by experienced KOC riders.

Two KOC Employees Honored by DeGolyer and MacNaughton

On the sidelines of a workshop that was organized by the Reservoir Manage-ment Team in collaboration with the American consultancy firm DeGolyer & MacNaughton, two employees from the Field Development Group (NK) were honored after successfully completing a 6-month long on-the-job training course with the US based firm. The honorees were:Basel al-OtaibiNoha SultanThe event was attended by the TL (Reservoir Management), Essa Al-Maraghi; TL (Reservoir Studies (NK), Badr Al-Saad; along with a number of technical staff within the Field Development Group (NK) and the Reservoir Management Team. This comes in line with the Company’s efforts to increase the competency of its employees in order to achieve the desired strategic goals.

The Field Development Group (SEK) held a farewell ceremony for Engineer Feras Al-Ruhaiman, who is ending his service at KOC in order to pursue higher studies.The TL Field Development (EK), Jamal Al-Homoud, delivered a speech in which he commended the efforts of the honoree, and wished him all the best in his academic pursuits.For his part, Al-Ruhaimani expressed gratitude for the honor, while hailing the spirit of cooperation and support that he has received from all during his time at KOC.

The Community Services Group (ASG) announced that it is still receiving applications from those willing to partake in the annual garden competition. Prospective contestants are kindly requested to contact 23984170 or 66881 to get further information. All forms must be handed in no later than Sunday, February 20th, 2011.Panelists are expected to conduct field visits on Friday and Saturday the 11th and 12th of March, 2011, in order to inspect the gardens of the contestants.

The Ahmadi Services Group has announced plans to organize Omra for KOC employees and their families during the period from the 15th to 19th of February. Cost of the trip is KD171/employee.Those wishing to take part are kindly requested to fill out a special form at the Passport and Travel Section. Registration is due to commence effective Sunday, January 23rd until Thursday February 3rd, 2011.
