• read and discuss a biography of Alessandro Volta

• discuss the ways scientists develop and change their ideas

• represent your ideas about a biography

Review your observation table from last week and discuss.

Prepare your Science Journal Keynote for today’s work.

Create a slide titled, Week 2: Alessandro Volta -

Battery Maker

Let’s look at various types of batteries.

• Identify difference in sizes and labelled voltages?

• What does ‘V’ or Volts represent.

• Do you know about the history of the battery?

In 10mins create a small paragraph to respond to these statements

Biography

Biography • What features could we find in this or any biography?

• Who usually writes such texts?

• What evidence does the author have to show that this is a true representation of the person’s life?

• Why are such texts written?

• Why has the author used a cartoon for this biography?

• Does this cartoon make the biography more or less believable?

Now, add to today’s slide in your Science Journal Keynote.

What does the word Volt mean in reference to the text?

Discuss Scientists’ changing ideas

• Why did the two scientists disagree?

• What was the first thing Volta did when he disagreed with Galvani? Why?

• Did either of them change their ideas? Did they change other people’s ideas?

• What could have happened if Volta agreed with Galvani?

In your science groups

Activity one: Use the cartoon to create a chronological list of

Alessandro Volta’s life. Maximise online resources to

support your list.

Activity two: Script and then perform a role play (or film on your iPad).

One group member will be Volta, the others are

interviewers. Include both closed and open

questions.

Activity three: Create a list of solid FOR and AGAINST arguments. i.e Volta versus Galvani. Who is correct and why? Add

supportive evidence to your arguments where possible.
