Foundation’s Mission & Background

-  The foundation is a nonprofit organization focused on fighting against the devastating effects of endometriosis, a disease that affects millions of women and adolescent girls.

-  Established in 2008 by actress, model, designer and award winning author, Padma Lakshmi and Tamer Seckin, MD, a leading endometriosis specialist and gynecologic surgeon.

Why Support the EFA?

- 1 in 10 women are afflicted with endometriosis (an estimated 176 million women and girls globally).

- The quality of life of those with endometriosis is greatly impacted and significantly diminished by the disease causing severe pelvic pain, infertility and myriad of physical, emotional, economic and work related issues.

- The disease imposes a staggering financial burden on society with related costs near $22 billion annually.

- The disease is also linked to other heath concerns, such as autoimmune disease, fibroids, adenomyosis, interstitial cystitis and certain malignancies.

- Qualitative studies indicate a large number of women and girls with endometriosis remain under-diagnosed, ineffectively treated and isolated as a result of this “taboo” disease.
