ENDEAVOR HALL NEWSLETTER
A School for Young Writers
November 2019
Principal’s Message
As we approach what has quickly become my favorite American Holiday, I wanted to express my gratitude and thanks to our amazing School Family. I am thankful that I get to work with wonderful families, students, and faculty at Endeavor Hall. I am thankful for the kind and respectful students who greet us at the door each morning. I have grown to love the community that is Endeavor Hall. Each day I am privileged to work with students who are resilient, hardworking, and who are mindful of their friends around them.
As a school we have felt a tremendous support from each one of you. Teachers were welcomed into many of your homes, and you came out in record numbers to our Parent Teacher Conferences. In fact, we had 80% of our families come into the school to visit with teachers over the few days of Fall Conferences. I invite you to continue to be a part of all the good that happens at Endeavor Hall. We cannot do what we do without you.
I also want to express my gratitude to our wonderful teachers. You may never know the hours that they spend preparing, planning, grading, collecting and analyzing data, going to meetings, going to school, serving on committees, staying late, emailing, calling, doing lunch and recess duties … and teaching! (the list could go on), all while they juggle their own lives and families. Thank you for all you do to teach, love, guide and care for the incredible students we get to call Endeavor Hall Eagles. Thank you, Endeavor Hall Family, for all you do to make this a great place to be. Simon Raubenheimer Principal
SPECIAL EDUCATION
Kama Maendl (Special Education Director)
I believe that every child can learn, and as the Special Education Director
here at Endeavor Hall, I try to have that philosophy lived out through our
program. I'm truly blessed to work with a staff that has the same philosophy
and work tirelessly to see that each student receives the guidance and help
they need to meet their fullest potential. Being a former student who
participated in special education, I understand that all students learn
differently and we strive to provide many different formats and present
information in ways that each student can learn. BIO: I am happily married
to Gene Maendl for 25 years and we have four beautiful children James 22, Janette 19, Jaruwat
18, and Jeshua 17. As a family we love to travel and spend time together making memories with
lots of laughter and joy.
Fatima Perkins (Special Education Teacher)
Hi there!!! My name is Fatima Perkins; I have two children who are my life. I
have two different citizenships; I am Brazilian and American. I have been
working in the Sped Department K-1st grades at Endeavor Hall Charter
School since 2017. I just adore my students and yes I spoil all of them!!! I
love it so much that I enrolled in college to receive my degree in Special
Education. I have a Law degree in Brazil and I am also taking some classes to
get ready for the Bar Exam here in America. If I have some free time (which
is very rare) I like Ghost hunting with the Paranormal group that I am part of!
Julie Robbins (Special Education Teacher)
I was born in Weslaco, Texas, and moved to California until I was 11. We
then moved to Utah and I have lived here ever since. I graduated from Snow
College with an AS degree with a minor in art. I have worked at Hill Field, the
Defense Depot of Ogden (19 yrs.), as a crossing guard, the IRS (9 yrs.), the
Standard Examiner and drove their 13 ton trucks (15 yrs.), substitute taught,
and because I can do American Sign Language, I worked at a Severe Unit. I
went back to school and graduated with a dual Bachelor’s degree in Special
and Elementary Education. I started as para at Endeavor Hall. Mr.
Raubenheimer challenged me to get my teaching license, so I took my tests and passed. I work
with the most amazing staff and wonderful students at Endeavor Hall. I love it here! I have seven
children and I'm proud that my daughter, Lysette Odekirk, works here, too. I hope that I will stay
until the day I need to retire. Ya'll have my heart!
Spanish
Travis Beck (ESL & Spanish Teacher)
¡Hola y mucho gusto! I am happy to be in my 5th year as part of the
Endeavor Hall community. I grew up in Wyoming and Wisconsin, but I have
also lived in Ecuador, Florida, Las Vegas, and now Utah. My family is:
Natalie (wife), Bailey (daughter-2), and Owen (son-1). Some of our favorite
things to do are, playing at the park, swimming, and visiting cousins and
grandparents. My kids love to watch “Coco”, so I have probably seen that
movie at least 1,000 times! Before I became a teacher, I had many different
jobs: ice cream server, strawberry farmer, cheese factory worker, library
assistant, Disney World custodian, bank teller, Utah Jazz prize team, Salt
Lake Bees train conductor, and restaurant server. In my free time, I like to go to concerts, cook,
and watch sports. I am a die-hard fan of the Real Salt Lake, Wisconsin Badgers, and Green Bay
Packers. GO PACK GO!

Clase de Español—Quarter 1 Recap
Nuevo y divertido. I use these two words to describe how the Endeavor Hall Spanish class was
during the first quarter. Nuevo (new) because this is the first time Endeavor Hall has offered
Spanish as a “specials” class. Divertido (fun) because the we have had a lot of fun learning
about Spanish language and culture. The students started out the year by
learning the question, ¿Cómo te llamas? and how to answer, me
llamo__________. The students drew self-portraits and practiced asking
each other ¿Cómo te llamas? The students have also learned the question,
¿Como estas? and several ways to answer. They created Manos de Hola y
Adiós. These were hands that the students traced, decorated, cut-out, and
then wrote phrases and words on for practicing the new language. This first
quarter, we also explored the holiday El día de los muertos. We talked
about the meaning and traditions and the students made Calaveras. We
displayed these “sugar skulls” in the hallways during the week of Halloween and Día de los
Muertos.

Friday, October 25th, was our 1st Annual Chili Cook Off among the faculty at Endeavor Hall. This was a
way for teachers to come together in a
friendly competition to see who prepares the
best chili! There were 9 different types of
chili for teachers to choose from. We had
quite the assortment that were amazing!
While each chili had its own unique flavors
and spices, after the votes were tallied, our
very own Chef of Endeavor Hall Juana
Andrade’s chili won the challenge!
Congratulations to our amazing cook, Juana
always adds her own spice of love and
kindness in every dish! Thanks to all of the
staff who also made the party a hit by bringing
so many other items, such as, drinks, desserts,
salad, cornbread, cheese, etc.
